is anyone else here an earth mama?motherhood has shown me the most amazing insights and strength.... for instance, i have a completely new relationship with my body....i'm learning to cherish how awesome and exquisite it is. whereas pre-motherhood, i felt like i was battling my body....to look better, to feel better...to be better. now i know it's the best there is....i'm all soft and curvy, provider of comfort and nourishment for my little one. i still have my baby fat, and for a while post-birth the years of conditioning weighed on me.....but my focus has shifted finally to learning to nourish myself as much as i need to....to find the ideal natural shape and health that has always eluded me, yet that i've pursued for so long, in so many ways -- over the years.... diet pills and birth control pills diet sodas sugar free gum cigarettes caffiene laxatives fat free butter, cookies, cake, etc... aerobics, long distance running, triathlons calorie, fat gram and carbohydrate counting fasting strict macrobitotics ....to name a few... always some restriction or another to force my body to do something....that i oftentimes thought for my own good and health! the following is from an article in this month's 'Mothering' magazine: A pregnant woman has our society's blessing to eat heartily, even irrationally...She is, after all, "eating for two...." Often, it's the first time a woman can begin to satisfy her lifelong hunger, which long ago she learned to squelch. whoa....when i read that, i was amazed at how true that really is, but how unaware i ever was of it.....if you really think about it..... to continue.... To my great surprise, I actually love my body more than before I got pregnant. I view my body with a previously unknown sense of respect and awe. Yes, I'm bigger and stretchier and jigglier....But in the meantime I made a whole other person! I stand taller now and walk with a greater purpose. I'm proud of my baby body, knowing that it gave my son a comfy vessel in which to gestate and has been the source of all nourishment since birth. When he's hungry, he cries for me to bring my body to him for a feeding. When he's tired, he wants my body to comfort him -- an angular form won't do (ask my husband)....Rather than feeling desperate to "lose the weight," I am revelling in my baby (and my body), enjoying him every moment, without entertaining those intrusive, culturally prescribed thoughts. Mothering Magazine (a wonderful site with great articles and forums) it took years of abuse to have the imperfect health that i have now, so i know it will take time, patience and love to re-configure back to true health, but i feel that i'm already there just in acknowledging this! your mind is in your body, not separate from. your body truly is your temple....housing your being, mind and soul.... in the same way that society tells us to regard our bodies, it tells us to regard our lives; i truly believed for the longest time that the following thoughts were mine originally (now i know better!) think about what society constantly tells us to think....for most of my life i've believed that birth and children were a nuisance, painful, and an unfortunate aspect of being female. not for the educated, modern person who is going places, but more of an afterthought to your life once you've done your share of living...after you've settled down, not while in the midst of your youth and freedom!!! how terribly wrong and blinded by culture i was! birth and a babe have been the most empowering, life-affirming events i could ever imagine! i think our culture must discourage women from focusing on children to keep women from coming into their full power. being pregnant and a mother have deepened and expanded my life in ways i never could have imagined. babies should be welcome in our lives as a bonus and a gift. it would not seem so dire to have a child if all your life circumstances weren't exactly right if society didn't tell us so. we can make room for our children in all aspects of our lives if our culture would allow for it. well, anyway just some thoughts on being an earth mama....more to follow.

Women! We are the Maidens, the Mothers, and the Crones. We are entirely different from Man, but always of equal worth. We represent all that is mysterious, comforting, nourishing, beautiful, and wise. We are the lovers, the caretakers, and the strength behind our Men, and yet we can stand on our own with all the glory and grace that is our birthright. We can change the world by raising our children with Love and Light, knowing that Motherhood is truly a blessing and not a burden. We can pass our wisdom on to the generations that come after us as we are excellent counselors and guides, and our dreams can lead us with light through the darkest depths to retrieve the pearls long thought lost by Mankind. We are the Queens of our world and our temples must be properly cared for ... our bodies are meant to be soft, round, and naturally beautiful. We are Women, and our world could not exist without us!IP: Logged |

to all natural mamas ~ * ~ * ~i love this magazine.... The Mother Magazine quote: When a woman is aware of her fertile signs she empowers herself with the ability to conceive or control conception naturally and successfully. The Mother magazine will teach you how to read your fertile signs, overcome blocks to fertility and live within the rhythm of life. We have indepth articles on the use of nature's gifts such as flower essences, aromatherapy, homeopathy, colour healing, reiki and so on.Conscious Conception Our articles promote conscious awareness of health and fertility for both men and women well before a planned conception. The Mother magazine encourages parents to explore the path to conception in a holistic fashion using a variety of ideas, techniques and methods. We hope to open parents to the idea and practice of pre-conception communication with their future child. Peaceful Pregnancy In many cultures, the mother 'with child' is considered holy. The Mother magazine wants to bring this awareness into our fast paced society. Our articles give sound advice and support through the prenatal period. You will learn simple and effective relaxation and visualisation practices as well as beautiful rituals and ceremonies to celebrate this miraculous time. Sacred Birth Our purpose is to support women and their families in creating a sacred and natural vaginal birth (on earth or in water). To know that birth is a woman's responsibility. Our vision is to share with women that childbirth is meant to be a painfree and pleasurable aspect of our sexuality. Natural Immunity The Mother magazine is unashamedly anti-vaccination of the world's children. You won't find articles here on all the reasons why you should vaccinate. Our articles serve to raise awareness against this holocaust that looms over our children today. You will find up to date information on the side effects of vaccinations and how you can maintain a healthy immune system for your whole family. We also cover other aspects of health care and how you can use natural medicines and alternative therapies for the whole family. Breastfeeding These articles will focus on extended breastfeeding, tandem nursing, increasing milk supply, nursing for nourishment and nurturing and more! We will also look at how to overcome common and uncommon difficulties that can arise. We have articles on how to nurse a baby with Down’s syndrome, cleft palate or an adopted baby. If you have a query on breastfeeding, we have an article. Regular updates from Baby Milk Action and the Nestle Boycott. Holistic Mother & Child A wide range of articles for the holistic parenting journey...such as homeschooling, human scale education, sign language for babies, natural toys, creating community, yoga for children, the family bed, natural hygiene, baby carrying, why NOT to circumcise your son's penis, natural vitamin K at birth and love centred discipline. Our focus is on the attachment parenting lifestyle.
