It's the free poem inside the wrapper of a chocolate bar I bought at our local Fresh & Natural grocery store. Ordinarily I would have never bought it, Randall, but the checkout line was unusually long, I love peaches, and it happened to be on sale...seemed like a sign from God.
What Will You Do, Love? What will you do, love, when I am going With white sails flowing, the seas beyond? What will you do, love, when waves divide us And friends may chide us for being fond? Though waves divide us, and friends be chiding In faith abiding I'll still be true And I'll pray for you on the stormy ocean In deep devotion, that's what I'll do What would you do, love, if distant tidings Your fond confidings should undermine? And I, abiding 'neath sultry skies Should think other eyes were as bright as thine? Oh say it not, though guilt and shame Were on your name, I would still be true But that heart of yours, should another share it I could not bear it, what would I do? What would you do, love, when home returning With hopes high burning, with wealth for you If my barque which bounded o'er the foreign foam Should be lost near home? What would you do? So you were spared, I'd bless the morrow In want and sorrow, that left me you And I'd welcome you from the wasting billow My heart, your pillow, that's what I'll do! ~Samuel Lover ****************************************************************** Btw, a BARQUE is a tall ship...or large, traditionally-rigged sailing vessel. quote:
Samuel Lover (24 February 1797 – 6 July 1868) was an Irish songwriter, composer, novelist, and a painter of portraits, chiefly miniatures.

It is a compelling wrapper. And the peaches remind me of him too...you know, the Red Hot Chili Pepper guy...Anthony Keidis's doppelganger. He said he was a Scorpio, born on October 25th, and he said his name was Mike. But one day when he couldn't decide what his last name was, he told me Michael was really his "archangel name" and sometimes he went by the name Ishmael, which in his world was Michael spelled backwards. I was a little exasperated and confused with his evasiveness, but at the same time didn't try to pin him down or pry. I had known him a long time, trusted him explicitly, he had done some nice things for me and my family, if he wanted his air of mystery, then I guess it didn't matter what his name was for the time being. If he wanted to be Michael the Archangel, who was I to stop him? Quite a few people called me The Priestess and besides that--the world certainly does need more Archangels. Anyways, we both loved music and when we were together we were usually always listening to music. I would say he paid attention to what my favorite songs and my favorite bands were. He was well aware that I was into The Allman Brothers and Capricorn Records. Probably to butter me up after he'd been away for awhile, he'd sing this song from the Allman Brother's Eat A Peach album called Melissa... quote:
MELISSA - ALLMAN BROTHER'S - EAT A PEACH"Crossroads, seem to come and go, yeah. The gypsy flies from coast to coast Knowing many, loving none, Bearing sorrow havin' fun, But back home he'll always run To sweet Melissa... mmm... Freight train, each car looks the same, all the same. And no one knows the Gypsy's name No one hears his lonely sigh, There are no blankets where he lies. In all his deepest dreams the Gypsy flies with sweet Melissa... mmm... Again the morning's come, Again he's on the run, Sunbeams shining through his hair, Appearing not to have a care. Well, pick up your gear and Gypsy roll on, roll on. Crossroads, will you ever let him go? (Lord, Lord) Will you hide the dead man's ghost, Or will he lie, beneath the clay, or will his Spirit roll away? But I know that he won't stay without Melissa. Yes I know that he won't stay without Melissa."
Pretty sweet, huh? And maybe just an air of truth in the lyrics..."no one knows the Gypsy's name"? IP: Logged |

My sister and I had been carpooling to the college we were both attending to save money on parking and gas. We usually took her car, which meant she was the DJ and she got to pick the music. My sister was really into country and she even made country music carpooling mixes for us to listen to on the way to school. After carpooling to college together for two years, my sister decided to join the Navy. Upset my only sibling left for the Navy, I bought a country CD by The Judds which had a song called Young Love (Strong Love)--a song my sister had been making me listen to during the week. I was impressed with the rhyming of the opening and ending lyrics..."She was sitting cross-legged on a hood of a Ford, filing down her nails with a emery board..." But it was the first song--that Kentucky Girl song--Why Not Me, on The Judd's CD that ended up being my favorite song. When I bought the CD, Mike (the RHCP Archangel) had been hiding out at my house and I (apologetically) played that song over and over, giving him a wink and a squeeze to make sure he knew just how much his Kentucky Girl appreciated her Kentucky Boy... quote:
WHY NOT ME - THE JUDDS"You've been lookin' for love all around the world Baby, don't you know this country girl's still free? Why not me? Well, you've finally come down to your old hometown Your Kentucky Girl's been waitin' patiently Why not me? Why not me on a rainy day? Why not me to love your cares away? Why not me? Why not me when the nights get cold? Why not me when you're growin' old? Why not me? You've been searchin' from here to Singapore Ain't it time that you notice the girl next door, baby? Why not me? You had to see if the world was round It's time that you learned how good settlin' down could be Why not me? Why not me on a rainy day? Why not me to love your cares away? Why not me? Why not me when the nights get cold? Why not me when you're growin' old? Why not me? You've been lookin' for love all around the world Baby, don't you know this country girl's still free? Why not me? Why not me? Baby, why not me? Oh, baby, why not me? Oh, baby, why not me? Oh, baby, why not me?"
I had also bought new matching velvet VS bras and g-strings, which may have helped this country girl get her message through to her cowboy. We listened to music a lot, weren't big talkers, so it was kind of my musical reply to him singing Melissa to me. IP: Logged |

SCAR TISSUE - RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Scar tissue that I wish you saw Sarcastic Mr. Know-it-all Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you ‘cause With the birds I’ll share With the birds I’ll share This lonely view With the birds I’ll share This lonely view Push me up against the wall Young KENTUCKY GIRL in a push-up bra Fallin’ all over myself To lick your heart and taste your health ‘cause With the birds I’ll share This lonely view... Blood loss in a bathroom stall Southern girl with a Scarlet drawl Wave good-bye to ma and pa ‘cause With the birds I’ll share With the birds I’ll share This lonely view With the birds I’ll share This lonely view Soft spoken with a broken jaw Step outside but not to brawl Autumn’s sweet we call it fall I’ll make it to the Moon if I have to crawl and With the birds I’ll share This lonely view... "Autumn’s sweet we call it fall I’ll make it to the moon if I have to crawl and With the Byrds I’ll share This lonely view..."Scar Tissue ~ Red Hot Chili Peppers We listened to this Jazz CD a lot! Esp. the first four songs, and then I'd usually put Autumn Leaves on an endless loop... The beginning of the song Scar Tissue is very reminiscent of the beginning of Autumn Leaves..although the intro to Scar Tissue is much shorter in duration, but then again Autumn Leaves is an 11-minute song. Many years before in the winter of 1992, the RHCP guy who gave me all the stickers, also gave me two guitars for Christmas.I couldn't decide if I should get an acoustic or an electric, so he surprised me with both. He said the guitars meant a lot to him. He told me not to sell them without first giving him the opportunity to buy them. I believe he said his dad had given them to him. He had hoped that I would use them more than he had. IP: Logged |
