quote: The 5th house person wants to know the 8th house person's secrets and private life, and may find these issues about the 8th house person romantically exciting to discover. The 5th house person may find the 8th house person's tendency to be ‘cagey’ about certain issues frustrating, and yet find their intense need for loyalty and intimacy reassuring (it bolsters the 5th house person‘s confidence). The 8th house person can be embarrassed by the 5th house person's openness and frankness about things they consider private, yet at the same time they are impressed with the 5th house person's charisma, and fascinated by how they express their passion for life. Even though the 5th house person can make the 8th house person uncomfortable with their directness, this directness is reassuring to the 8th house person who likes bold declarations of love and loyalty (it gives them a sense of emotional security).

Personally, I have noticed so far the needs for overlays are very personalized and the general rule of direct overlays in 5th 8th and 7th doesn't seem to apply in most cases. Geometry, rulers and secondary houses seem to play an important role.------------------
I seem to have loved you in numberless forms... IP: Logged |

Awesome to get some positive responses to my post from Ceri and Orange.Yeah, I think that maybe the 5th and 8th houses overlaying just buy themselves aren't enough to induce a full-blown attraction. Rather, I think this may support and enhance already existing attraction showing in the synastry... It would add something extra to the emotional dynamic. Especially if planetary overlays are in the mix as well. First and foremost I've found that we have to be the other person's symbolic 'type', and hit their house rulers, or they won't fall for us no matter what. If all of this is there, though, I can see how a 5th house cusp/8th house cusp conjunction could really turn up the heat There'd be a push/pull dynamic there. It's be similar with Sun/Pluto aspects or 5th house ruler/8th house ruler aspects, or even Sun/8th house ruler & Pluto/5th house ruler aspects. IP: Logged |

First of, welcome back, Leeloo. Lotiswhite, I agree with you, and I think that is why Auby stressed that there should be a conjunction of planets IN that overlay (personally I don`t think it HAS to be a conjunction though). I also first consider houserulers, as they have proved pretty reliable generally speaking. However I do wonder if planets IN the relationship houses are maybe more important than we give them credit. For example I certainly feel my Saturn is VERY important in terms of relationship for me. But then again my Saturn is a special case, it is not only located in 8th house, but it is a) handle of my bucket and a singleton for the Western hemisphere b)supervisor of one of my dispositortrees (traditional rulerships) (in combination with Moon) c) dispositor of my Venus d) secondary 5th house ruler So there are more indications of that one playing a larger role than simply being int he 8th house. I don´t have planets in other relationship houses, so I am maybe not the best person to decide the question if planets located IN a relationship house also carry much of the relationship theme, though I would find it understandable, if it was the case.

Agree. My Moon is my 8th house ruler, and also IN my 8th house. Certain aspects to it just really attract me. I've always thought this was not just because the Moon rules my 8th but also because the Moon is in my 8th. Jupiter is in my 7th. Not sure yet how to separate this from Venus though, because I have a tight Venus/Jupiter opp in my chart. Love when people hit my Venus/Jupiter opp for sure. It's like a BIG happy feeling. Also in my personal case I think chances are probably not that bad in terms of houserulerships, as his 5th house ruler conjuncts my Sun-Mercury his 7th house ruler conjuncts my Mars-ASC-Neptune-NN his traditional 8th house ruler opposes my chartruler Jupiter and widely trines my Venus; his modern 8th house ruler widely trines my Moon (4 degrees) his secondary 5th house ruler conjuncts my Mars-ASC-Neptune-NN his secondary 7th house ruler conjuncts my Sun-Mercury --------------- of course in terms of houserulerships he is definitely my astrological type my 7th house ruler conjuncts his Sun, Moon and MC my 5th house ruler widely trines his Mars-Jupiter my 8th house ruler widely trines his Pluto my secondary 5th house ruler squares his Pluto wide, and contraparallel his Venus my secondary 7th house ruler sextiles his NN my intercepted 7th house ruler conjuncts his Mercury and squares his Mars-Jupiter my secondary 8th house ruler conjuncts his Mercury and squares his Jupiter widely I`d say from my perspective the 7th house wins out most certainly here. But yes, all in all he does seem my astrological type. I guess we could also look up the progressions, for example my progressed 8th house ruler has just been opposing his pr Sun (of course my pr 8th house ruler is very quickly moving, since it`s the Moon). my pr 5th house ruler has been squared by his Uranus for quite some time, though that one is fading now, but it certainly makes sense to me. (my pr 5th house ruler is however quindecile his n Mars, traditional ruler of his 8th house, and after that will be quindecile his pr Mars, which will peak on 21st september 2017; while my pr Mars will be conjunct my n Venus - 0°05 a- and while his pr Venus will still be opposing his n Mars and applying to oppose his pr Mars, right in the middle between them. ---------- so it seems I am exchanging a crazy making Uranus aspect to my Venus for a crazy quindecile of his Mars to my Venus ).
my Venus ruling my 5th house. Mars traditional ruler of his 8th house, and his Uranus of course is located IN his 8th house. IP: Logged |

I hear you Especially when the person in question is more 10th house or 6th house oriented - I've been involved with someone like that and was really surprised by our mostly 6th and 10th synastry considering the intense attraction.. Though usually for me, the 5/8 is definitely a thing. (I have a 5H sun/mercury/vertex) I checked all my other significant relationships and there was a clear pattern of 5/8 overlays: the ones that were intense but didn't quite manifest or have that life changing quality were either flip flopped (where we had opposing ascendants and therefore 8H/2H and 5/11H overlays) or *almost* 5/8H overlays - where they were 8/4H with a little bit of 5H: where there was attraction on both parts, but bad timing, OR one sided attraction; and we ultimately stay close friends.

One of my pettheories is that the location of the romantic houserulers is very significant in terms of what people are really attracted to and need in relationships. Sometimes that means that those houses generally considered unromantic can become very relationship-oriented for this person. For example in my case that is true for the "identity-houses". ruler of my 5th house is in 1st house, ruler of 7th house in 1st house as well, ruler of 8th house in 2nd house. along with all my personal planets falling into 1st and 2nd house (and Mars in 12th but on the ASC). Those two houses are EXTREMELY important in attraction scenarios for me. Someone putting planets into my 1st and 2nd house, especially in conjunction to my houserulers, VERY magnetic. Someone else has ruler of 5th house in 10th house conjunct MC ruler of 7th house in 9th house, and the ruler of intercepted 7th house in 11th house ruler of 8th house is in 7th house though, and the traditional ruler of 8th house in 6th house, but conjunct MC-ruler. It is easy to see how concerned this individual is with the more transpersonal - social dimension. overlays of these houses might be more of a draw to him than someone else without this natal make up. my mum for example has ruler of 5th house in 4th house ruler of 7th and 8th house in 4th house as well ruler of intercepted 5th in 3rd house.
Easy to see that family (including siblings) is EVERYTHING to her. In fact she had to take on responsibility for her siblings early on and sort of take on a mother role for them, as her own mother died early (my mom was just 17 years old and she was the oldest of 4 children, with my aunt being only 2 years at that time). my Dad puts his Mars onto her Saturn (7th and 8th house ruler) in 4th house and his ASC-Saturn-conjunction right onto her Venus, (5th house ruler) in 4th house For him 5th house ruler is in 1st house conjunct ASC; 7th house ruler in 2nd house, and 8th house ruler at the end of 1st house conjunct 2nd house cusp (seems I have inherited a lot of astrological symbolism from him. lol) So for him it is all about 1st and 2nd house, he sort of needs to feel supported and confirmed in his very identity. That`s what he`s about. So my Mom now puts her Venus-Mars-conjunction right onto his 5th house ruler on his ASC. she also puts her Saturn onto his 8th house ruler at the cusp of 2nd house. (Since his 5th house ruler is Saturn on his ASC, he feels more strengthened and secured by Saturn than confined).
interestingly she has no planet directly conjunct his 7th house ruler in 2nd house, but her Sun falls into his 2nd house.

Her Pisces North Node in my 8th House. Her Sagittarius Chiron--Pallas and Capricorn Mercury and Ceres in my 5th House. My Pluto--Saturn--Mars stellium in her 5th House. Totally true. This can happen through the sign of the love house ruler matching signs prominent in the partner's chart. My 7th house ruler is conjunct my Asc from the 12th house in Sag. I’m attracted to Sag guys in my 1st or 12th house. My 5th house ruler is Mars in Leo in the 9th house. Not really into guys hitting my 9th house (at least not yet). The 5th house rocks my world though! It’s like my Mars in Leo (which naturally rules the 5th house) leads my attraction energy back to my 5th house. My 8th house ruler Moon in Caner is in the 8th house. I can be attracted to my 8th house but I also have a weird sort of aversion to it. A Cancer placement would have to accompanied by a lot of fire in the chart, and a bit of Air. I blame my Venus/Moon quincunx for this. Cancer placements on my Moon feel awkward unless something in Fire or Air is also trining or sextiling my Sag Venus. Like the quincunx gets exaggerated. With 8th house ruler in the 8th I like Scorpio however. Scorpio Moon or Venus with a Sag Sun is a nice combo. My Gem Dsc gives me the 3rd house as my secondary 7th. Aquarius ruled by Uranus in Scorpio. Usually most attracted to Fire Suns (Aries or Sag) with Aquarius and/or Scorpio placements. My secondary 7th adds to my liking for Scorpio/Pluto energy. Going back to my 7th house ruler at the end of the 12th house… I like Scorpio Moons in my 12th house as well a Sag placements. Occasionally there’s a Gemini or Leo placement to my attractions too because Gem is my Dsc after all, and Mars in Leo rules my 5th house. These seem to be secondary though. Sag/Aries/Aqua/Scorp combos dominate for sure. It’s so predictable it’s almost boring how obvious my taste is. I’m a 1st house kind of girl. I know what I like and that’s that. I think this is a 1st house/Aries type of trait (I’ve got Sun/Venus in the 1st and Mercury conjunct the Asc). We’re not usually so ’open-mined’ about our likes and dislikes at all. But I think knowing what you like is a good thing. I think there’s validity to location of our 5th, 7th, and 8th house rulers by house placement in terms how this influences our ‘relationship outlook‘. My 7th house ruler in Sag/Jupiter in the 7th, as well as Mars in the 9th house, make me look for a guy with a strong morel code. It’s a priority for me to feel I could trust him to make wise/ethical choices. I like courage and a bit of an ‘edge’ because of the Aries 5th… But questionable morels scare the crap out of me. Chivalry and honor impress me.
