I have them now!

How do YOU get rid of them? I'll try anything at this point.

You may find this hard to believe....but I can STOP THEM, by merely thinking about it...

....and I'll explain how this came about....

....a few years ago (well, quite a few to be more accurate), a friend and I were having a discussion about mind over matter......

....he told me that it was all baloney and so I said, okay, I'll prove to you that one can make things happen just by thinking strongly enough about them(for some reason feeling VERY confident!).

....It just so happened that I had the hiccups while we were talking and I was so adamant to PROVE myself correct to this "closed-mineded individual," that I proposed to him, that "with my mind" I could make my hiccups stop! To which he said, "Okay PROVE it!"

WITH ALL MY MIGHT AND WILL - I TOLD MYSELF THE HICCUPS WERE GOING AWAY RIGHT THAT VERY MINUTE.....

....AND THEY DID!!! (actually, much go my surprise! )

...and I couldn't help but gloat a little over my triumphant feat (all the while, being a bit on the amazed side, myself)....but was then told by him, that it was just a coincidence....

I couldn't automatically get the hiccups again just to prove him wrong....(he was so closed-minded that he would have denied it, had I done it anyway...)

But the thing is - I have found that ever since that incident....I am able to stop them the minute I get them....

(Kinda makes me feel like Samantha, or Jeannie, sometimes!)

True Story...

Love,
Rainbow

Wow, Rainbow - so true. Mind over matter. Hiccups are so annoying, but if you can stop them just willing it so, then you can will almost anything. The bigger the thing, the more concentration required, obviously.

But stopping hiccups is a good example of that.

My hiccups stopped on their own, finally btw

The way to stop them is to tell the person who has them
"Tell me just before the next one comes...."
In a sense., it is the same as Rainbow's... they think about it, and then it never comes.

This method never fails.
Good party trick.

You can stop them by thinking about it? Gosh I want hiccups now!

I would eat a spoon of peanut butter. I've never tried it, but I heard it works.

Also you can hold your breath with your mouth open for ten seconds. That usually works for me

A spoonful of peanut butter does work. But then again, so does a glass of water-take your pick!

I hold my breath. I inhale deeply.

It always works with me. When a kid has it I scare the crap out of them. gets them all the time.

My dog always gets hiccups in the a.m. when waking up, or during/after naps.

Yang I was gonna say the peanut butter thing, but you already did.

My kids' Kindergarten teacher (they both had the same teacher) told me about it.

Neato... I've found it works better than chugging a glass of water. PLUS, I peanut butter!!

Next time I'm going to try willing them away like Rainbow!

.. can't remember the last time i had them .. but once .. a friend showed me how to drink water .. but in a way that was somehow 'upside own' .. it worked a treat 'n right fast .. somehow one drank from the opposite side of the glass .. head down ... .... tried it once again years later .. couldn't figure it .. .. peanut butter sounds loads better ..

i've heard hiccups are caused by the diaphragm getting 'stuck' in a raised position.....the hiccup spasms are an attempt to press the diaphragm back down, thats why holding a deep breath often helps.....

so i take a deep breath into my chest and then 'press' it down (i dont know how else to describe this action) into my belly, this works almost everytime for me....
