Okay, so we all know that there are many different ways to connect with others through synastry and composites. What I'd like to know are what are your personal favorite interconnections to see.

Your could mention what signs you like to see in the partner's chart, what aspects you like, as well as what type of things you want to see in the composite. Also, mention why you value these things, perhaps with reference to your own chart.

Do you have a little formula that you use to judge astrological interconnections with?

I'll go first...

I love to see 5th, 7th, and 8th houses activations in synastry, through overlays and through house-ruler aspects (for people liking each others style), combined with gender planet (yin yang) aspects (for the raw materials of attraction).

My favorite aspect for attraction are Venus/Mars aspects (it's popular but not everyone's favorite).

Also there's nothing like seeing conjunctions to the Vertex or Anitvertex in synastry. This tells me that the relationship will be a memorable impact.

Another thing I like to see are conjunctions or trines to the North Node... This tells me that two people are making progress together. South Node conjunctions can be compelling but they can hold you back unless the North Node is also involved (my personal take). When a planet makes soft aspects to an angle, the point that is trined receives energy more readily (it's most strongly impacted) then the point that is sextiled, so I've noticed. That's why I mentioned TRINES and conjunctions to the North Node. This principle seems to work for all soft aspects to Angles.

I'm also a big fan of seeing the luminaries aspect each other... Sun/Moon, Moon/Moon, and Sun/Sun. Hard aspects are okay as long as they are compensated with another strong aspect like this... For example, you have a Sun square Moon aspect with someone, but you also share a Moon trine Moon aspect with them. Soft/hard combos like this are actually pretty exciting. It's a mixture of harmony and challenge.

If Mercury is not aspected at all for either person this concerns me. Being able to communicate is so important.

Unaspected Venus concerns me as well. It's not totally necessary for a relationship to work, but it sure does make things sweet and lovely when Venus is heavily aspected.

In the composite chart, I like to see Sun conjunct or opposite Venus. It means there is a deep true love between the two people.

In synastry, I like to see the Venus/Mars/Uranus/Pluto. And I always look to see if the Girls Sun/Moon/Asc aspects the Mans Venus/Aphrodite or Hera. It means she is very attractive to him physically.

Nice!

My MOON is opposite his APHRODITE. (0°)

How did you come upon this delineation, Athene?

And, although his VENUS is square (1°) my MOON, it's also antiscion. That helps!

Otherwise, SUN sextile VENUS (4°). And his SUN is sextile my VENUS (0°). Kinda love that.

I'll have to look up HERA.

For me, LW, I'm finding that I actually love the oppositions. Never thought I'd say that. I love the innate complementariness; the challenges combined with the urge for growth. The best relationships I've ever had are those which acknowledge the issues and stay dedicated to sorting through them.

To that end, there's no 'blanket profile', I don't think. We need different things at different points. I had several early Virgoan boyfriends as I was learning to incorporate my VENUS and discover my ASC's traits. Two were lunar Scorpios; afterwards, I branched out: Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, Aquarius. (Hmm; noticing a pattern?) But once I was in my mid-twenties, it shifted again: Pisces. I dated two Sagittarians, then I married a Geminian. Late Gemini, however. And, as of 2013, I've had a boyfriend who's an early Cancerian. My husband is largely Mutable -- SUN, MOON, MARS. Similar to my immediate ex: double Sagittarian, but with everything else Fixed -- Aquarius, specifically. ASC, VENUS, MARS, etc. (MERC is also Sagittarius.)

My boyfriend is mostly Cardinal:. SUN, MOON, MERC, MARS with a Mutable (Sagittarius) rising. VENUS in Leo (Fixed).

I don't need my ASC to be as represented; I've been steadily growing into my SUN, as well as MOON. (My husband and boyfriend are both Cancer MERCs; my husband's VENUS/MARS in Water. My boyfriend is also an 8H SUN.) I'm learning to carry my own VENUS now, too, as well as enjoy when a man activates my MARS.

It's interesting, how the path of our relationships paints a portrait; tells the story of our own interpersonal development and evolution.

My boyfriend's MOON (Aries) has been the most comfortably challenging to my SUN (and other Libran points -- like BML and JUNO); it keeps me on my toes. Rather than argue and truly differ in opinion, we seem to represent different facets of the same thing, or take slightly different approaches in the same area. But his Aries MOON is 5H, and I do have 'Leo in my MOON' (by Dwad) as well as it resonating with what I like about Fixed types to have drawn it in frequently.

My husband, on the other hand, fits the lunar Sagittarian personality profile I've loved since my adolescence. I'd say a handful of my exes are lunar Sag, with 80% of my best male friends across time.

It almost always the men, though. I've always found that funny. Female Sagittarians -- oh, definitely. I've got a few female Sag soul sisters. But the MOON? Only in men, oddly enough.

And if we're going by straight up methodology, I'd have to say it's the 'core influences' approach I've slowly developed over time. The reasoning is that each natal will carry core influences; there will be certain energies which resonate very naturally with it, just as much as others greatly clash. Synastry application is nothing more than evaluating each in regards to the other, without focussing too heavily on interaspects. I have found this to be useful, and allow us to get right to the heart of an individual, to see how and what might be working, or, the opposite, proving too much of a stretch for proper harmony and integration.

Yeah, there are certain asteroids I look to as well. I tend to see Juno and Psyche as female significators, and Eros as a male one.

Juno has a vibe similar to the 7th house, and Saturn... It tells of our commitment values and also of what we see as beautiful (Juno has an association with adornment).

Eros has a 5th house type vibe, and it tells of what we find romantically exciting.

Psyche has an 8th house type vibe in that it deals with secrets, insight, and private intrigue in love relationships (in the myth Psyche sneaks a look at her anonymous lover, even though she's been forbidden to do so). Psyche also has a slight Neptunian vibe in that it shows some of our ideals on feminine 'perfection', and our psychic connections. In aspect, I've noticed that Psyche will feel an urge to jump through hoops for Eros.

I tend to see Aphrodite and Adonis as talking about female or male physical qualities that attract us. By symbolism or synastry aspect. My Adonis is at 9 Scorpio as well... I have a tendency to like dark haired men.

Cupido, Amor, and Valentine are also great in romantic synastry. Cupido and Amor are similar to Eros, but while Eros is very passionate, Cupido is more light, flirty and playful, and Amor is just very warm and loving in an almost platonic way. Valentine seems to be about giving out of love, and about the external courtesies, rituals, and 'props' we associate with love.

I've never really paid that much attention to Hera. But I've noted the positions of Hera and Zeus in my chart, and tended to see the two of them together as a mature married couple that are already settled. Haven't taken it much further then that.

Out of curiosity, how have you noticed that Hera contributes to attraction? I imagine Hera has a similar meaning to Juno but with a slight difference.

I see that totally. Each natal chart has it's own setup, and this influences the types of synastry that might resonate the most with us. A Saturn square in synastry might be perfectly manageable for one couple, and a complete disaster for another one, for this very reason.

ASC's conjunct or trine, esp Aries 10 (my Neptune on her DESC) or Leo rising. Pattern completion (Sag and Aqu 10 do it for me). Leo Sun (mine is Aries). Libra or Leo Moon. Leo Venus (conj my Mars/Asc). Libra or Pisces Vertex (mine is Cap). NN in late Sag or late Libra. Mars in 1st half of Gemini (conj my Venus) or Sag. Eros, Psyche, Cupid, Amor, Valentine, Lust, Juno aspects. I'm a bigtime Romantic!

Composite Leo ASC and Moon, Jupiter 4H, Mars 5H, Gemini Mercury, Vertex DESC, Venus--Mars conjunct. Anything that creates powerful resonant harmony, prosperity, ease, and flow.

^^ I'm also partial to Ascendant conjunctions.

I agree with Lotis about North Node trines/conjunctions and am happy to hear reference to the significance of the trines.

I would add that a very tight Juno quintile North Node is responsible for one of the longest relationships in my circles, going on 7 years (we are young ok!). Would say NN quintiles are noteworthy.

I look for North Node conjunctions to angles first, personally, and Vertex/anti-Vertex conjunctions/squares... I get really happy if i see Jupiter/NN conjunctions, and of course luminaries (Sun/Moon) aspecting one another, very important... Juno seems very important for a certain kind of relationship. The question is if course, what does each party want/need? Each chart does tell such a different tale, as per Aubyanne's insights, and I'm always looking for different things with different people... Juno is soothing to some and stifling for others.

I really like to see a grand trine or kite in composite, lending stability/energy, and mutual completion of geometric patterns. Complementary Chiron contacts do seem significant, as per the Magi... But I don't always see them and don't consider them necessary...

Pretty much this:
http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum35/HTML/000019.html

I'm a big fan of Venus/Mars too, apart from Sun/Moon. Because they happen, in great relationships. It's not just a myth.

What I don't like to see:

-unaspected (especially personal) planets
- tight, but scarce aspects (short term, and often painful or unrequited, more like lessons than actual relationships)
- compacted composites (they don't last, no long-term couples have them)
- I've noticed direct overlays in 5th 7th are not that important, but rulers in aspect are, so lack of romance rulers in aspect

I like to see at least one hard aspect (synastry or composite) between Saturn and a luminary (or Venus Mars) for the most enduring relationships.

Short summary: the best synastries have Sun/Moon, Venus/Mars, Saturn, DWs, pattern completion and matching symbolism. (mirrors and complements)

In my own synastries, partners (romance and friends) usually have:

- strong Saturn (I am Cap ASC, Saturn conj DSC making a Mystic Rectangle with Sun and MC)

- strong Pluto (I am 8th house, strong Pluto)

- they have something on my MC in Scorpio, (Sun, Moon, Venus or Mars); it's on my Moon cross (sq my Moon), sextile my Sun and/or Venus and my ASC (the same Mystic Rectangle)

- they have something on my Mutable Cross - made of Venus - Neptune - Jupiter/Juno - Eros. They usually have Mars or Venus there, but Moon too, especially for friends. Almost always something in Gemini (where Eros is, the leg without a planet) falling around my duplicated 5th in Gem and my secondary 7th in Taurus.

- they have something in Aquarius, always - my intercepted 1st - trine my Libra stellium (Mars.Mercury.Pluto) and Gem Eros or the nodal axis (Gem/Sag); and also on my Moon cross. (made of Moon - Lilith in the 1st - MC). I strongly identify with my 1st house Aqua Lilith and this fixed cross.

- other signs they usually touch: Pisces (where my Juno/Jupiter stellium is); Sag - where my NN/Neptune is; Libra - where my Mars stellium is

I like trines/sextiles to my Mars stellium, not hard aspects (apart from conj) ( because it is part of a Minor Triangle). But I like squares to my Venus, since its sole geometry is a cross.

In composites, I often have strong Scorpio energy.

what i love to see:

- angles conjunctions! incl. nodes and vertex -> absolute favorite
- 7th house overlays...sorry i am old-fashioned
- fulfilling the partners's needs and being the partner's type
- of course the classic aspects like sun/moon, venus/mars, venus/pluto but this is no must. Aspecting the midpoints of sun/moon venus/mars, etc. is sufficient IMO
- saturn aspects for stability
- grand trines

Sun/Moon -- a great connection (especially the opposition)

Saturn/Sun -- no. 1 stability aspect

Venus/mars -- Attraction!!

Jupiter/Sun/Venus -- I personally like to see this in a synastry where jupiter is touching sun or venus. It makes a great optimism in the relationship, the two people are really there for each other and makes each other laugh and be happy with each other. Negative aspect can result in a bad economy though...

Sun/Neptune -- I like this, because it adds a little dreamy, mysterious side to the relationship.
The two people look up to each other, and one of them sees the other as their ideal partner. Attraction never really fades away.

I don't like to see: Venus square or opposite pluto. I personally see this as an indication that the relationship wont last. This means powerstruggle and an unhealthy obsession with each other. They simply want each other too much, and this can be hard, because you need to give each other space and freedom to make a relationship function on a long-therm basis. But never the less these kinds of relationship will be very personally transforming and intense, filled with passion and strong desires.

I also love 2 see the mystic rectangle since it provides a telepathic connection

I hate to see a grand cross or a Yod in synastry or composite. Those relationships are unlikely to last or at least 1 heartbreakening break up happens, so are my experiences and observations

I have the venus pluto square with my soon to be ex hubby. 29 years. So it can last, but you better believe it's been power struggles and pain. When I've been crazy nuts over him, he was meh about me, and vice versa. It's the classic "don't want you, but don't want anyone else to have you either" aspect.

° mirrored and complementing aspects in natal (including partner pattern)

° conjunctions to the angles, including Vertex-axis (though Vertex-axis is not a must for me) along with nodal axis, tight squares work, too

° luminaries in aspect or at least some sort of compatibility or mirroring

° relationship-profile-planets (planets ruling 5th, 7th, to a lesser degree 8th house, and planets located in 5th, 7th and 8th house, especially if hugging the cusp) in strong tight aspects to personal planets in the other chart (esp. Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars plus ASC, possibly MC and ruler of ASC along with dispositors of personal planets if there is a stellium)

° some Jupiter aspects (a must for me, not for everyone else though) plus some Saturn aspects to personal planets (including and actually favouring the 4th harmonic aspects)

° a synastry that reflects natal pattern (what could you do with a nicely Uranian synastry, if your natal pattern demands for Saturn-Pluto? )

° relevant composite planets in tight overlay of natal planets

° some (personal) aspects to female Venus and masculine Mars, or an aspect between those two. I am oldfashioned I know (and the other way is great, too), but well I like to feel like a woman now and then (have to be reassured of this occasionally with all that Sagittarius-Aquarius-energy)

° and last but not least
activation through progressions. These are actually a MUST.
If it is not there, the most beautiful compatible synastry will not take off. Sadly I have seen that over and over again (progressed composite work as well, btw)

EDIT
As for Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, it`s a flavour, not the main course!

Well somepeople CRAVE a particular flavour, but this will only work, if the ingredients for the main course are there already.
As boring as it sounds, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars. ruler of 5th, 7th, 1st.
Without them, there is no relating in a basic sense (even though there can be hot passionate affairs based on something liek Uranus-Venus or Pluto-Mars).

if the basic relation is there, those outers can deepen the experience enormously, if not, oh well, I suppose everyone is needing to make their own experiences with that.
