I KNOW - this had me laughing so hard re-wrting the CV's on the back burner for a while!
The Six of Wands

quote:
Author Commentary:

LEGO didn't get the Lord of the Rings license, but that didn't stop me from making my own little Gandalf the Grey.

This figure took me forever to get a good shot of. More on that in the rejected section.

Early versions of this card had all the extra wands facing in the same direction - and it ended up looking like "Gandalf in front of a fence". My idea was that people (just out of frame) were holding the wands, but I guess they're really good friends as they'd pretty much have to be standing on top of one another.

!!!!!!

One of my personal favorites. If you know what the real card looks like it's funnier.

Author Commentary:

quote:
Yes, that's me.

I put myself in this card not so much because of the divination (although I'd like to think at least some of it applies to me), but mainly because the idea of lying on a beach while disembodied hands ply me with tropical drinks struck my fancy.

quote:
Okay, I admit it, this card's image has very little to do with the divination. But how could I pass up the payoff built up from the Three and Five of Swords?

Besides, I just like the idea of the Black Knight making a living by pawing the weapons of his fallen foes.

Of course, he's doing this to avoid getting a real, steady job. So maybe this image fits the card, after all.

On a technical note, I didn't have that many LEGO swords on hand, so several of the ones seen here were added digitally.

LOVE the Empress in the library. LOL

quote:
Okay, so I have a thing for librarians.

(I blame the video for the Adam Ant song "Goody Two Shoes.")

The figure's head is from the Alpha Team sets - I had to edit out the microphone on her left cheek.

She's reading Tom Riddle's diary - no symbolism meant there, it was just he most "book like" book LEGO had produced at that time.

Strength

quote:
Author Commentary:

Traditionally, this card shows a female figure subduing a lion or other wild beast. I didn't have a lion, so I went with a more "literal" view of Strength, with a female athlete wearing a tiger shirt.

I had to use this odd angle to show both the barbell being raised all the way, as well as the mini-figure's face. A frontal view completely obscured the face, or required the bar to be lowered to the point where it looked more like "Weakness" than "Strength."

I know - they're too much!! Where's everyone?? They're missing the new education of tarot for kids! I know I'll be busy when I'm Sheaanextofkin!

Ten of wands

quote:
Author Commentary:

What does the imagery have to do with the divination? Heck if I know. This is just another example of my falling back on Rider-Waite when no other inspiration was present.

All I know is I feel sorry for this guy if he's got to schlep those wands all the way to Mos Eisley, or wherever he's going.

!!

I better take stock too and get back to the CV now!

... after laughing at this one!! OMG before seeing the description that's exactly what I thought - the black knight!! "..It's just a flesh wound!!"

Three of swords

quote:
Author Commentary:

One of the first cards to be made for this deck, the similarity to Monty Python's Black Knight sketch from Holy Grail was completely unintentional. I just wanted a knight figure running away from a different knight figure, with swords on the ground.

But every one who saw the card assumed it was the Black Knight. So I went with it.

Monty Python fan!
