It's a bike bike. Like with pedals. And he wears spandex pants or shorts when he rides it. He's such a loser.

He was pouring water on his bike tires when I got home yesterday afternoon (trying to get the ice chunks off I guess) and he looked up at me and said "hi". Can you f-ing believe that? "hi". Like as if we're friends.

I said "Don't talk to me"

I have a new b*tch now...tell me why, oh why are my pants feeling so tight? I work out. I watch what I eat. I'm totally health conscious and try to do what's best for myself, but still, my pants are feeling too tight!! I read somewhere that you'll put on an extra layer of fat when the cold season is upon you. It's a physiological response over which you have little control. Anyone ever hear about that? Prox, I know you have a whole other issue with tight clothes that is beyond your control, so I'm sure you can relate.

Well, even when I wasn't preggers, I'd fluctuate between about a 10 pound range (without dieting or really even paying attention). It'd snap one way with one season, and back with another, so I never gave it much mind.

Well, I don't like it. Nope, not one bit.

Anyone have a diet menu they could share with me?

You guys are too funny!
Well, I have to admit I am not looking as svelte as I was a few weeks ago, though my husband says I'm crazy.... ( I love that man) I tend to get a bit rounder, in this cold Canadian climate, around this time, then take it off again come spring, so I agree with prox about that. BUT, As far as diets are concerned, I would just keep doing what you are doing.... staying active, and eating sensibly. Listen to your body, maybe it needs the extra insulation so you don't have to bundle up in three layers at night. In the summer, it's tank tops and underwear to sleep, if that.... in the winter/fall, it's thermal socks, flannel men's pajama's, a long t-shirt and three blankets plus a comforter, and it still takes me at least half an hour to warm up so I can sleep!!!!! That's some crazy stuff, and it would be more efficient to just have more internal padding for warmth, but vanity won't allow me that.... maybe a few pounds.
I reccomend portion sizes that are small, a variety of fresh foods....
Lots of people have success with the Atkin's, or similar carb resricting diets, but it depends on what is feasible for your eating style. It has to be enjoyable, or it simply won't work, right? Good luck to you, don't sweat it, you probably still look gorgeous, just suck it in or wear a 'girdleish' thing to the X-mas parties, and in the spring, you'll be back to you.

hey pixie
don't look now, but I think I'm following you around.

I have done a revised fit to my lifestyle low carb thing that has proved to be a magic formula for me. I've actually lost close to 120 pounds since May of this year. It's melted away. I think that the key to my success is to have finally figured out that I needed to make the plan work for me instead of making me work for the plan.
People fail again and again because making extreme changes in our daily habits takes us way out of our comfort zones. I've discovered that I could make it work and stay comfortable at the same time.

Ok..so, now I think that would pretty much make me an expert on the padding vs. no padding issue. I can assure you that at 250lbs I was freezin' my buns off. Perhaps even more so...I mean, just think about it, more skin area exposed to the elements. *s*

If weight had added insulation that kept me warm, I'd have been in a perpetual mink coat all winter...which of course would have been nice, but...e gads...that coat doesn't come off in the summer.

Anyway...I just don't seem to feel much difference this winter 120 lighter, but then of course, I am in California and we all freeze to death as soon as the thermometer drops below 70 degrees...*g*

firestar, congratulations. I've been a chubby chick all my life , (photo proof available here at LL!), I know what the struggle is like. Your results in such a quick time are remarkable.

lioneye, I wish I had some advice for you, but the bottom line, I think, is that only you can find what works for you. We are all a little different. Atkins works for some (I'm a vegetarian, so it's out of the question for me), low fat works for some...and perhaps, for you, it's just a little hormonal imbalance. And don't forget the importance of the thyroid! If you've been feeling especially tired, moody, if your skin is more dry than usual, you might want to consider a test for hypothyroidism. There are other indicators too, of an underactive thyroid. We've written about some of them in a thread in Health & Healing.
I'd be happy to talk with you about it further if you have any interest.

Good Luck!

Well, I suppose it could be attributed to hypothyroidism, as there are a few cases of it in my family, but wouldn't I have noticed symptoms of that long ago? I'm often chilly, and I have below average blood pressure, but I'm active and fairly slim. I think it's just because winter's on it's way, and we've already been hit with a few cold spells and some snow too. Another reason why I do not belong in this climate. *What was I thinking?!?!?!* shakes fist at self for not choosing to incarnate somewhere that's warm year round

Thanks for your input, guys. My sister has lost about 12 pounds by just limiting her complex carbohydrate intake. (pasta, rice, potatoes, bread) She makes spaghetti with spaghetti squash instead of pasta, wraps with lettuce leaves instead of flat bread, and eats loads of salads and skillet fried onions, mushrooms, peppers, etc for side dished in place of the carb. side dishes.

I really should try that too, but I'm such a carb lover.

I know it is probably not written for commentary, but I was not written for rules.

You, my dear, are one of the brightest souls I have ever (not) met. I know how you feel in losing your independence, and I think we all struggle with similar things in our own ways. I commiserate. I understand. I could say so much more, but I am not a man who thinks when women vent, we need solutions. I am a woman who knows and understand that when we vent, we just need release. And maybe a tub of Ben N Jerry's.

The one thing I will say, as I believe it needs saying, is that whatever you have and would/will have gone to school for, you have talents evident in this forum that I read daily. You are an incredibly talented writer. You can do that anywhere. You can do it ( albeit not comfortably) with a screaming toddler in the room, building blocks and knocking them over.... You can do it with piles of laundry unapogetically stacked in the corner...... you can do it as an outlet for the absence of your loving husband. You can do it for your joy and sanity. You can do anything.
Sleep well, things will look different in the morning.*hugs*

pixelp - That's OK. Thank you for listening.
Re: school. Eh, I was sick of it anyway.
If nothing else, I think that I needed/need a good, long break. Part of me is just throwing a hissy fit over the whole thing.
Thank you for saying that I can write (that means a good deal to me...and now I have to watch what and how I write...very...carefully) - I was going to explore that possibility in my "rebuttal"
(see below)

Aph - Aw, it's not that bad.
That's just what part of me thinks -
I'm a Fish, remember?
There's at least another part of me thinking a something else (more like a dozen thinking a dozen different things).
That part of me just really, really needed to vent...and I'm writing a rebuttal shortly.
Heck, everyone's calling in sick to my work (that's where I am now), so I just might be sitting her all day with scant other amusement.

As a writer, when I read your posts, I always see you as one who should be a writer, too. I've wondered if writing is something you might pursue.

Never forget what a groovy chick you are.

Oh, Prox. I think we all go through simular bouts of dispair when we're preggers for the first time. You really do have to mourn your youth and unencumbered freedom of movement, and the like...but you'll adapt, I promise, and you won't mind it all that much. Change is always a little scary and we tend to wish to resist it, but life is ever changing, and that's the way it's suppose to be. You're entering a new phase, one that is hugely different from the previous one, but a day will come when you're sending her off to school and bawling your eyes out about how your baby is growing up so fast!! Then, she'll discover boys, and a whole new phase will manifest for everybody concerned. This is the stuff your life is made up of, Prox. If you don't care for the circumstances, you make do until you can improve them. And all the while, you're learing and growing and getting to know yourself, and uncovering truth after truth about life. Just think of all the great writing material your going to get out of all of this, Prox. You really SHOULD write about your experiences and feelings, because it can help someone else when THEY'RE going through it all. That's your contribution to this godforsaken place...perspective, and the eloquent expression of it.

And remember that everything on earth is temporary.

And I loves ya!

Hi Prox,

How are you feeling today? I am sorry you are so overwhelmed. I cannot say that I identify because I do not have any babies, but I do empathize with you. My heart goes out to you. Hang in there Sweetie, it will work out and remember one thing - You have a beautiful creation of your love and the love of Jase inside of you. I can think of nothing more amazing that a baby in the belly and how wonderful it must be to know that you are responsible for such a miracle.

Lots of love!!!!

Just needed to b*tch about my a-hole neighbor again. He ratted on us for having a kitty in our suite. It's my neice's kitty, she brought her up from Louisiana. A-hole heard her meowing and called the manager to tattle. Such a LOSER!!!!!!!

Ok, I know I'm not allowed to have her in my suite, but why the heck should HE care? I guess he'd rather I put her out in the minus 30 degree cold. Just goes to show you he's a $hit disturber, and just he LOVES it when he's able to complain about me for something. If I don't give him any reason to complain, he digs for one. He has to get his jollies, you know. Such a f-ing a-hole.

He needs his a$$ kicked Lioneye!!!! What a total freak-pie!!

Well, I am kind of bummed, but at least I was expecting this. We have really decided to let go of Mr. Leo. It's okay though because we all knew it was coming and he has had a couple of interviews with some big Ag companies. I think he will have a new job in about 2 weeks and we have a severance package to cover him until the 15th of April. ( I got my company to extend his time, plus use vacation etc.. for tax reasons).

We are both pretty sad, but I am working with a few companies out west to see about employment and had a great meeting last week in Phoenix. Looks like the cattlemen connections I made will help with the job outlook, but still - it is scary to know that Mr. Leo and I will not have the time together that we used to.

He is really looking for a job for me in the Northwest!! Yipppeee, what a dude. It really touches me.

But, I hate the dorks here. They are trying to move us into a new building and take away our offices. They want to put the Sr. Scientist, the lab tech and myself in cubicles so that the 80 year old freak can watch us through his new office with a plate glass window. LOL....whatever...guess I am in the 3rd grade now.

Sad news is his Cappy wife is in the hospital with a major staph infection from a broken ankle injury. It was a compound break with the bone sticking out. She is 84 and I am worried that she won't make it.
