Overview of the Moon

Fly Me to the Moon
And let me Play among the stars
Let me see what life is like on Jupiter and Mars
Frank Sinatra

When the Moon Hits Your Eye
Like a Big Pizza Pie
That’s Amore
Dean Martin

How many songs have been written about the Moon? As I sit here by the Light of the Silvery Moon, I can think of plenty. We humans seem to have always been fascinated by the Moon and this makes sense. Imagine looking up into the sky lo those many eons ago. Yes, there were many bright objects that we now know are stars, but there was one object that was brighter than all the rest when we saw her. And she would change shape too! Sometimes she disappeared completely; sometimes we just saw a small portion of her; other times she was a bright orb in our sky. You can understand our fascination with the Earth’s partner.

Here are some facts about Earth’s satellite. A lunar month takes 29 days, 12 hours and 44 minutes. In this time, the Moon goes from one New Moon to another. As well, it takes the Moon 27 days, 7 hours and 43 minutes to go through all the constellations of the zodiac. The Moon has four phases: new, first quarter, full and last quarter. Like the Earth, half of the Moon is always in sunlight and half is in darkness. We only see one side of the Moon from Earth which is why we have the phenomenon of a new Moon. The Moon has no light of its own. It reflects light. When the Moon goes from New to Full, it is said to be waxing. When it goes from Full to New, it is said to be waning. [1]

The Moon is considered a feminine planet (well actually THE Mother Load feminine planet) and rules the sign of Cancer. The Moon is exalted in Taurus, in detriment in Capricorn and in her fall in Scorpio. Planets which reside in the signs of their rulership or exaltation, have an easy time acting like themselves. Planets which reside in the signs of their detriment or fall have a hard time expressing their true nature. We have known the Moon by many names throughout human history, including Diana, Isis, Persephone and Levanah in the Kabbala. The Moon’s astrological glyph is a crescent. This symbol represents a container which holds the treasures of your soul. It is the container where we can experience existence. The Moon rules the stomach and the breasts. It is considered fruitful and is tied to reproduction and your nuturing ability.

The Moon in your horoscope is a very important part of your makeup. Along with your Sun and Ascendant, it finishes the trilogy that describes your basic qualities. If you’ve ever felt like your Sun Sign doesn’t describe you, take a look at the explanation for your Moon. As the Sun is the masculine, energy principle, the Moon is the feminine, receptive principle. The Sun is Yang, the Moon is Yin. The Moon is considered to reflect the true character of your soul.

Rob Hand (2) says that the moon has two archetypes: one is the container or medium by which an energy can manifest; the other is the source or origin of all things. Since we see the Moon at night, she represents the subconscious…those things that are hidden. The Sun burns brightly giving us light by day. The Moon lights the way when the Sun is no longer visible. She represents dreams, the inner life, habits, instinct and intuition.

In your chart, the Moon will represent your imagination and receptive side as well as your maternal instincts and fertility. The Moon will represent your Mother and other women in your life. In a man’s chart it will represent close relationships with women. The Moon is linked to imagination and, in ancient astrology she ruled the intellect and morality of the individual. Contrary to popular belief, it was the Moon who indicated your intellectual abilities, not Mercury. Mercury is just the messenger. The Moon is the mind. In these modern times, many astrologers think Mercury rules the left brain and the Moon rules the right brain. The great astrologer, William Lilly thought that if the Moon is stronger than Mercury, the person has a greater sense of vision (think artist, performer). If Mercury is stronger than the Moon the person has a greater sense of reason (think engineer, computer programmer).

Noel Tyl says in his book Synthesis and Counseling in Astrology, that the Moon in your birth chart indicates your reigning need. You will note that under each Moon sign I have a sentence that indicates this need. This is taken from the above book. [3]

Let’s find out what your Moon says about you. I'll post a few signs every day so you can digest them. If you know the Moon signs of those close to you, your employers, friends, etc., you can learn more about them by reading their natal Moon sign!

Remember as you read the above and your Moon by Sign and House placement, that all this is colored by the rest of your chart, including the aspects other planets make to your Moon. I can only give you a general description or overview of the qualities of the Moon in each sign or house. In the end, it is by pulling together the totality of your chart, that you get the full picture!

Let's try this again so we can keep it under the same heading

Moon in Aries [Fire, Cardinal]
Need to be considered IMPORTANT… Number 1

EMOTIONIAL KEYWORDS: Power, Importance, Leadership, Playful, Hasty, Emotionally Assertive, Individualistic, Courageous, Reckless, Initiative

I’ll try to type fast for all you Moon in Aries people, so I can keep your attention! People with their Moon in Aries are considered playful and enthusiastic. You can be almost childlike in your enthusiasm for anything new and can keep your more stable Moon friends hopping! Your emotional reactions are fast and instinctive. You tend to be emotionally impulsive and rarely, if ever, look before you leap. This may cause emotional strife and hurt, as well as physical accidents. When you get angry, you don’t hold anything back. However, once your emotional or physical outburst is over, you forget all about it and will invite your opponent out for a drink. Moon in Aries doesn’t hold a grudge. Your opponent, however, may not recover from your sarcastic remarks or outburst nearly as fast as you will.

You tend to love competition, contests, sports and people who can hold their own in your presence. You are direct and honest. You don’t like secrecy and you expect this same honesty from others in your life. Both sexes with the Moon in Aries are energetic, forceful, independent, courageous and rarely let the grass grow under their feet. You love the unexpected. You tend to get bored with people, partners or situations and then go looking for a new adventure. You could have been raised in a military family or a structured organization. More than likely your parents encouraged you to play sports or be involved in physical activity and nurtured your independence.

Take some time to smell the roses, my Moon in Aries friend. Remember that many of us can be easily hurt by your impulsive and sometimes harsh words. And every now and then, finish what you start. It builds character!

Moon in Taurus (Exalted) [Earth, Fixed]
Needs to maintain security and keep things as they are.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Material Security, Emotionally Steady, Persistence, Steadfast, Stable, Easy-going, Even Tempered Practical, Materialistic, Predictable, Loyal

The Moon is strong in this sign because she is in her exaltation! She is like an honored guest, being treated like the Queen, welcome in this home. People with their Moon in Taurus have an almost overwhelming need to be emotionally secure. You are strongly tied to the material plane. What do you need to be emotionally secure? You need financial and material security. In fact, your emotional security is tied directly into your financial security. You may exhibit a great deal of common sense when dealing with your financial and domestic affairs and you pursue what you want in a purposeful fashion. Once you get it, you hang onto it. This Moon sign can attract wealth and the good things in life. You truly appreciate the finer things in all areas. You enjoy eating, drinking and making love. Music soothes the savage Moon in Taurus beast. You are charming and love beauty in all its forms.

Your emotions are usually strong, steady and calm. You take emotional commitment very seriously and are devoted and persistent. Some might say you are stubborn when it comes to your emotions. You must guard against jealousy and possessiveness. Also be aware of your tendency to dictate what others should feel. You don’t often get angry, but when you do, WATCH OUT. You blow up like a nuclear explosion (that old bull in the china shop syndrome). You desire a committed relationship in a stable environment. You are probably a very good cook and have a green thumb. If you are able, you probably have some kind of garden which thrives under your influence. It is possible that you came from a comfortable home in a stable environment, where your needs were taken care of. There are some instances, however where Moon in Taurus people came from a home where one or both of your parents were born in a disadvantaged situation and worked hard to get what they had, so they instilled in you the need to be financially secure.

Repeat after me, my Moon in Taurus friends…………Change is the only constant! Remember, some of us aren’t as able to keep our emotions in check and have to let them out. Now go out and plant some flowers so the rest of us can appreciate their beauty.

Moon in Gemini [Air, Mutable]
Needs to be bright, clever and stimulating

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Sociable, Communicative, Curious, Vacillating, Quick-witted, Talkative, Resourceful, Superficial, Rational, Impatient, Informed, Logical

You know -- I was going to write about people with the Moon in Gemini, but then I thought, “Why bother? They can say sooooo much more than I ever could!” Oh well, I’ll give it a try anyway. People born with their Moon in Gemini are generally easy-going and good natured. Your emotions can run the gamut from one minute to the next. If you’re unhappy, you rarely stay that way very long. You are sociable and probably have a large circle of friends who enjoy your scintillating conversation. Moon in Gemini people love communication, be it in person, writing, on the computer or the phone. You are never at a loss for words and you love debate and controversy. This is true about your emotional nature as well. You would prefer to talk about and rationalize your emotions rather than feel them! You have a tendency to be nervous and jumpy and it can be hard to know what you are experiencing emotionally as you can flit from one emotion to another. You have been called the emotional Jeckyll and Hyde.

You are infinitely curious, love learning new things and sharing that information with others. Your mind never stops buzzing, but that buzzing can drown out what you are feeling. You may not stick with anything for a long time. You can be fickle with your emotions and with your partners. You are always eager to meet new people and experience different kinds of relationships. Loyalty and faithfulness are not your strong points. You love your freedom and don’t like being restricted by the emotional demands of others. Clingy people need not apply! You have a wonderful sense of humor and are very witty, however, you need to watch your tendency to be sarcastic. You probably displayed your quick learning ability and your cleverness at an early age. Moon in Gemini people most likely had parents who encouraged their intellectual and mental ability but may not have nurtured your emotions as much. Moon in Gemini people are our emotional Peter Pans!

Your task, should you choose to accept it, my Moon in Gemini friend, is to turn off your mind every now and then and really feel your emotions. This will help you know the rest of us better. Ok, that’s enough. Now go back to being your charming, clever, bright self!

Moon in Cancer (In Rulership) [Water, Cardinal]
Needs emotional security in close, personal relationships

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Domestic Security, Sensitive, Intuitive, Irrational, Sentimental, Vulnerable, Moody, Emotional Intensity, Brooding, Psychic, Sympathetic, Instinctive

The Moon is most at home in the sign of Cancer because it rules this sign. People with the Moon in Cancer are usually quite in touch with their emotions, sometimes too much in touch with them. You can sense the emotions of others even before a word has been spoken. You can also sense the mood of any situation you walk into. This ability borders on psychic. Moon in Cancer people have a keen understanding of the emotional makeup of others and are usually quite sympathetic and have the tendency to (s)mother those they care about. Beware of your tendency to emotionally dominate those you love… you know what I mean … that, “I know what’s best for you,” tendency. You usually have very strong ties to your own Mom, your family, your home and your country. Since you were young you have required security in your home and that hasn’t changed. You are faithful and expect the same. You are protective, nurturing and devoted to those you love. You also tend to fret and worry about your family constantly. You protect the beliefs and causes that are important to you.

Moon in Cancer people enjoy taking care of others and are probably good cooks. You could have lots of people stopping by to eat, drink a cup of tea or just talk to you. You may find yourself hosting many of the family parties. People love talking to you because they know you’ll listen and care. You may find yourself standing in a line in a store and all of a sudden, out of the blue, the person behind you starts talking to you about the intimate details of their life! And you know what? You’ll stand there listening, nodding your head and giving them advice! You, yourself, may be very affected by the Moon and your emotions can change hourly. You’ll walk into work happy as a lark and an hour later, someone will say something innocuous to you and you’ll be deeply wounded, going into your emotional shell. You have a tendency to protect yourself and hide your true feelings from others. Moon in Cancer people probably came from a rather traditional family and didn’t move around a lot. Your family told you about your “roots” and considered family ties very important. Your Mom may have been over-protective. Moon in Cancer people are our emotional sponges, absorbing the feelings of all around them.

Well, as one Moon in Cancer person to another, I suggest that you remember to take care of your own needs every now and then. Loosen up that emotional grip on those you love and let them make a few mistakes! We can’t protect them from everything. Sometimes they have to go out into the big, bad world without us! (Long sighhhhhh)

Moon In Leo [Fire, Fixed]
Needs to be admired, appreciated and respected

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Dramatic, Respect, Honor, Proud, Romance, Self-Centered, Dominate, Flattery, Generous, Kind, Noble

I shall now curtsy before I start my description of Moon in Leo. I hesitate to give you any advice because Moon in Leo people already know almost everything and are usually right. Please forgive me as I attempt to shed a little light on your emotional makeup. People with the Moon in Leo have very BIG emotions. You are dramatic and proud. You love attention and expect to be admired and appreciated for all your fine attributes. You are generous and magnanimous to those you love and care about. You can also be quite dominating in a family environment. Your Moon sign gives you a natural air of dignity and nobility. You must watch that tendency to be preachy and a know-it-all. You can come off as self-centered and pompous. But, truly, Moon in Leo people are a class-act and a celebrity in some way. You were born to shine!!!

However, underneath that noble exterior, you do have your own little drama running. Moon in Leo people can actually get stage-fright. While you seem so poised and brave to the rest of us, underneath you might be experiencing quite a bit of anxiety. You sometimes worry that you may lose the respect of others. But then the Sun comes out and you realize that you are the STAR. You put your worries behind you and your optimistic, sunny emotional outlook returns. You are a natural leader and have a knack for attracting people and things into your life which benefit you. You are very romantic and affectionate, showering your emotional generosity on those who are lucky enough to be in your circle. You usually love children, parties, social events and love itself! You are highly susceptible to flattery and need to remember to do a reality check every now and then. Moon in Leo individuals may have come from a home where you received much attention. Your parents probably gave you the feeling that you could accomplish anything and fostered your talents at an early age. You were probably a fun child but may have been spoiled. My pet name for my daughter and my psychic daughter (who both have Moon in Leo), is Princess Leo Moon.

So Prince or Princess Leo Moon, you know we love you. How could we resist? Just remember that we can sometimes actually be right too!

Moon in Virgo [Earth, Mutable]
Needs to be accurate, discerning and exact.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Detached, Aloof, Vulnerable, Professional, Critical, Shy, Efficient, Modest, Helpful, Hard-working, Conscientious, Practical, Reasonable, Wise

I hesitate to call any notice at all to people with their Moon in Virgo. You are rather shy and retiring, not requiring lots of attention for your own needs. Moon in Virgo people prefer working behind the scenes, keeping everything going, making sure every detail is taken care of. Many may consider you unemotional or cold, but this is not correct. The truth is you are quite sensitive and your feelings are hurt easily. To hide this fact you try to give the rest of us the impression that you are aloof and professional. You are your own worst critic and you suspect people will judge you harshly so you keep your emotions under wraps. You show your care and affection by doing things for the people you love, like cleaning up after them, cooking, running errands, repairing things. You enjoy serving others and you have a deep understanding and concern for the welfare of all God’s creatures. You may put your compassion, practicality and efficiency to work in a healing profession. This is your forte…you help the rest of us heal. You are probably into health foods and make sure that those you love have a healthy diet.

Moon in Virgo people are witty, considerate, tolerant and easy to get along with. You care for the rest of us with grace and kindness, always willing to see the good in us. When you let your guard down, you can be sensual, creative and compassionate. Your own emotions fluctuate between believing you are not worthy - to you are the only one worthy! Sometimes you have the tendency to sell yourself short and other times you sell the rest of us short. You tend to be highly principled and expect everyone else to be this way as well. You are inclined to take life and yourself just a bit too seriously and your overly high standards can lead to failure. No one, including you, can live up to them. Remember Moon in Virgo, people need you see your emotional depth. Sometimes a hug is what they need. Moon in Virgo people may have come from an emotionally lacking home environment. Perhaps your parents didn’t give you enough love and touch. Your parents may have imposed strong discipline in your household. You probably were an excellent, organized student and brought home some awards. You were probably very busy in different sports, artistic endeavors and/or volunteer efforts. You are our “fix-it” Moon… the one who wants to make everything right.

Oh my Moon in Virgo friends, you are not going to like what I have to say next but here it goes. You need to learn to RELAX. Try to be just a little rebellious and defiant. Go ahead, try! See, now doesn’t that feel good??? Now, repeat after me, “I couldn’t care less!” All right, I realize I’ve overstepped my bounds now

Moon in Libra [Air, Cardinal]
Needs to be popular, attractive and fair.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Fair, Reasonable, Tranquility, Harmony, Balance, Sociable, Congenial, Shallow, Unsure, Diplomatic, Easily Influenced, Contrary, Relationship Oriented, Charming

I shall try to give equal time to all the traits of people with Moon in Libra. You wouldn’t have it any other way. The nice thing is you’ll probably agree with everything I say just to avoid a fight! Moon in Libra people can be ambitious and lazy at the very same time. Balance, harmony and tranquility are important to you emotionally and in your domestic situation. You hate injustice and may champion the underdog. You can be very logical about your emotions, and can be offended by strong displays of emotions in others. You want to be considered attractive, well-dressed and probably have artistic abilities or tendencies. You are usually sociable and very well liked. You avoid confrontations and arguments and try to keep the peace at all costs. You have the uncanny ability to see both sides of any story or issue. This may sometimes drive your loved ones crazy. They want you to be on their side! But you are ever the diplomat, and besides, you wouldn’t want to make anyone angry at you. Relationships are very important to Moon in Libra people. You are creative, fun to be with, seductive and generally fascinating to those who come to know you. A big problem may be your need to make yourself irresistible to others. Since you are so emotionally adaptable, you can change your moods to suit the person you’re with. But where is the real YOU? That gets lost when you try to please everyone.

Sometimes those that love you feel they’ll never get a straight answer about anything…it takes so long for you to weigh and measure all the different aspects. But you know what? They’ll forgive you anyway because you are so good at turning on the charm and making them feel that they are special. Air signs tend to rationalize their emotions and you are no exception. Moon in Libra people need to watch their tendency to compromise because it allows others to take advantage of you or you wind up sacrificing your own wishes for someone else. In relationships you are usually faithful and conventional. You will do most anything to keep a relationship going, and keep your dissatisfactions inside, but once you’ve made up your mind to leave, you do just that. One thing Moon in Libra people have is courage and plenty of it. You are not afraid of challenge and can be irrepressible. Oh and did I mention that some consider you the best lover of the zodiac? (I knew you’d like that!)

So my Moon in Libra friend, don’t subjugate yourself to others all the time. Remember that your emotions and wishes have just as much right to be acknowledged and fulfilled. Become more secure in yourself and every now and then don’t worry if you step on a few emotional toes. Oh, and every now and then, surprise your loved ones – don’t try to make them see both sides of an emotional issue, tell them you whole-heartedly agree with their feelings!

Moon In Scorpio (Fall) [Water, Fixed]
Needs to be in control, to be looked upon as profound, correct and self-sufficient.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Passionate, Willful, Desire, Possessive, Jealous, Emotional, Sensitive, Ruthless, Perceptive, Intuitive, Obsessive, Intense

The Moon is in her fall in Scorpio. This can be a very tough placement for the Moon and it isn’t easy for Moon in Scorpio people to express their emotions. I hope I don’t give away too much because I know how Moon in Scorpio people like their privacy. Moon in Scorpio people are intensely emotional and highly sensitive. You may hide this from others to protect yourself because you hurt deeply. You can be quite secretive, never revealing the true extent of your emotional depth unless you are certain that you will not be betrayed. You are most likely considered highly sexual and exude a powerful and mesmerizing sexuality. When you do connect with someone, it is not just a sexual experience. You want to connect with them totally, in every way…. emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and sexually. You want to feel that you and your partner are one entity.

Moon in Scorpio people are exceptionally perceptive, possibly psychic and can usually tell if a person is worthy of respect after hearing just one sentence out of their mouths or seeing them the first time. Your instincts are rarely wrong and once someone passes your “trust” test they will earn your support, loyalty and caring. Moon in Scorpio people need to be in control. You can be quite judgmental and may seem very anxious. You worry so much about those you love that you feel like you want to control all the variables to keep them safe. You are deeply intuitive, creative and able to feel others emotions. You want to know the deepest depths of the emotional reservoir of your companions, digging deeper and deeper until you understand them totally. You may experience power struggles with those you love because of your need for control. Your mind is very sharp and not much gets past a Moon in Scorpio person. You love challenge and yet demand stability and security. This can be confusing to the rest of us. If you are betrayed, you can be ruthless and with your insight you know just how to hurt the person who betrayed you. However, you also know how to make those you care about feel protected and loved. Moon in Scorpio children may have had a tough home life when they were young. You may have been subject to a very emotional household or authoritarian parents. You probably had very intense experiences in your youth.

My Moon in Scorpio friend, I know it is hard for you to let us in, but sometimes it’s worth it. Not everyone will disappoint you. You have the ability to see into our deepest thoughts. Once in a while, let us see yours. You may like it

Moon in Sagittarius [Fire, Mutable]
Needs their opinions respected, needs to be right.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Just, Idealistic, Philosophical, Narrow-Minded, Optimistic, Cheerful, Sociable, Superficial, Affectionate, Emotionally Shallow, Scattered, Freedom, Independent, Energetic

I know you’re interested in what I have to say, Mr. or Ms. Sagittarius Moon, and I promise to be fair and impartial if you promise to hold your judgment until I’m finished. People with their Moon in Sagittarius are friendly, gregarious, sociable and can be the life of the party. You have lofty thoughts and high aspirations. Moon in Sagittarius people are considered fun-loving, open-minded, generous and extravagant. You love adventure in all its forms. You have an expansive mind and a passion for learning. If you are not doing something, you feel like you’re wasting time. Many Moon in Sagittarius people will spend a great deal of time traveling. You LOVE to travel. If you can’t travel, you may find yourself intrigued by reading books about foreign lands or watching movies or TV shows about different places. This Moon placement is like the rolling stone that gathers no moss. Generally, you dislike monotony. If you feel trapped, your instinct is to break free. You do not enjoy those who try to tie you down or curb your independence. By the same token, you will you’re your partners or friends the same freedom and independence that you so heartily crave. You may have a very hard time committing to one person emotionally and sexually, but once you do you, you will generally be faithful as long as they understand your need for independence. When you focus your emotions on someone, they can expect the biggest, grandest most affectionate emotional response they’ve ever had. You don’t do anything in a small way.

There is another side to you though (as there are to all mutable Moon signs). Moon in Sagittarius people have strong opinions and you want those opinions to be respected! You have an innate sense of right and wrong. When you become emotionally attached to an issue or idea, you will go to any length to rectify perceived wrongs. Your inherent sense of justice and doing what’s right will make you the champion of the underdog. You just do not want to see people, animals, rocks, plants, minerals, fish (whatever your cause may happen to be) getting a raw deal! You want to right the wrongs!!! You are probably involved in physical activity or sports of some kind and love to test your own strength and courage. You do nothing small, Moon in Sagittarius. Everything is larger than life. Your relationship with your parents was generally good but may have been distant in some way. Your parents probably supported your love of learning many things. They may have come from a foreign country. You most likely did well in some area of school (if not regular academics, then dance, art, music or sports).

So my Moon in Sagittarius friend, did you sit still long enough to read this? If you did, you are probably writing me at this very moment telling me how much I overlooked. And after I read it, I’ll still love you. You’re just too much fun to be around (my husband has Moon in Sagittarius). But wait, there’s a travel show on TV. Oh well, your post can wait until another day!

Moon in Capricorn (Detriment) [Earth, Cardinal]
Needs to make things happen, to administer progress.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Loyal, Devoted, Cold, Serious, Dependable, Defensive, Practical, Responsible, Cautious, Reserved, Austere, Material, Ambitious, Wise, Mature

The Moon is in its detriment in Capricorn (since Capricorn is opposite Cancer, the sign ruled by the Moon). This makes it more difficult for the Moon to act like her true self. Moon in Capricorn people may have difficulty expressing their emotions and can seem cold and unfeeling, but this isn’t true. It’s just your way of hiding your own emotional depths. You may have a hard time relaxing and letting go. You seem to always be practical about your emotions and in control. You are not demonstrative about your feelings. Moon in Capricorn people are strong and self-assured. People probably admire your level-headedness and ability to keep things in perspective. They may be very surprised when you are on a mission, however, because nothing or no one gets in your way! While all the rest of us see you as organized and strong, you may see yourself as weak, careless and insecure. This is why it’s so important for you to keep your emotions under wraps. It hides your own sense of insecurity. And, Moon in Capricorn, stability and security are very important to you, especially in the material realm. You may make lots of money and become a pillar of your community. You tend to have conservative values and a true respect for tradition.

Moon in Capricorn people are devoted and conscious of your responsibilities to your family and loved ones. You will make steady progress in ensuring security for you and your family. Your family will be taken care of, no matter what. They know they can depend on you in every way. Once you commit yourself to someone or something, your loyal emotions will make you “stick it out” until it becomes unbearable. You don’t expect life to be easy or happy and you understand that overcoming adversity is part of the job of establishing a stable life. Others may perceive you as harsh emotionally because you seem to be only interested in organizing your next move to reach your goal. Your strong need to make plans -- to reach your objective, makes you keep your emotions under guard, lest they ambush the march forward. This Moon placement is like a Great Commander – you are happy to delegate but will pull your sleeves up and get right in the middle of the action if things aren’t turning out the way you want them to. It is possible there was some hardship in your childhood. Your parents may have had to scramble to survive and this instilled the need for material security in you. Your parents probably loved you and impressed upon you the need to do well in life. You were most likely considered wise for your years, acting mature early in life.

Oh, my Moon in Capricorn friend, life doesn’t always have to be so serious. Many astrologers say that people with a strong Capricorn influence in their charts are very serious as children and can become more child-like as they get older. I’m sure you’re well on your way to reaching your lifelong goals so take a break and come out to play with the rest of us!

Moon in Aquarius [Air, Fixed]
Needs to be unusual and socially significant.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Intuitive, Impersonal, Freedom, Stubborn, Unpredictable, Socially Conscious, Willful, Detached, Aloof, Loyal, Different, Unusual, Intelligent

People who are born with the Moon in Aquarius have the ability to sympathize with the needs of humanity. You are probably friendly to all you meet in an impersonal way. In personal relationships you may be detached and somewhat aloof. You can feel trapped when you start to get emotionally close and intimate with another person. You consider freedom very important – the freedom to come and go as you please, to associate with whomever you want to and to make your own way. If someone doesn’t like this, you figure that person isn’t worth your time or emotional energy. While you can be one of the most sensual, physically demonstrative and intellectually astute Moon signs, you tend to freeze up when it comes to showing your emotions. You truly aren’t cold, but you won’t jump into an emotional frenzy at the drop of a hat. You tend to question the logic of expressing passions or emotions that you haven’t fully thought through. All of the people with their Moon in Air signs think before they leap when it comes to emotions. When you do decide, however, you can be very forthright in letting the rest of us know how you feel! Moon in Aquarius is the Mr. Spock of Moon signs. Friendship is very important to you and you can be friends with very different kinds of people. Honesty, equality and fairness are what you bring to all your emotional relationships and you expect the same in return. You expect people to take you as you are and you will do the same for them.

Moon in Aquarius people are considered eccentric and this quality attracts many friends and lovers. You enjoy variety and abhor boredom. You are out of the ordinary and probably travel to the beat of a different drummer. You want to be considered unlike any other person who has ever walked the face of the Earth! Your mind is active and highly intelligent. You love stretching your brain which leads you into relationships with all types of people and organizations. You are probably quite intuitive as well, with flashes of brilliance. You are the Non-Conformist Moon sign. Now, don’t let all this talk about your intellectual prowess and logical thinking throw you, Moon in Aquarius. You are also considered one of sexiest Moon signs. With your intelligence, stamina and imagination, you have a way of making sexual encounters interesting…..verrrrrrrrrry interesting! I could tell stories……….oh no, I can’t. It would be unbecoming Your parents probably nurtured your independence at a young age. Your Mom could have been a career woman or involved in causes which kept her busy. Your parents probably encouraged you to do well in school but did not push you into one field or the other. You were probably stubborn as a child and may have had exceptional gifts and talents.

Well, my Moon in Aquarius friend, as the Mother of a son with this Moon placement, I can tell you that you are unique! You love and treat us all with respect and fairness – whether we are the King or the bum on the street! Once in a while jump into the emotional frenzy, just so you can see how the rest of us live! Please remember that we can’t all be like you …. In fact, you wouldn’t have it any other way

Moon in Pisces [Water, Mutable]
Needs to detect the ideal, understand impressions and work with the intangible.

EMOTIONAL KEYWORDS: Supersensitive, Psychic, Vulnerable, Imaginative, Shy, Emotional, Sympathetic, Compassionate, Artistic, Dreamy, Lazy, Forgiving, Deep, Profound, Impressionable

If you were born with the Moon in Pisces, you don’t need to read this. You probably have already felt what I’m going to say! This is a highly sensitive Moon placement. You can feel what other people feel. You tend to take on the color of the emotional environment you find yourself in. This is because you are supersensitive and connect with others on an unconscious level. Moon in Pisces is considered the psychic sponge of the Moon signs. You are supportive and loving in close relationships and have deep emotional feelings for those you love. You are sexually and emotionally curious. You LOVE making love and use your powerful imagination in your love making! Your own desires and yearnings are very deep and intense. Sometimes it seems as though nothing can fulfill these needs and you may feel like a fish out of water. You understand other people so acutely that you could find yourself forgetting where your emotions begin and their emotions end. You can appear psychic since you seem to know things without being told. You can’t bear to see anything hurt and have a tendency to identify with weak and helpless creatures. This could cause you to become involved in humanitarian causes to help alleviate the suffering of others. You truly champion the underdog. You are usually shy and reclusive and like being alone for periods of time. You may be involved in religious and/or spiritual pursuits. Your soul hungers for a strong, powerful spiritual experience. You want your life to have meaning – preferably on a higher level. You could spend your life searching for answers to esoteric questions.

Many people who have their Moon in Pisces possess artistic talents. In fact, you may have exhibited these talents at a very early age. You could be involved in photography, music, painting, or even acting. Your natural ability to “understand” and absorb the emotions around you can give you an advantage in these pursuits. Be careful, however, of becoming lazy and watch your tendency to dream your life away instead of living it. Now that I’ve told you how spiritual and sometimes impractical you are, Moon in Pisces, let me also tell you that like any mutable sign, you can exhibit differing qualities. Moon in Pisces people can also be quite ambitious in the earthly sense. You can push yourself in business, artistic endeavors or wherever you decide. Your patience and insightfulness will ensure you accomplish your goals. You have the ability of creative visualization. You readily use this to fashion your reality. Your only roadblock to accomplishing whatever your heart desires is a lack of confidence. You have an inner streak of resilience and can usually find your way around any problems. Your childhood may have been somewhat lonely and you might have experienced the fragility of life at an early age due to the death or sickness of someone close to you. You probably felt “different” as a child and spent lots of time on your own, using your highly developed sense of imagination. You were probably very sensitive to your parents’ expectations and dreams for you. Your parents most likely did not understand the depths of your emotional makeup.

Well my Moon in Pisces friend please remember that you do not have to sacrifice yourself to the needs of others all the time. You are allowed to wring out that psychic sponge which is your mind. Martyrdom is not all it’s cracked up to be! Keep looking to the stars. If anyone figures out the answers we’ve all been looking for,it will probably be you. "May the Force be with you," Pisces Moon

Cat,

Do you like to travel or do you travel for your work? My husband and my astrotwin's wife both have Moon in Sagittarius and have done much traveling for their jobs! They can't sit still. Even now, as it's snowning in Virginia on March 30, my husband is outside pruning apple trees

Also, he is very learned, and enjoys expanding his mind. Any other Moons in Sagittarius out there?

Maria

Oxychick,

Are you a Drama Queen as well? My daughter and my friend (whom I call my psychic daughter because she is almost the same age as my daughter) are such Drama Queens, it's almost too cute to watch! Whenever they are upset, the whole world is coming to an end. They rant and rave like a famous diva on stage. After I calm them down, they become their regal selves again. They do feel deeply, especially when things don't go their way. They, do, after all, expect regal treatment of their emotions

Do you have the same qualities?

Maria

Hi Maria
Yes you know "us saggi moons" gotta be constantly on the move

I used to travel "EXTENSIVELY" with my job - intermingled with lots of holidays. I was abroad about once a month....Hong Kong, China, Korea, Taiwan, Bangkok (in fact all over the Far East) plus America, Italy, France...and that was just work
I really really miss travelling.

Expanding the mind....yes I'm like a sponge very very inquisitive. (My saggi Moon + a ton of Virgo in my chart) Currently studying Gestalt Therapy and Humanistic Counselling and I hope (now there's a saggi Moon expression )to eventually qualify as a psychotherapist...but that takes 7 years

Astrology is amazing hey?
Sue

PS: How do you relate to your Pisces Moon?
Ooo just had a thought...what degree is your Moon? It may be sitting in my 7th house...

Sag moon here... I remember one story my dad told me about his experience while I was still around 3 years old...

He actually bought a LEASH to keep me from wandering off the malls. Many times, my dad and mom freaked out when they couldn't find me at the malls. They said I was usually at the toys section chatting with the salesladies.

I love learning too... just not always the conventional way (i.e. books). It's not that I hate books. It's just that some of them are boring to read at (to me, at least). If I come acroos an enjoyable book read, I could get hooked for hours... forgetting to even sleep and eat. Then again, that's what always happens when I get hooked.

X3 -

That's so great that your parents got you a leash!
With my Aqua Moon & 1st House Uranus, my parents improvised one for me, too. After loosing me one too many times when they went out, they just tied twine around my wrist, and - after I discovered that it was oh so easy to get that off - my waist, under my clothes.
Otherwise, I was gone in a flash.
