Found in my 9yo son's school folder today:

If we didn't have birthdays, you wouldn't be you.
If you'd never been born, well then what would you do?
If you'd never been born, well then what would you be?
You might be a fish! Or a toad in a tree!
You might be a doorknob! Or three baked potatoes!
You might be a bag full of hard green tomatoes!
Or worse than all that.....
Why you might be a WASN'T.
A Wasn't has no fun at all. No he doesn't.
A Wasn't just isn't. He just isn't present.
But you..... You ARE YOU!
And now isn't that pleasant?

That's great! I had no idea that Dr. Seuss wrote that! I loved (and still love) all the Dr. Seuss stories!
When we come and go from our house, my dog waits in the window and watches us. It always reminds me of the children in Cat in the Hat when it rained and they sat in the window looking outside.

Thanks for sharing that! I loved it! Been so long since i've read anything by Dr S. This one really spoke to me and fits in with my learnings as of late. Been feeling a little uncomfortable in my own skin for awhile now and this poem says to snap the heck out of it in a playful way! Thanks again

`Who are you?' said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'
