I'm so happy! Okay, a few years ago I went to the USA with my family and I attended school there.... and I was just thinking about my English teacher there because she really had a profound effect on my life.
She is a amazing! So I looked her up on the net and I found her homepage.
I just got in contact with her! YAY!

So anyway she wrote this on her home page and it touched me greatly, and I thought I'd share it.

quote:
Philosophy of Teaching

Mother Teresa said, “There are no great things, only small things done with great love.” Applying this to my teaching career, I’ve come to believe in the “small things.” Day to day, month to month, and year to year, I’ve watched and marveled at those small moments. A smile erupts on the face of a student who creates a metaphor. Eyes sparkle when a student finally “gets” an underlying symbolic theme. A spirit soars when a returned “A” paper reflects a job superbly done. “Small things.” But when added together, they stand as the sum of the most rewarding and satisfying career I could have chosen. Looking back at my life, I realize that remarkable people propelled me onto this fulfilling path. Caring, passionate, creative teachers helped me overcome tremendous shyness and a lack of self-confidence in order to find my own unique gifts. They empowered me to explore that one thing which I could claim as my own passion. I dreamed of becoming a teacher who would leave a small impress of confidence and love on the hearts and minds of teenagers. The only thing that has surpassed that dream is the reality of my career. Without a doubt, I love teaching at Woodbury High School. Every day I discover with amazed pride that the students entrusted to me want to be the very best people they can be. I’ve never met a student in whom I couldn’t find that spark of goodness. Once ignited, that young person is indeed on the way to finding that very great thing meant just for him or her. I am so blessed to be a teacher in this career of “small things.”

This is absolutely beautiful, thank you so much for sharing this excerpt from her page.
Sounds as if this particular teacher has genuinely touched your life as well.
Most people in the USA when reflecting back on their school years do in fact have that one teacher who's left an imprint on their heart and truely got them excited about learning about the world around them.
I suppose that it is these teachers path to do such, but it really feels amazing to have been blessed this way, huh?
I suggest SunChild, that if you are able you do your very best to keep in touch with this beautiful soul.
By doing so, it is further support and encouragement to this teacher to follow her path and is a reward unto itself to know that lifes were affected in a positive way.

Sending love to you

The really good teachers can find that love of learning in anyone. Even with all the blocks that school boards and the like tend to throw in their way.

There was even an experiment done where a teacher was given a class of failing never-do-wells and they pretty quickly transformed into A-students with a positive attitude.

Thing was, the teacher thought the students ALREADY WERE the way they became. Apparently, her belief in them affected their own belief in themselves.

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll
