So I thought I'd collect some data regarding the significance of this particular karka. The Darakarka in Jaimini astrology (a branch of Vedic Astrology) is known to show the spouse, their personality, profession, even looks. How do you find it? * Check using the sidereal chart method (Hindu/Lahiri on astro.com) * Use the whole sign house system * For research purposes, please check your Darakarka using the western zodiac as well, and state which one describes more accurately your spouse/significant other 1) Look at the planet with the lowest degree in your birth chart (only take into account the 7 main inner places, do not look at Uranus, Neptune, Pluto or the Nodes). This is your Darakarka. 2) Check the sign and house its placed in 3) Check what house(s) its ruling 4) Note the Darakarka's nakshatra and the nakshatra's lord. Read up on that particular Nakshatra for clues into their personality/profession/looks 5) Check any planets its sitting with (doesn't have to be a close conjunction, as long as they are in the same sign and house) 6) Check what houses and planets it aspects. Now Vedic aspects are a little different. Vedic astrology doesn't count squares, trines, sextiles, etc. The word "aspect" in Vedic terms simply means "sight", or what house a planet is looking at and influencing. I will describe each Vedic aspect below: Conjunction: - A planet in the same sign and house as another planet will always be considered a conjunction, no matter the orb. Planets in the same house means they are in the same room and therefore sharing space/energy. Opposition or Mutual Aspect: - All planets will always look at the 7th house from where they are, or the opposite sign. This is also called a mutual aspect because both planets are looking at eachother. Think of the houses as apartments and the planets as people inside those apartments, looking out the window. They will only be able to see what's directly in front of them (7th place from itself). Additional Aspects: - Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are the only planets that will have additional aspects and they are the following: - Mars will always look at 4th, 7th, 8th sign from itself - Jupiter will always look at 5th, 7th, 9th sign from itself - Saturn will always look at 3rd, 7th, 10th sign from itself Now, depending on the condition of your Darakarka planet (debilitation, exhaultation, in enemy or friendly signs, sitting with friendly or enemy planets, functional malefic or benefic, etc) it will put that particular energy onto the house its looking at.
Have fun!

Western chart analysis:1) My Darakarka: Moon 2) Sign & House: Cancer, 12th house 3) House it rules: 12th 4) Nakshatra: Ardra - The Moist One "The individuals of this nakshatra are believed to possess the characteristics of a child and thus undergo extremities of emotions like those of extreme happiness or utmost sadness. One of the important behavioral characteristics of such people is the transformation of emotion that the natives of this nakshatra undergo that may produce cognizance or a state of confusion. These are the kind of people which like to analyze and investigate the causes behind a particular function that takes place. Some of the behavioral characteristics that make people of this nakshatra endearing is their empathy towards other and their helpful nature." 5) Nakshtra lord: Rahu 6) Aspects: Moon conjunct Mars Moon looks at the 6th house in Capricorn The Cancer and Capricorn bits definitely fit. I am attracted to men who are caring and reliable, as well as mature, stable and real.
Rahu also fits, since it rules the foreign, and all those who I've been attracted to have been of a different background/culture than me. However I find the Western method lacking in showing my affinity for Venusian type men. IP: Logged |

Sidereal chart analysis:1) Darakarka: Venus 2) Sign & House: Libra, 4th house 3) Houses it rules: 4th & 11th 4) Nakshatra: Chitra - The Bright One "This is the enclosure of all beauty, fantasies, imaginations and creativity which makes everything around look beautiful, colorful and gorgeous. This is the arena of artists which adorns and embellish simple things into unique appearances and so on enhances the worth of everything they touch with their hearts. It’s the blend of knowledge and strength of mind and emotions and trueness of heart. Endowed with a slender body their refined and attractive mannerisms are very appealing. Their power of intuition and ability to inhabit a mystical realm also count amongst their positive traits. In their behavioral characteristics they are marked by an inherent tendency to create, show, beautify and project. Fascination for the essentially illusive world of glamour and beauty, alongside of a desire to surpass the same endows the natives of this Nakshatra with an aura of complexity. Simultaneous presence of a spiritual perception results in the emergence of complexly multifunctional behavioral characteristics. Aestheticism, deft craftsmanship and artistic acumen are the leading hallmarks of such natives. It is difficult to come across one without the possession of these assets." 5) Nakshtra lord: Mars 6) Aspects: Venus conjunct Jupiter & Rahu (he'll be spiritual and rebel?) Venus looks at the 10th house (he'll have a high authoritative position?) I feel this is spot on, especially the Nakshatra description. It pretty much sums up the type of men I've fallen for.
Let's see if my future husband fits any of those characteristics. IP: Logged |

What do you mean by "looks at", do you mean the polar opposite house to where it's situated? (IE: A planet in 9th, is looking at the 3rd house.)

Yes, exactly. But if it's Mars, Saturn or Jupiter they will look at more houses than just their opposite houses. I've already written the aspects of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in my first post, so now I'll share those of Rahu and Ketu (although they cannot be the Darakarka). - Both Rahu & Ketu will always aspect 5th and 9th from where they are sitting. I actually read about this technique from Kapiel Raaj's book bundle. But here's a video by Vedic Astrologer Ernst Wilhelm that might be useful for you. http://youtu.be/VKiRRTmh2Kw IP: Logged |

My Darakarka in tropical is Saturn in Virgo in the 9th house ruled by Mercury in Sag, and exactly sextile Jupiter. So perhaps someone hardworking who is also Sag-like? That seems probable based on my taste and tendencies. IP: Logged |

Thank you for sharing Lotis. Your Saturn also places aspects on your 11th, 3rd and 6th so they might have qualities of those houses too. Out of curiosity, what is your sidereal Darakarka? IP: Logged |

Sidereal chart: My Darakarka is Saturn in Capricorn. It’s in the 2nd house. Rules the 2nd house. Nakashatra: Mula/Moola – The Root. Lord: Ketu Aspect: Saturn square moon. Conjunct venus/NN/asc. Squares aren't counted in Vedic astrology though, you would only have to take into account the traditional aspects (conjunction, opposition, and the houses that Mars, Jupiter and Saturn look at). Every planet always places an aspect (looks at) the house that's opposite from where it's sitting. Therefore in your case, Saturn in the 2nd house looks at the 8th house from where it's placed, signifying an attraction to Scorpio qualities. Saturn's additional aspects are 3rd and 10th from where it's placed. So counting 3 places from your Saturn, you would arrive at the 4th house. Counting 10 places from your Saturn would be the 11th house. IP: Logged |

I wouldn`t mix up western and vedic too much though, it usually gives muddled results (though now and then you will get some hits I think) Nevertheless sticking to my sidereal chart
Mercury 1°32 Sagittarius - 2nd house rules 8th + 11th Nakshatra is MOOLA (lord Ketu?) close conjunct Sun (under 1 degrees) sign conjunct Venus obviously Mercury is conjunct Sun and Venus in 2nd house - Sun rules 10th, Venus rules 7th and 12th aspects the (th house with Saturn and Ketu (Saturn ruling 3rd)

okay let`s try the western tropical version Darakarka Mars 5 Sagittarius in 1st house - Nakshatra MOOLA
- lord of 5th and 12th house (oh the decadence ) - aspects Sun, Mercury and Rahu in 1st house - aspects Ketu in 7th house - aspects 4th house with Jupiter in Pisces - aspects 8th house with Saturn in Cancer That makes a lot of sense as well.

For those wondering what the Nakshatra is, I found this link: http://www.galacticcenter.org/main/nakshatras/the-27-nakshatras.html Basically, wherever point of the zodiac your sign is in, there's a Nakshatra that covers it. Very similarly to the Moon Mansions. So, now I shall contribute my findings: Sidereal Chart Analysis: 1) My Darakarka: Mercury 2) Sign& House: Pisces, 9th house. 3) House it rules: 3rd(Virgo) and 12th(Gemini) 4) Nakshatra: Uttara Bhadrapada "the latter happy feet" The "Warrior Star", they are disciplined with writing and speaking abilities. They are somewhat like their former twin nakshatra, Purva Bhadrapada but a lot milder, and can control their anger and aggression. There can be a lazy streak. There is wealth usually as a gift or inheritance, usually latter in life. They are cheerful, generous, and self sacrificing. They tend to be extremely protective of their loved ones. They love solitude and seclusion, for they need time to contemplate. They can be incredibly psychic with profound insights. Their depth and wisdom can transcend the ego to the collective consciousness, and seem to have magical powers. They achieve a happy home life and are usually blessed with good children. 5)Nakshatra Ruler: Jupiter or Neptune, depending on what you want to ascribe Pisces too. 6) Aspects Moon Conjunct Mercury(Since orbs don't count) Mercury looks at Third House. Western Chart: Much the same, except Mercury's in Aries. Houses that are ruled, slightly change though: 11th House(Gemini), 2nd House(Virgo) Ashwini "the horse woman" The "star of transport," they are pioneers, explorers, always ready to try something new. They have zeal, and a zest for life. Heroic and very courageous, some will want to join the armed forces. Their restless and impatient nature has them rushing off quickly without planning ahead. Speed, not efficiency, is their preference. Their speech may be quick and halting, possibly stuttering, for the words can’t match the speed of their thoughts. They are the true trailblazers, headstrong and stubborn. As the symbol for new beginnings, they can represent a baby who goes after what it wants, not considering the inconveniences to others. They can be childish, irresponsible and inconsiderate. Ashwini rules all forms of transportation and fast travel. They are probably known for getting speeding tickets. Healers performing miracle healings are one of Ashwini’s gifts. Like Neptunian Venus, I feel Sidereal a lot more. Especially if my soulmate ends up being who I think it is, she fits the sidereal interpretation a lot more. IP: Logged |

Western Chart 1)Darakarka: Moon 2)Sign & House:Gemini in 1st 3)Houses it rules: 3rd 4) Nakshatra: Mrigashira "head of deer"This is referred to as the "star of searching". These individuals are constantly searching or looking for something. They are restless, nervous types always traveling. They are collectors looking for one more piece to add to their collections. They love to shop and fine that special deal, and the shopping or searching never ends. Like the deer they are gentle, peaceful, tender and have large soft doe like eyes. They are seekers and are powerful investigators and researchers. Highly intelligent their quest will eventually take them to spiritual dimensions of their soul. There is a sensual provocative side that can lead to incestuous relationships as the myth suggests. The fun is in the chase or the journey not the destination, for then the trill is over. They are known for having beautiful children. Ruling Planet: Mars. Nature: Deva (god-like) Presiding deity: Soma the moon god. Male Natives of Mrigasira Nakshatra Physical feature : He will have a beautiful and stout body, tall, moderate complexion, thin legs and long arms. 5)Nakshtra lord: Mars 6) Moon trine NN and Moon conjunct Asc Well I do like intelligent, stout, long limbed men Vedic 1)Darakarka: Sun 2)Cancer in 3rd 3)Houses it rules: 4th 4) Nakshatra: Punarvasu "return of the light" 5)Nakshtra lord: Jupiter This is referred to as the "Star of Renewal". After the bleak storms of Ardra the light appears again. Those with this nakshata have the ability to bounce back again, for they have deep limitless inner resources, and no boundaries as to what they can accomplish. They are deeply philosophical, inspirational, and spiritual with a true genuine understanding, which gives them their wisdom. There hardly seems to be a shadow side. They are likable, and charming. Because of their forgiving ways, others seem to forgive them easily. They love to travel, but just as the arrow is returned to the quiver so must these natives have a home base with family to return. There is a definite theme of return and renewal. As they give back to the world their prosperity doubles. This is a very prosperous nakshatra. They don’t have the need for a lot, they are content with little. Male Natives born under Punarvasu Nakshatra Physical features: Handsome, long thighs and long face. Some identification mark on the face or on the backside of the head. 6)Sun conjunct Jupiter and opposite Saturn

Interesting thread, thank you Now for the profile.. Both my Darakarka are Mars (interestingly, in sidereal, the darakarka is actually Uranus, and peregrine Uranus is my primary chart ruler by interception). Nakshatra: Chitra - The Bright One "This is the enclosure of all beauty, fantasies, imaginations and creativity which makes everything around look beautiful, colorful and gorgeous. It is difficult to come across one without the possession of these assets." Chitra "the bright one" 23.20 Virgo to 6.40 Libra Symbol bright jewel, or pearl Deity Tvashtar or Vishvakarma the celestial architect Stars Spica, the bright star in the wheat ear of Virgo, this is one of the most auspicious stars of all denoting success, riches, and a love of the sciences and arts. Mythology Tavashtar is the celestial architect that can shape how humanity will see the world. He creates the Universe by blowing the creatures into existence, fanning them with his wings. He is the master of maya and magic, and represents regenerative power and longevity. Indications This is the "star of opportunity". These individuals posses charisma, personal charm, and can be flashy and glamorous. They love bright colors and usually have very beautiful eyes with well-proportioned bodies. This is one of the most mystical nakshatras of all. They have deep spiritual depth and with sudden flashes of insight. They are wonderful conversationalist; they say the right thing at the right time. Chitra rules creation, indicating artistic ability, and organizational ability as in architectural design. Many artists are born in this asterism. With an affinity to jewels they may deal with gemstones. Chitra reflects the world of maya and delusions, which they are to over come.
In sidereal, Mars is in Virgo, 6.07, exactly conjuncts my tropical Venus, 6.20. In tropical, Mars at 0.30 Libra. Part of a stellium in the 8th: conj Pluto and Mercury. So I guess this is it: Virgo/Libra/8th house (Scorpio )guy (Plutonian) with strong Mercury (Mars also rules my 3rd and my 5th, 6th and 8th are ruled by Mercury) and most likely aspecting my Venus. Artistic and bright Although it is not accepted, I do see a connection between this and my mentioned Uranus. Also, it is interesting to notice Chitra pretty much describes me as well.
