Well, I know why I was cramping all yesterday:

I checked for my IUD String in the shower this AM, annnnd NOTHING'S THERE!

WHEEEE!

I'm sure it hasn't just fallen out (ya'd notice something like that, right?), but is now floating around in my uterus. Gah, I hope it's not embedded.
If it is, I think that's enough to shy me away from IUDs in favor of a BC pill.

The Good News: I called into the Army clinic where I have to be seen and I'm getting in at 1 PM! (It's usually a 2-week wait...)

WOW!!!!
You know, I almost got one.. I had the appointment booked and everything..
I am usually good about reproductive procedures, as I know they are necessary... in fact, it's usually the only thing I go to the doctor's for ( true to my sunsign, ruling the nether regions and all)
But I phoned in the day before the procedure, cancelling it.. I broke out into a cold sweat just thinking about it.. I got a panic attack!!!!
It was crazy, such a strong reaction to the idea! So I guess my higher self was telling me something, and I listened.

I hope all is okay, babycakes!!!!
Good thing you got in right away!!!!!
Maybe your Uterus was hungry?
*sory, that was unnecessary and silly*

pixelp - I've had good experiences w/ it up til now (well, except for bleeding for a month after insertion...)

I think that I may go to the generic form of OrthoTri after this, though (generic because I'm in the military health care system and that's what they'll pay for ).

I think that my uterus was hungry, though...the IUD's all jammed up there in the x-ray that I got today...looks like it's being munched on

Bluemoon -
Well, I went to my Post's Army clinic and got seen by a Gyno Nurse Practioner. She examined me (stirrups are fun!) and couldn't find my string, either. She then used a big, long, hurting thing to try to fish it out, after which she said she thought she could feel it, but wanted to refer me out to either the OB/GYN who inserted it for me or to an Emergency Room. My OB starts his weekend at noon on Friday, so she called up to the ER for the hospital at which his practice is on call.
There they did an x-ray; it's still there (which I figured) and out of place, but they couldn't do anything else.
I think that they Nurse Practioner who referred me out of the Army clinic thought that they'd call in the OB/GYN on call, but nope. They said to come back if I start to bleed or cramp terribly, but otherwise to get Lyster to refer me over to my delivering (and inserting) doc for removal of the device.

One question: If it perforates my uterine wall before Monday, who can I sue?

Thanks for being concerned ya two chicas
A pox on the rest of ya

After "The Backyardigans" is over, I'm going to pack Meg up and head back to Enterprise - but to the childbirth area (der, I forgot its actual name...).
There, I'm going to ask to speak to either the OB/GYN on call (if one's there), an OB/GYN Nurse Practioner, or a at least a nurse with knowledge of OB/GYN in order to get some advice.
If no one wants to speak to me, I'll say, "OK, this thing's starting to hurt more - honestly, who can I sue if it perforates my uterus and I'm rendered infertile. You? The ER Doc? I'm genuinely curious."

Because this thing is starting to hurt more.
I'm not a happy camper, and I'll be a flippin' raving camper if it embeds any more deeply or if it punctures something that it shouldn't puncture.

Good luck with that.

I know a girl who had one of those and she never got her moon cycle after getting it. She went to her doctor and he told her that was normal. A while later she saw another doctor who told her that wasn't normal. She got herself checked out and found that the IUD scratched up her insides and now she is completly infertile. It must have been insirted improperly.

I hope everything turns out okay, prox.
The IUD has always scared me. The pill scares me too, for different reasons.. I'm thinking of trying something called natural family planning after this baby is born. http://www.bygpub.com/natural/natural-family-planning.htm

man, i had an iud at one time, and the period cramps disabled me, so had to get rid of it. lived with the rubber cookie for years (diapraghm) and grew to hate it.... the pill is really dangerous cause it messes with your hormones on a body-wide way and has many ramifications long term.... have they made any improvements with the cervical cap? thank god for menopause and I don't have to deal with that crap anymore!!!!!!!

Yes, I'd be curious about the herbs, too. I've done a lot of reading, and have found nothing definitive. Do you refer to Neem and/or pennyroyal?

I'm gonna have to dig that out of my paperwork, pennyroyal Is usually when when you're nervous cause you're late and might be to kind of bring on the period....

you have to do it early enough and in a way its a blessing cause you never really have to feel like you aborted...

I'll look up the ones you use on a regular basis to prevent....

Proxieme,

Wild carrot seed One teaspoonful of the seeds of Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota) is taken daily, starting at the time of ovulation or immediately after unprotected intercoure during the fertile time, and continued for up to one week to prevent pregnancy. Women in Ragasthan, India use cultivated carrot seed in the same way. Reseachers there have found that ingestion of carrot seed by mice prevents the implantion of their fertilized eggs. The seeds are oily and strong tasting, but not bitter or unpleasant. They are easily available for the taking in many areas of the world.
Several species of Wild Carrot are abundant in all parts of America, including city sidewalks, parks and vacant lots. Wild Carrots are not commercially available; if you plan on using cultivated carrot seeds, be absolutely certain they haven't been treated with toxic substances.

thanks solane, that's where I saw that (actually saw that) had to photocopy out the book and it's somewhere :c in that book she also outlines other forms of birth control as such, and I would recommend anyone who wants to try it read the book carefully - doses and indications when you're trying to mess with mother nature (i.e. fertitlity, :rolleyes its tricky business and not always reliable unless you know what you're doing and be consistent :c
