Let's start with something fun. Most of you here have a good amount of astro knowledge. Even those who dont will be able to take part in this.

In this exercise, we will learn and practice how to put the astrological pieces together by taking keywords and phrases and coming up with basic chart interpretations.

Remember that this is a very simplified version of chart interpretation. But we must begin somewhere. Astrology is a complex art. By getting comfortable with this exercise you will begin to make connections and associations easily. And that will enable you to take a glance at a chart and have alot revealed to you.

Although there are hundreds of keywords and phrases for each and every sign, planet, and house, it is not necessary to know them all to begin interpreting charts.

There are 10 planets.
In every chart you will find each one of them.
You will also notice that there are 12 houses in every chart.
Each planet is in a sign & a house, though not every house will contain a planet.
It WILL always have a SIGN on it's house cusp.

Let's begin.

Grab a pen and piece of paper. You will want to write your interpretations down first and type them out here after.

1) Select a PLANET in your chart. Write down the words and phrases that you feel apply to the planet.

(examples of keywords and phrases for the Planets, Signs and Houses will be given in the next post)

2) Select the SIGN that the planet is in according to your chart. Write down the words and phrases associated with it.

3) Select the HOUSE the planet in sign is in. Write down the words and phrases for that house.

Putting the sentences together:

****TIP: Start the planet sentences with "I" or My".

Here is an example of how to interpret the Moon in Libra in the 2nd house.
**Moon in Sign sentence: [Moon] I have a deep emotional need for [Libra] fairness and justice.
**Moon in House sentence: [Moon] I have a deep emotional need for [2nd house] having possessions or money.

The tricky part is combining the 3 factors. You'll have to really think in order to take it to this level.
Example for the Moon in Libra in the 2nd House:
**[Moon] I need to be [Libra]extravagant with [2nd House]the money I earn.

Combining the 3 factors is not necessary in the beginning and will become easier after
you have a fairly firm grasp of how to combine the Planet in Sign and Planet in House keywords.

Notice also that words may be added so that that the sentences make grammatical sense.
Astrology is not an art of absolutes. Keywords and keyword phrases are just the basic building blocks which
convey combinations of ideas, principles, experiences, feelings and possibilities which are in truth, endless.

This exercise should be FUN! Get creative! You are not getting graded here. This is to help you get comfortable in making associations, forming them into sentences, and coming up with simplified interpretations. This is where it begins. Feel free to practice here as much as you want. Help each other out with constructive critisism.

Below, I will post some example keywords and phrases for each sign, house and planet. Please do not feel limited by them. Use any that you know of, that apply to what you are describing or interpreting.

Let's see what youve got!!!

This is great! I'm printing this out to do a little later...busy right now and others want computer time....just wanted to tell you that I think these lessons are terrific and that I am excited about learning from you. My astrology is a bit rusty and I'm so happy to have this opportunity to sharpen my skills.

Thanks, Linda

I'm going to play with my 1st House Taurus Moon...

[Moon]I have a need to be [Taurus] stable with my Self [1st House]. Maybe, I need a stable emotional self?

I feel [Moon]a need to slowly [Taurus] show my outer personality [1st House]. My outer image [1st House] fulfills an emotional need [Moon] consistently and practically [Taurus]. I have an emotional need [Moon] for a laid-back and stubborn [Taurus] outer personality [1st House].

I have an emotional need [Moon] to possess [taurus] earthly pleasures [taurus] with the head and face [1st house].

I have an excessive [Sag] impressionabilty [Neptune] with shared feelings [8th house]. I am searching [Sag] for dreams [Neptune] in transformation [8th house]. You have an openminded and adventurous [Sag] imagination [Neptune] with death and sex [8th house].

Dreams [neptune] of sex [8th house] are excessive [Sag].
Water [neptune] brings death [8th house] fortunately [Sag].

Well done Sana!!

As you know, the 8th house has to do with 'other peoples resources'. It is makes perfect sense that you handle your father's (Sun/8th house) finances. Does your Sun make any aspects to Saturn? Saturn tells us about the father too. You say you can be 'very intense, manipulative, controlling' and that could be from 'your Scorpio asc'. Yes, you are right. And also, your Sun is in Scorpio's NATURAL house. The 8th house is Scorpio's natural home and your Sun is there. Even though your 8th house is Gemini, you would feel a bit like a Scorpio Sun. See how that works?

As for your Capricorn Moon in the third, I think you are on to something there.

Now, try to make a another sentence telling us how your Capricorn moon expresses itself and in what area of life, together. I think having a Capricorn moon in the third house would give you a serious/careful/cautious (Capricorn) frame of mind (third house), most of the time (of course any aspects from other planets may change this somewhat). You are probably a very mentally focused (Cap) person, who keeps their emotions (Moon) on a tight leash (Capricorn). The way you speak (third house) could come across as serious, reserved and cold (Capricorn) to some.

Play around with it some more. You did a great job already. Now try to make a sentence using all of the aspects together (Cap/Moon/in 3rd house all in one sentence). Check out how it was done in the examples in the first post.

Great job.

Hi everyone,
I joined the class today, and I'm just diving in
This is fun.

I have Venus in Sagittarius in the 11th house. Sagittarius is the sign I feel that I understand the least, so I want to use it here.

For my sense of security, relatedness to others and enjoyment of life [Venus] I need a carefree, optimistic attitude [Sagittarius] towards friendships, acquaintances and groups [11th house].

My romantic love-life [Venus] searching can be excessively open-minded or judgemental [Sagittarius] as I need someone who is both a friend and a boost to my public image [11th house].

I have a need to be graceful, giving money and pleasure [Venus] (when I'm fortunate) freely and excessively to expansive [Sagittarius] humanitarian issues groups for world change... or to buy computers and airplanes[11th house]!

I'll try my ruling planet . Ninth house Aquarian Mercury:

My way of thinking (Mercury) is very often detached and logical (Aquarius). I'm searching for (ninth house)ingenious and alternative ways (Aquarius) for perceiving the world (Mercury). Justice (ninth house) is something that I look at (Mercury) in an unusual and progressive way (Aquarius). I form my more well thought out plans and perceptions (Mercury) whilst traveling, and in religious ceremonies, for some reason (ninth house). Religion is something (ninth house) that I like to think about (Mercury), often in a detached and inquisitve way (Aquarius). I have great interest in learning, philosophy, and reading (ninth house).

26T this is a really really good idea.. I did it with my chart and my bfs and I've noticed things I hadn't noticed before at all, things that make perfect sense

I'll just post a few..

I can be aggressive (mars) in a serious controlled manner (cap)..in my close relationships and with open enemies (7th)..

Sex (the 8th) is important to me emotionaly (the moon) but will only be played out in a serious commited relationship (capricorn)

also..

My emotional side (moon) can be shattered by death (the 8th) and this is always a serious subject to me (capricorn).

My serious skeptical side (capricorn) is most impressionable and easily deceived (neptune) in close relationships (7th)

Am I doing it right? ..hope so

:edit: can it also be the way other ppl impact on you.. like for instance.. My male friends (11th) usually also like me in a romantic sense (Venus) and they express this in a forward manner (Aries/Taurus -cusp I dont believe in cusps but I make an exception for my venus lol)

Wow! That was great you three! Really, I cant add anything to them.

aries-chick, that's awesome that some things popped out at you, that you hadnt noticed before. And yes, from what I understand, the houses also have to do with 'others' and how they impact you. Or the types of people they are depending on what is going on in the particular house. For example the 7th house can indicate how you act in partnerships, but, it can also show the types you are attracted to, or how they act towards you in the partnership. I have Mars in the 7th. Sometimes I am the "Mars person" and other times, I let my partner take over that roll. Or I attract very Martian type men. Sometimes you will flip-flop between the two. You will take hold of the planetary (or sign) power in that house, other times you will allow others to reflect it back to you instead.
11 house, has to do with friends (among other things), 4th and 10th houses will show the parents (astrologers dont agree on which house is assigned to each particular parent). 5th house, children, lovers. You get the idea. So yes, you can look to what is going on in a house and see others and how they impact you to a certain degree.

Hope that helps.

Feel free to practice here everyone. It really will help you out. You'll find that it gets easier and you get better at seeing the connections.

Here's one, if anyone would like to try.

Saturn in the 7th house in Leo.

How would you interpret that?
