My hands smell like Stop Bath, or wait, maybe that's fixer... So! any one print in the darkroom anymore? Okay so the price of film is going up and Photography is becoming less photographic and more lets see how we can tweak this "picture" to make it better. More like a bunch of Ones and Zero's being minipulated by some darkroom killer in Los Angeles. The only thing I like about it, is that as the industry gets further and further aways from convential methouds. The darkroom becomes a "lost Art" This makes Black and White Photography... More Sacred. will some one slap me if I ever use digtal for art? This is not just about Photography, this is art! tell me about what your concerns are with todays art... Your Own Personal art! What are the Artists on Linda Land thinking? RIII IP: Logged |

I too love the darkroom, I hear what your saying. In fact I was just talkin to the neighbor girl who would come over and use my dark room-while taking class. *deep sigh* I miss it. I have to admit, I have become a digital junkie, but my love remains with b&w & darkroom processing. Film is still reasonable if you by in bulk and load yourself, correct? I just have a hard time making "time" to play with photography again.....but will I get rid of my processors and equipment...heck no! cuz someday, I'll be back. IP: Logged |

I went to an Art college and we had photography of course, one of the classes was called Materials and Proccesses. It was pretty much a free for all using ANY photographic technique you could think of. I chose collage, multiple exposures, placing different items on the photo paper. (by the way, there weren't all these fancy cameras around, just your 35mm and if you were lucky a telephoto lense) I loved putting things under the lense and seeing what happened. You do print after print to get it just right before showing anyone. $$$$ You show these works of art to someone other than an art student or pro, whatever, and they say "Hmmmmm". You think, "You butt hole, how many times have you ever seen three mice coming out of a gourd with a slight shadow of a blind man peeking out from behind the gourd, without a trace of evidence of the twenty times you had to expose it?" God, some people. It's not right to the photographer. Then they say things like, "Oh, you should see the picture of my niece I took with my new xxxx camera! Like they had something to do with it! And people wonder why artwork is expensive. You want to say things like "Look lady, you can't buy this at Wal-Mart"!!! Butt hole. Empathy is coming from this artist!! (my terminology is probably off a bit, but you know what I mean) s to your LOL. Mary IP: Logged |

Oh Deeply, I studied Graphic Design when There wasn't digital....everything. When I graduated, Macs just came out on the market. So there I was, trained with all the tools of the trade, and no mouse! No more hands on, no knife, drafting board, no physical tools that made the art an art. I tried computer G.D. for a while, and eventually quit a career because I couldn't "Touch" my work. It all happened inside a computer where I couldn't see the process. I guess I sound a bit bitter. I probably am!!!IP: Logged |

You know Philbird. I have a friend who is a cartoonist for a local paper in Denver called the Westword. He makes 2 comics a week. One called "Hip Tip" and the other "Worst case Saniroio." I'll tell yuo one thing about him. He does EVERYTHING on a draft board and in penciel and inks it in. Deesn't even own a computer. He's old school. I like his style. It is extra work, but it shows in his quility. I love his style. That reminds me. Kenny Be is such a great guy too... I wish I had some pictures to show you of his workRIII IP: Logged |

I really don't miss the darkroom. Chemicals and tons of expense. Granted it's been a long time since I worked in one. A very long time. But most people can't have one, including me. I love digital photography. Doesn't matter to me how emotion and memories are captured. The medium isn't important to me - the person making it is.
