Finally after years of $5.15 the Federal MW goes up on Tuesday to $5.85.
Some states have not waited for the lobbyist pressured Feds to act and have raised the MW themselves. NC for instance raised to $6.15 in Jan.
Do you know your states rate? If you don't find out and post it please. I would appreciate all replies. Sure I can find this out on my own. You would be amazed how many Americans do not know the answer.
I could go on a long rant now [feel me] but will take pity on you as it's a beautiful Sunday morning!
So- post your rate! - And BTW, *deleted* [my state] raised in deleted to 6.15 and I didn't know that

Here in the Arid zone minimum wage went up to $6.75. A bit too much for the poor mom and pop shops.

Yes Spryt as in most things the 'little guy' bears much of the burden. I don't think CE O's of multi-billion dollar corporations will take a pay cut to 'even out' the money distribution.
I work in the "Hospitality" industry. Restaurants. They are one of the biggest and loudest nay sayers to increasing the MW. They show a track record of losses in revenue and jobs every time the wage increases. For some independents not bolstered by the strength in a "chain" this is the the straw on the camels back. Restaurants go out of business because of this. People loose jobs. Even in an industry largely comprised of part time workers [to avoid monetary expenditures for health care, unemployment ins etc.] this is big stuff.
But the fact is this: In the 'richest' country in the world the MW worker based on the 52 WK gross income is 2,000 dollars away from the poverty level as prescribed by the IRS.

Hi Node! It is known as both a privilege to work tax. or an occupational tax. it ranges from $10.00 to $52.00 dollars depending on which community you work in Pennsylvania. And it comes out of the first paycheck of the year.

Currently Alaska is at $7.15/hr. I looked thru our states website to see if there were any news/press releases stating a future increase due to the rise of the federal minimum wage but didnt see anything. Usually with a raise in Federal minimum wage, the state will up thiers as well.

Hi Lotus: The Boston Globe reported in today's edition that NH goes from $5.15 to $6.50 on Sept. 1. With the next raise in '08 as you mentioned.
