Inspired by a 26 thread that almost went awry ( ) , I thought it would be cool for us to list some concerts we have gone to, what they meant to us, and what the experience left us with. Music, after all, has a very strong connection to our souls...

I'll go first:

One of my first concerts was Dave Matthews at a little club in Boston when I was 12... yup... 12. I was a little hippie-rebel then, all my friends were a lot older than I was, and they let me tag along with them to all sorts of dive bars and clubs (don't even ask me how the heck I got in... I don't even look 13 now) which was cool. It was right after their first LP was done, before they signed to any major label, and they were mostly a jam band at that time, kinda figuring each other out musically, but it was still really cool. That began my love affair (in my head) with Dave. I felt like I had found somebody who truly understood how to put his soul into his fingers and his vocal cords and really give it to the anxious and salivating people listenting. Amazing show, wonderful experience, think I slept in the car on the way back to my friend Mike's apartment, dreaming about 'Seek Up'.

I've got more, but let's see what you've got

Hey thanks Ghani! Great topic.

Well, my first concert was Judy Collins with my mom when I was a young girl. Yeah, rock on!

My first "real concert" was Rancid when they were just coming out. I think I was 15, some friends and I took off to Boston to see them and got grounded when we came back. Totally worth it though, great show.

Fav show was of course, one of the Bob Dylan shows I saw. I've seen him twice. The first time he gave a dissapointing performance but Paul Simon opened and that completely made up for it. The second time I was living in Florida and our neighbor just happened to have an extra ticket and no one to go with. So I lucked out and saw an absolutely awesome show. I feel lucky because I've seen alot of bands that people wont ever get to see again. For example:

The Who
Roger Waters
(both mind blowing shows)
Steve Miller Band
Moody Blues
Jethro Tull
Santana

Who else?.....Beastie Boys, Phish, I worked as a parking attendent for them at the Great Went up in ME. Wasnt a big fan back then, and I'm not a huge fan now. But that was a really fun weekend. Camped out for the weekend saw the shows for free and got paid to work for them.

I know what you mean about Dave Matthews. I saw them a couple of years ago too. Fabulous concert. Hmmmm.....I think there's more.

I would LOVE to someday see the Alman Brothers, Neil Young and Steely Dan.

Who else have you seen?

Sweet! Yeah, I'm jealous, I would have loved to see Roger Waters... and The Who??? You totally suck... j/k

Next concert was 311 in Worchester my Sophomore year... next memorable concert, anyways. I had seen some random bands between, like Spooky Daily Pride and Rustic Overtones, also Rusted Root and Strangefolk. But the 311 show was cool as he11. I saw them in Mass, then that summer in Old Orchard Beach at the ball park, such an amazing show. We drove over in the pouring rain, about 15 of us, and we were right out front. That show was opened by Rustic and DE LA SOUL. De La Freakin' Soul!!! It was farkin' increddible! We moshed all over the place and danced our way through the show. When we were leaving, the field was a mud pit. I had worn my sisters white hoodie, and as we ran to the car, some dude in a bright yellow Tommy jacket splashed mud all over me. I was sooo gonna get in trouble, so I ran after him, put my foot as deep into the mud as I could, and kicked a whole bunch of it onto his jakcet. I laughed all the way to the car... very petty, but I thought it was comeuppance... I was 16, ya know?

Next show was Harry Connick Jr. and his Big Band at the Civic Center in Portland. I went with my mom, she won the tickets for me on a radio station. That was sooo awesome. We were way the heck in the nosebleed section, and he was just a tiny man strutting across the stage, but hearing him croon was the closest thing to the big ''O'' my 16 year old self had experienced. He played piano, sax, trumpet, directed the band, danced, chatted with the audience, and sang his soul out for about 3 hours. Amazing. Love him to this day. Love him. Pi$$ed that he cheated on Grace, though...

More 311 shows, awesome, once we got invited on the bus after the show, as we hung out by the lighting dudes and gave them *ahem* 'cigarettes' all night. Almost shat when I got to touch P-Nut... couldn't even look Nick Hexum in the face, would have passed out, I'm such a dork...

Phish in Portland, two nights in a row.. Phish in Limestone, cool weekend.. too many thoughts and spiritual experiences felt through their music to even grasp right now, but let's just say that I really thought I knew EVERYTHING about the universe when I was 18... haha... how fun it is to grow!

Jurassic 5 at Bowdin College, dancin' queen at that show!! Dave Matthews at the Fleet center (nothing could ever beat that first show, though... only 200 ppl there, now you're lucky to get tickets and share it with 50,000).

Area One festival at the Tweeter Center. Went with my ex-- the Gemini. Had such a wonderful day-evening, we could have gotten married that day, the feeling was so good. We saw The Roots, Incubus, Nelly Furtado, Moby, The Orb, Paul Okenfold and Busta Rhymes at that show. Spent the day in the sun rockin out and drinking beers, went into the dance tents as it got darker and partied in there for a while... danced like we were in the same body, then went up into the back stands, cuddled up under the stars, and watched the light show as Moby performed. Great time... we still talk about it.

Phish in Inglewood, CA... totally not the same, vibe was different, although we met up with some rad kids from Oregon and went to the beach to watch the sunrise... pretty sweet.

Ani Difranco at the Merril in Portland (5th time I've seen her) the night before I went to England. All by herself, lots of poetry, went with a Libra friend of mine who paid for the whole night... we walked from a dive bar called Rosa's about 5 miles in the rain to get to the show, then 5 miles back to Rosa's for another beer and some dinner, then went back to his place, drank Pumpkin beer and listened to Ani's new album... fun.

Most recent show was The Chilli Peppers in Hyde Park in London in June of last year. Poured down with rain... we walked all over creation following a Leo who swore he knew where he was going (even though we obviously walked around in circles ten times). But once we got there, James Brown opened the show, and we danced for two hours straight. It was freeeeezing cold, the brooms were nasty, the food was DISGUSTING, but who cares? John Fruchante did an accapella version of 'Maybe'... Flea was Flea... and Anthony took off his shirt... sweeeeeeeet...

Whoa... I totally went off there... hehe.

Anyways, I freaking love concerts, and hope to see another one VERY soon.

Aahhhh....just took a nice hot shower. Radio's playin' some Janes Addiction. What could be better? Anyway. Wow Ghani!! OOOH! I love Rusted Root! Never seen them though. I have alot of friends that are into Strangefolk, but I dont know them too well. 311 Swweeet, very cool that you "hung out" with them. DE LA SOUL! I'd love to see them. Yes, sweet days of 16.......I had quite the "spiritual awakening" at that Phish show myself. LOL I was quite the Guru back then. Dont know if you've heard of Bonaroo (sp?), I was supposed to go to that show with a bunch of people awhile back. But it was in Tennessee and I couldnt get the time off of work. It sounds alot like the Area One festival. Man I miss my girl Jo who now lives in Mississippi. She was my partner in crime. We've been to alot of show together - wild children we were back in the day. I'm so jealous youve seen the CHILI PEPPERS!! I'd love to see 'em. Sounds like it was a great show. James Brown??? Niiiiice....

I know. I havent been to a concert in awhile. I'm way overdue for one.

angel , "Hammer-time!" That's cool. You've seen some good shows! I missed Ozzfest one year when I had a ticket because once again I couldnt get off of work and the job wasnt worth losing this time. Not a huge fan of that kind of music but wouldve loved to have gone. Cypress Hill?? Awesome!

Okay everyone else, who have you seen? Any old people out there who've seen Janis, Jimi, Zeppelin....?????

I saw Metallica last October for my birthday. I've also been to Aerosmith, Kiss, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Eric Clapton. Also I saw Blue Oyster Cult several years ago when they played at a club a mile from my house. Great times!

I divide my concerts into two catergories.

With my mom when I was a wee youngin:
Rod Stewart:
I was like 5 years old
Jefferson Starship:
Without Grace Slick of course. I was like 14 and some wierd old creepy guy grabbed my butt and my mom almost beat him up.
Steve Miller:
It was at the Minnesota State Fair and he said that it was his last show and he was retiring. Of course he has done a couple tours since then
Wynona Judd and Tim Mcgraw:
I was big into country back then and begged my mom to take me for my birthday. Im so embarrassed...lol.

On my own with Friends:
311:
Ghani, Im jealous that you got to go on their bus. I was an obsessive 311 fan for quite some time. This was my first concert without mommy tagging along so I was stoked. I got to touch Nick Hexum when he stage dove. He is soooo hot!

Matchbox Twenty:
I was 8 months pregnant with my son and I didnt get my tickets soon enough so we had nose bleed seats and had to climb like a million steps (while 8 months prego, lol) But it was well worth it. Their music is so beautiful.

Eve6:
I actually saw eve6 the day after I saw Matchbox twenty so again I was 8 months pregnant. This was a standing room only concert so I couldnt get too close to the stage or else I couldve seriously endangered myself and my child. So I had to stay in back It was still a great concert though and I ended up naming my son after Max Collins, the lead singer of Eve6 because of the experience.

Motorhead and Morbid Angel:
I sold my guitar just so I could afford tickets to this concert because Motorhead is my fiances favorite band. Even though Im not a huge Motorhead fan, it was probably the best concert Ive been too. I know that because when I got home I was so sore and tired and couldnt hear ANYTHING...lol. Plus someone poured their beer on me, on purpose, and I was wearing a white Rancid shirt...so yeah. But I didnt mind because I was extremily hot and that helped cool me off. I was right in front too so Lemmy kept leaning over and singing to me. It was awsome!

Gratitude (up and coming band)

Live (in their hometown!)
NOFX
Green Day
50 Cent (don't ask and it sucked)
Hatebreed (don't like them!)

Prox,
They were doing small club shows on the east coast in 93-94, before and after ''Under the Table and Dreaming'' came out. When I saw them, they were selling ''Remember Two Things'' for like, $10... Still have the tape.

They played at the Limelight in New York City Dave even walked all around the club afterwards although I was too chicken (or too drunk??) to talk to him. hehe!

ghanima81 ~
NIN were great! We saw them play with A Perfect Circle opening a few years ago.

Damn I really do need to go to more concerts, though.

Thats kinda odd Blood because Dave Vanian isnt usually the one who walks around the club, its usually the crazy Captain Sensible himself who likes to walk through the club and introduce himself to fans

Dave freaks me out. But I LOVE The Captain!

I probably wouldn't have noticed CS walking around a club but my boyfriend at the time was a huge fan of Daves so he was the one that pointed Dave out to me in the first place. I was pretty drunk that night (as I often was then) and in my own world.
