ok, I'm a make-up junkie and was wondering what are some of your favourite products and brands? I like rimmel face powder and lip vinyl, I like nyc (cheap!) mascara, and covergirl eyeshadow.

I love make up and don't leave home without it!

Generally I'm an Estee Lauder girl...but I use Clinque Almost Make Up foundation because it's so light.

Lipstick, I always have at least 5 shades in my purse at any time! And I use many different brands, but the best lip liners are actually the least expensive ones, that you find at drug store.

Good topic!!! I am a cosmetician, actually. (as well as make up 'artist' and aesthetician) I have baskets full of makeup, and I love it. It's a bit of an obsession, actually. The new L'oreal/Revlon mascaras, with dual ended primer and mascara can add so much length, it isn't funny, tiny fibres actually build them up, but they are safe for contact lens wearers, and sensitive eyes. My absolute favourite is lipstick. Revlon moistrous is great, it has a gel texture, and goes on to look very juicy. Also, SPF of 17. Very important, especially with a gloss. I went to a shower, a few years ago, and they did that 'what's in your purse' game. I ended up having 18 lipsticks in there!!!! ( I have a penchant for big purses) When you think about it, That's less than a month of wearing a different shade almost every day, and forgetting to take them out again. Obsessive, yes, But I don't care.

well work and "going out" make up are very different.

But for everyday work stuff where I have to look "NORMAL" I use:
Physician's Forumula brightening liquid in Yellow. Use that for under the eyes.

Physician's Forumula LIME swirl concealer to neutralize ruddiness on the cheeks, forehead, nose.

Physician's Forumula brightening powder.. great stuff! I only have to reapply once all day.

I LOVE Max Factor's mascara. Not the new one 3D or something like that but the waterproof one 3 thousand calories or something like that. It is one of the few mascaras that does exactly what it says it will. I am very excited about that particular mascara I advise anyone who asks to buy that one.

*LOVE* Physician's formula too!! I like Perscriptives but it's too expensive right now. Physicians is affordable and REALLY works. My skin looks good but not like I"m wearing tons of make up

I think people are intimidated by it because of the colours.

Hmmm, I am like Aphrodite. I use Revlon Colorstay foundation. I also love the L'Oreal thick lash or Maybelline thick lash mascara.

I used pencil eyeliner, brown and black, that I smudge with a bit of dark brown eyeshadow so that it doesn't look too intense. (I love Revlon eyeshadow too).

I have a problem trying to use the liquid eyeliner because I poke myself too often in the eyeball (LOL).

I also use a but of powder to even the tone, lipliner and a mauve to red lipstick depending on the occasion.

My mother is a cosmetician and gets me tons of things to try. She is more on the hair side and the funny thing is that she really isn't totally into make-up, but she's an Almay girl.

Oh yeah, and everything I use has to be non-allergenic. I have sensitive skin.

I also use Oil of Olay and Nivea face wash and the Nivea Q-10 antiwrinkle night / day cream. Hey, one can never start to early to preserve our skin.

I love being a foo foo.

For all the Revlon colorstay fans---
They have also recently come out with a new 'lighter' formula. Same great coverage, but it's texture is a little lighter. It comes in a different bottle. I love the coverage I get with the original, but sometimes I feel a bit too made up. I agree, Pidaua, It is never too soon to start taking care of your skin. So many people use bar soap, with no moisturizer, and wonder why their skin is dry/tight/not responding well. The pH is thrown off. Naturally, our skin protects itself from the harsh environment with an 'acid mantle'. So if you use an alkaline...ie; barsoap, you are not technically penetrating that barrier and creating a deep down clean. To effectively clean, you need a pH neutral is you have very sensitive skin, like pHisoderm, spectrojel etc. If you have oily/combo. you can use something with antiseptics, like Hibitane, tersaseptic, or even the aforementioned. Washes with an acidic pH are the best for deeper cleaning, pore cleansing etc...Like Neostrata or anything containing salicylic acid/or any hydroxy acid. Which include lactic, glycolic, glycolic being the most effective. These are naturally occurring, and found in fruits and milk. Even if you have oily skin, it is important to moisturize, with an oil free moisturizer. You can have oily skin, but think it is dry, because it is dehydrated. And drink lots of water. By the way, your pores are your pores. If they are expanded or clogged, that is the size of them for life. But you can reduce their appearance by keeping them clean. Use a scrub a few times a week to exfolliate, depending on your skin type and age. Use an SPF everyday. It is the single best preservative treatment for your skin.....and don't forget your neck/decolattage.
Just thought I'd offer some tips, if you are reading this thread. Let me know if you have any skin issues you require help with. Or see your dermatologist.

"By the way, your pores are your pores. If they are expanded or clogged, that is the size of them for life."

This is true?!?! Thanks Pixlepixie!

I have the new Revlon Colorstay foundation now, and it's much better. The formula before was a bit thick and if I didn't apply it evenly fast enough, it would "dry" and you could see the swabbing marks The new bottle has a push-down nozzle so you don't use too much, which was probably a problem with other users with the old formula. Yet I like it because it stays put through out the day and doesn't become greasy and melt off. Ewww. LOL.

Aphrodite ~ Yes, unfortunately, it is true. Pores are a genetic part of us. They are supposed to be how they are, but if they are in a constant state of being clogged, they can be stretched, and then, yes, they stay larger. (Pores are called "comodones".) It is important to keep them clean. The good news though, is that oilier skin have larger pores, BUT, chances are, your skin will age beautifully compared to your dry skinned friends. You would probably prefer a lotion's texture to a cream. If you have a tendancy to break out, choose an oil free lotion. Still, Don't wash your face more than twice a day. You can overstimulate your skin's sebum production if you wash too much, thereby creating an environment conducive to breakouts. Your skin essentially says "HEY!!! I put that oil there to protect myself, and you took it away? Well, Here's some more....." Shine blotting towellettes are a fabulous invention. I even use those cheap kraft paper towels when I am at work and shiny. Just press it on my forehead gently to blot. EEEWWW!!! But, when I look at my mother, I am grateful, because, her skin is still beautiful, with barely a line, in her fifties.... by comparison, my mother in law has very lined skin, though she is the roughly same age.Yay genetics!

I use Noxema, to clean my face, cuts through all the dirt and grease.

Moisturizers--I never use the commercial products loaded with chemicals. Daytime moisturizer is "Kiss My Face," very light and citrus-y, available at health food stores.

At night, pure vitamin E cream mixed with pure essential Orange oil, as outlined in the "Oranges and Hyacinths" forum. It's the absolute best I have ever used.

I have experimented with, and researched, many natural moisturizers, like Avacado oil (great stuff) and cream/lemon juice, but the Orange & E is awesome.

Great for exfoliating: make your own Olive Oil and Sea Salt scrub. Just mix the two and gently scrub your face. You'll glow.

And no matter how late it is, or how much I've had to drink, I always wash and moisturize my face before bed!

pixelpixie--I love those tissues too! I get the CoverGirl brand at the dollar stores for a buck!

Trillian ~ That's great, washing your face before bed no matter what. I go to Seminars, and one thing that stuck with me was research pointing to this - " Every night that you sleep with your make up on is equivalent to 7 days of aging." That really struck home for me. It makes sense too, as your skin repairs itself at night, during sleep, and if the pores are clogged with dirt, make up and junk, it can't do it's proper job. Plus, It just feels great to "take the day off, and relax". I love clean skin. Great tips on the natural alternatives too....I love kiss my face.
Also- a little tidbit from seminars- Research has proven that superficial lines, like those created when your face is creased into a pillow at night, or your breasts pushed together in sleep, eventually become permanent lines. Over time, your skin falls into the same patterns of movement, and just like crows feet or laugh lines, your skin retains a memory of repetitive creases. ( I, personally LOVE laugh lines and character lines.) But I have noticed that if I have my head stuck in a pillow, and it forms creases, it takes a while before they go away, and with age, a breakdown of collagen and the framework of the skin happens, creating deep furrows and the tendancy to not " bounce back" so easily when pinched. So that research also makes sense. I know too, my grandma ( who is gorgeous) has a vertical line running almost to her neck, where her breasts are pushed together during sleep. This is a permanent line. So I am aware of that reaserch just in my day to day life.
