I'm sorry, Anon.

I think combust planets can be alleviated through strong positioning of the dispositor. Like my Sun/Jupiter conjunction is in Aries and the ruler of Aries is in it's exaltation, in Capricorn. Maybe this softens the impact? Although, Sun is in it's exaltation in Aries so either that is good because it's in a friendly sign or it's bad because it's all the more strong to debilitate Jupiter.

Anyway, life is full of struggle and we all will deal with it, knowing or not knowing about scary descriptions like these.

Any planets conjuncting Sun by less than 5 degrees are said to be combust planets.

^^The combustion distance varies from planet to planet.Rahu and Ketu are not influenced by the sun because they are both not radiating planets. Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn come at distance of 17, 14 (12 when retrograde), 11, 10 (8 when retrograde) and 15 on either side of Sun, they are subjected to combustion. I want to highlight the fact that combust planets are MAINLY used in election astrology not in natal astrology. For instance a combust mercury MAY not feel it's effects ONLY when he goes gambling.A natural benefic/or a planet that is well positioned in a chart that is involved in a yoga formation, when combust loses a bit of its power to the sun. A combust planet in a natal chart if is powerfully placed (in its own sign/that receives digbala etc) in a navamsa chart loses it's malefic power in the natal.The Sun will additional add its malefic power to the planet with which he tightly conjuncts if the longitudinal difference between him and the combust planet is less than five degrees.However this may be offset if that particular planet is elevated in the navamsa,although the person would HAVE to go through certain difficulties at least in the first part of his life especially when transits of either the sun or the planet occur. Should this planet be saturn the good part will be more rewarding however not before going through some very tough times.Should it be Mars, it may create havoc in the person's life but rewards could be ascension to power in the later part. It all depends on the planet, and how beneficially placed in a natal chart.

Anyway, anyone got something to say about Vedic?
For example, if we want to check compatibility and attraction in a vedic chart and not only do the Kundli matching, how would we go about?

Jessica? Kero?

I think I said something about this in the other vedic thread,marriage compatibility thread.

If those orbs are used my Mercury,Saturn, Mars and Venus will be combust

I read about the 5 degree orb here http://vedicastrologyblog.com/combustion-a-planet-under-fire/

Can combustion take place between planets occupying different houses?

Do you mean combustion without involving the Sun, Anon?

@Jess:

Thank you for describing combustion more thoroughly!

@Anon:

Omg! *facepalm*

You mean an out of sign combustion, like Sun at the end of Aries with some planet at the beginning of Taurus! Right? Please say right because it took me ages to get it!

Haha Anon, smooth criminal!

You never answered what your big eyes about my age meant. Do I look a lot older than you too?

You're one of those "I never show my age" people huh?

To be honest, these kinds of descriptions are exactly the reason why I seem to never stick to Vedic and turn away again.
As much as the techniques fascinate me, but that sounds just like fatalistic medieval Western astrology (Saturn in 8th - you will die a slow painful death, probably by being buried alive) to me.

However, I do hope there is some more modernized interpretations, too. Not that modernized means good in all cases. And I definitely think we should be aware of the roots of the craft, but like a tree grows out of its roots, the application of astrology should be growing too.

Besides that, the interpretation is wrong in my case. And I am clearly after my Saturn Return.

Jessica,

thanks, for the explanation on combustion you did.

Well, my Mercury is not really strong in Navamsa either, as it is in Aries (probably only strengthens the Sun more).

However since you mentioned gambling, I never do that.

BTW Mercury is the ruler of my 8th and 11th house.

It was the only emoticon that was close to my reaction , you don't really look older than me so it's not something we should worry about .

Oh cool so then I only have Jupiter combust. Mercury is more than 14 degrees away from my Sun and Venus is 10 degrees away and retrograde, so it escapes too. :hot:
