Thanks 26. Duh, I knew that. Just a little off with the communication. Could you tell? LOL!

I always communicate clearly at 6 am in the morning (w/o coffee or anything) but after 9pm at nite? Forget it! Should shut mouth/stop fingers/cease to think.

Hmmm.. lalalinda, would I be right in saying that I have no detriments, nor any planets in their home signs or houses either?

The only one I can think of is that I might have Mercury in 3rd (home). But according to astro.com, it could be in the second house as it is technically at 27º. Am i right?

Sun in Aquarius is...detriment???

????What does this all mean???

And can the house be detriment too?...Like if you had Venus in the 1st (ruled by Mars/Aries), for example.

I have a crazy coincidence (will just tell you this much):

mars is home in the first house, but also in detriment, because it's in libra
venus is home in libra, but in detriment because in the first house

both planets are also in conjunction (1°20')

can we say something about energy or love matters from that?!

Tetra, that is really interesting! I wonder what it means? Hope someone can tell us b/c now I'm curious!

I have in detriment:
Mercury in 9th house

in home:
Moon in 4th house
Jupiter in 9th house
Neptune in 12 house

My Uranus is 1*33' shy of being in the 11th house, and I have read that it can be interpreted as if it were in the 11th (home).

I'm a bit confused about something. Does this mean Venus would be in detriment in the 1st? and the 8th? Because I always thought Venus in the 1st was meant to be a good position..

Mine's not in the 1st btw, just wondering..

someones paying attention

To put Venus in the First house is to put it in Aries house. Too Bold.

but then again

In the first house or conjunct the Ascendant makes the person Venus like (Taures/Libra) and adds beauty.

*edit* Its important to note that Venus is a benefic, her energy is positive.
In hard aspect in can be wasteful and unappreciative.

okay, i have 2 things in the fall position

Venus- virgo
saturn- aries
This is according to astro.com extended chart...
There are no major aspects to saturn in my chart. does that help or hinder the fall..
Saturn is also in the 2nd house?

Also- i have mercury in virgo- Astro says that it is Dom. and Exalted. What does Dom. mean? Is this my chart ruler?

Hi there,

Here is information from The Essential Dignities of the Planets from Ptolemy:

Sun Rules: Leo, Exalted: Aries, Detriment, Aquarius, Fall: Libra

Moon Rules: Cancer, Exalted in: Taurus, Detriment: Capricorn, Fall: Scorpio

Mercury Rules: Gemini & Virgo, Exalted in: Virgo, Detriment: Sagittarius & Pisces, Fall: Pisces

Venus Rules: Taurus & Libra, Exalted in: Pisces, Detriment: Aries, Scorpio, Fall: Virgo

Mars Rules: Aries & Scorpio, Exalted in: Capricorn, Detriment: Libra, Fall: Cancer

Jupiter Rules: Sagittarius & Pisces, Exalted in: Cancer, Detriment: Gemini & Virgo, Fall: Capricorn

Saturn Rules: Capricorn & Aquarius, Exalted in: Libra, Detriment: Cancer & Leo, Fall: Aries

Of course, Traditional Astrology does not use the outer planets as rulers. Therefore all the planets used, besides the Sun and Moon have rulership over two signs.

A planet has the most dignity if it is in the sign(s) it rules.

A planet in exaltation is like an honored gues in someone's home.

A planet is in detriment in the opposite sign(s) of those it rules. It is considered damaged or harmed.

A planet is in Fall in the opposite sign of its exaltation. A planet in fall is considered to lose strength or potency.

The dignities and debilities are used extensively in Traditional Astrology. There truly is no basis for using the outer planets in this scheme. It was based on the world view of those who came before us and had no knowledge of the outer planets. They developed a system that is currently coming back into favor with many astrologers.

I currently use the traditional ruler and the outer planet ruler of a sign when I'm reading a chart.

I hope this helps.

Hi lalalinda

You're doing a great job here. I've been gone for a while but I hope you don't mind if I stir the pot every now and then. It's the only way I can keep my Libra rising happy. The care and feeding of Libra rising

I'm glad I found my way back. This place always makes me smile and reminds me of the joy I always experienced whenever I came in contact with Linda's works.

aqua,

You asked:

quote:
...if planets are in detriment, that means they r least energetic.so that means its sort of bad.is'nt it?

"Detriment" is an ancient word which has a negative feeling to it today. Instead of "bad" perhaps it helps to think of planets in detriment as being "challenges". And overcoming our planetary challenges makes us stronger!

Challenging,

Tim
