So often my thoughts lately have turned to the fate of this species. Stephen Hawking believes that if we are to survive that we must leave the Earth. I find this to be saddening, but at the same time it unfortunately resonates with me. I see the potential for human kind to live in harmony with nature and eachother. Building clean, efficient cities, that mimic and integrate with the natural environment. Every building full of solar panels, all cars running on clean burning fuel, people working because they want to, not because they need to to survive. But this vision is waning in my mind, I see that the Earth is being trashed, and people are waking up to this reality far too slowly. In my mind I see smog, pollution, fires, nuclear fallout, and pestilence. I'm trying to hold on to and manifest this vision of utopia however, but the more time goes on the weaker its presence in my mind seems to become. Can we turn this train around or is it too late?

maybe we might have to go on a different planet. maybe we will. but there is no way we will face extinction. we are the most evolved and on the edge.

it might be that we evolve into a still higher species like we did from apes to humans.

BR,

I think we can turn it around. I seriously do. I am going to try.

BUT, I also think that the way things are going now, it is not going to happen. I think we need a jolt to wake us up. And I believe that the jolt will come soon. Nothing too cataclysmic, but sort of a rude wake up call.

So yes, I don't feel that despondent. Try to think along these lines, and see if your vision becomes clearer ?? Don't let that vision fade!! Hold on to it, think of scenarios where it might just come true. But don't let your hope die.

Short and sweet, there are many communities that could evolve into something like the world you'd like to see. They're unsung and seemingly hidden everywhere, even in major cities. Many of them are able to survive off the grid.

That's important. I'm certain that eventually, much of the infrastructure of the world, including the US of A, is going to fall hard. Those dependent on government and big business to supply their needs are going to be SOL. And the survivors and refugees will likely migrate to these new communities.

And the trauma will be enough to change humanity. See, humans are critters of habits. In general, we don't want change, not even for the better. Change is like death. Even violent abuse is better than peace and respect if violent abuse is what we're accustomed to. It generally takes hitting rock bottom before changing, and I think that this is what will happen.

Unfortunately, "Aquarian dreamers" aren't the only ones out there. There are others also capable of living off the grid and they'd gladly lead this world into a new dark age (and are already trying and seeming to have more success than the more enlightened crowd). So ultimately, IDK. But I think there's cause for hope... and that the future will probably wind up somewhere between those 2 extremes you see.

Another thing is last summer during the heat wave, I and a few others turned off our power to stave off brownouts so that the hospital, old folks home, etc, and others wouldn't suffer. WE thought it was futile, but we were one of the only counties without a brown out. It seems that there were many others doing the same thing we were doing, and we dind't know each other. The moral being that you may be far less alone than you think...and on a social scale, there may be far more alternative communities ready for new societies to develop around them once the SHTF and the current society dies (probably dies suddenly and violently at that).

Dervish, it is pretty intereting what you say there. And i like the idea of making small contributions, no matter how small they may seem.

except for one troublesome bit....wht did u mean by 'Aquarian Dreamers' ?

(hehe, can't u guess i hv something in aquarius)

"Aquarian dreamers" was a word I borrowed from Robert Anton Wilson (it might've been "Aquarian conspirators"). It wasn't meant so much astrologically as it was about people who envision a newer world, one free of modern and historical sensibilities (that we know of) that reveres life (in its many forms) and the individual.

I find the world truly loopy. But I try to enjoy life, if only for the hell of it.

I just wish there wouldn't be so much rubbish circulated...as in the arts, music, news, scientific research etc.

If we can produce something to a high standard, and with genuine integrity, living is worthwhile. If not, we might just as well bury our heads in the sand.

And George Burns Played "GOD" in movies!
No way of knowing what future sapient life on Earth will look like.
Evolution does crazy things!
I doubt it will look human as we know it now.

The human bioform can indeed go extinct.
The human species has only existed for a mere blip of time when compared to other species who did indeed go extinct.
do not delude yourselves into believing that mankind's bioform is immune.

We are a really STRANGE bioform though aren't we?

We can do almost everything that other animals can do, and more!

We can't change colour (OK, well maybe not YET, and not naturally) like giant squids. We can't bioluminesce.

Or do so many things that other animals do, without a battery of mechanical aids.

This may seem obvious, BUT....
