'The Chronicals of Narnia; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' is in cinemas today!!
* http://www.narniaweb.com/
* http://adisney.go.com/disneypictures/narnia/index.html

Anyone else excited about seeing this!?
I loved the book, and really want to see the movie, but will probably wait for a while to see it nearer Christmas and when it'll be (hopefully) less crowded. It looks really good according to the trailers Ive seen, and the lion actually looks very realistic to which is a relief.
Casting appears to be great aswell, including Tilda Swinton as the Witch.
(The only annoying part is the massive merchandising which many people think is way over the top, although I don't know how extreme it is in the US and Europe...)

Anyways, heres some fun piccies:

* White Witch

(Hmm.. dont remember her having dredlocks in the book!!)

* Aslan

it totally sucked! do not watch! i was so dissapointed. i was expecting something like lord of the rings, esp. the visuals. but no. throughout the movie, it didn't explain anything that happened and there were many times when i went "why?" what the heck? get over w/ it already! yeah it was horrible...
Harry Potter was better and I'm looking foward to watching King Kong.

I saw it yesterday, and I'm telling you --It's an instant classic!

To me, it was like they told the director you've got an unlimited supply of money to make this film. Unlike Lord of the Rings, you could rarely distinguish when the scene was purely computer generated. In fact, the only scenes where you might expect that were when people were riding drawn sleighs at high speeds. Otherwise, I thought it was flawless.

I thought the casting was perfect. The kids were tremendous in both the way they looked and in the way they acted.

It really was a stunning movie visually. Everything that needed to be absolutely perfect...was. Just incredible!

Just returned from seeing it.

C.S. Lewis may have been delighted by the "visuals" and acting(who wouldn`t?) but the Spirit of the story was lost

Sad day when visuals & acting take over the Intention. Does anyone read a book anymore?
Sadly, I agree with A.G., it will be an instant (NEW)classic

Well I haven't seen it, but I thought it was great the book was seen in good enough light (so wonderful it was!) to create a movie out of it. I think I read the book like 4 times.

Just a note on my comments:

I was read the books as a child, but I remembered so little I could only assume they left a lot out of the movie. My date said that they didn't explain enough, but I didn't feel that way. I just kind of read between the lines.

I saw it. It was good, but not great.

Without beginning at the beginning, I'm not sure how anyone who hadn't read the books would understand a lot of it. (The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is actually the second book in the series, not the first).

I enjoyed it...but again, it wasn't great.
Parts of it dragged. When watching any Harry Potter film in a theater with children, all is quiet in the audience. But there were several spots in this film where the children were loudly tittering.

I saw it yesterday and I Loved it!
The little girl was Sooooooo cute! Where on earth did they find her? She was so adorable. I want a little girl just like her. Loved her relationship with the faun.
The acting was really good.
Would have liked to see the professor have more of a role in it.
The white witch was really mean looking.

oh boy, I loved it! I just thoroughly enjoyed it! It has been a LONG time ago since I read the book too, but I I felt no magic was lost. (maybe my poor memory though) regaurdless, I thought it was great for what it was... and to me, much better than Harry Potter. FOR ME there was present.

Yay,

I saw it today, and loved it. I never read the books, and I still enjoyed it. All four of the kids were awesome, and the lion. Wow, the lion was magnificent. I wanted to cry when the Lion rose again. Oh yeah, I especially appreciated all the magickal centaurs

Thanks for the info. AG. I found out the little girl's name is Georgie and it was her very first acting job.

Are they going to make other Narnia movies?

I rarely buy movies but I think I will buy this one when it comes out.

Just got Mr. & Mrs. Smith for Xmas! Yippee!

Disney is deliberately promoting this film to the religious - it has appointed Outreach, an evangelical publisher, to promote the Christian message behind the movie in British churches. The Christian radio station Premier is urging churches to hold services on the theme of The Gospel According to Narnia. Even the Methodists have written a special Narnia-themed service. And a Kent parish is giving away £10,000 worth of film tickets to single-parent families. (Are the children of single mothers in special need of the word?)

US born-agains are using the movie. The Mission America Coalition is "inviting church leaders around the country to consider the fantastic ministry opportunity presented by the release of this film". The president's brother, Jeb Bush, the governor of Florida, is organising a scheme for every child in his state to read the book. Walden Media, co-producer of the movie, offers a "17-week Narnia Bible study for children". The owner of Walden Media is both a big Republican donor and a donor to the Florida governor's book promotion - a neat synergy of politics, religion and product placement. It has aroused protests from Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which complains that "a governmental endorsement of the book's religious message is in violation of the First Amendment to the US Constitution".

I really loved the books. I'm not really interested in the move. I don't see how it can be done justice. Perhaps I'll see it on cable sometime.

"Creatures, I give you yourselves," said the strong, happy voice of Aslan. "I give you the woods, the fruits, the rivers. I give you the stars and I give you myself. The Dumb Beasts whom I have not chosen are yours also. Treat them gently and cherish them but do not go back to their ways lest you cease to be Talking Beasts. For out of them you were taken and into them you can return. Do not so."

I loved the books! I am digging them out and reading them once again! The movie was very nice, although books like this are typically far superior than the movies. They did a good job

`Who are you?' said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'
