Yeah, it's weird how many 0° aspects chiron makes. If any chiron aspects do exist in synastry, they're usually part of the closest aspects there.

Do the oppositions and squares indicate reigniting old wounds (inadvertently)? Are they just as binding but more difficult?

My friend's Venus is conjunct my Chiron. We have had painful misunderstandings but worked through them and are still friends, with a lot of love and compassion for each other. We trigger each other because of a double whammy Sun Pluto hard aspect in synastry, as well as Mercury square Mercury, but there is so much love and understanding it's crazy.

My ex partner's progressed Venus is conjunct my Chiron... when we got together it was exactly conjunct my Retrograde progressed Chiron and it will soon be conjunct my natal Chiron...
