By that token I believed when I was strong and athletic that I was disabled and so got injured? I believed I should get raped as a child? So it happened? Uh Huh. My sister who was finally getting her life on track, happy, healthy and very optimistic, wanted to be run down by a van, dragged 100 feet, and to suffer for 4 hours fully conscious only to die on a helicopter? 
I detest the sideways skewed outlook the course teaches. It promotes an attitude that it is always a person's fault when misfortune befalls them. What a terrible cruel burden to foist upon others! This is akin to the attitude of sin causes disease, an attitude which made folks outcasts down through time.

Hi SS ~I haven’t looked into A Course In Miracles, so am unacquainted with the precepts, but I agree with this statement: quote:

But I don’t think I “feel” this chicken/egg statement in a “physical” or “event-oriented” way: quote:

Along the lines of Fayte’s example, after my *experience* with my ex, I *believed* that all men would just hurt me. My experience determined what I believed. But they didn’t all hurt me, in fact none have since that time, so I’ve revised my belief (or returned it to the condition it was in before I met him).
“What you first of all believe is what you will experience” could be applied to people who walk across hot coals and believe they will not be injured – and in this case of mind over matter, it works.
I believe in the power of PMA – Positive Mental Attitude….. I believe there is a Dark Side to everything and probably nearly everyone, but that doesn’t mean I want to spend my waking hours there. I smile at strangers in the grocery store because we’re all in class here at SchoolRoom Earth, and possibly my inconsequential little gesture of warmth helped someone feel better about their day.
“Experiences do not determine what you believe” – perhaps I’m intellectually lazy, but I think that they do.

Peri Thank you.{{{HUGS}}}I have seen too many folks follow the course and ruin their lives.
One friend believed in it so much that he believed that it was "incorrect thought" which caused his heart troubles. He stopped his treatment, begain to hang out with younger folks because they were not sickly and would not transfer their negativity onto him.
He was dead 6 months later.
Another friend has cut all disabled folks out of his life and quit his job caring for the mentally handicapped. Why? Because by the course's ideas, it is their fault and he must avoid such folks to whom misfortune has fallen because their incorrect thoiught is toxic and they deserve their lot in life.
When bad things happen to him he says the past does not matter, even when he does something stupid, he denies it and claims he believes he is free and believes he is immortal because after all he never wants to get ill, old or die. Well he sure forgot our now dead mutual friend who believed in the course! Oh, yeah, but our friend he said did not have enough faith!
The man was a minister!
So is he.
I have more stories of how the course has brainwashed folks ointo shunning others and ruining their own lives. ------------------

A positive outlook is great! I employ such everyday!
But denial and rose colored glasses are not optimism or acceptance, or positive thoughts!
Experience is a strict and sometimes harsh teacher but those who face their adversities and learn and can still be optimistic about life and the future, have definitely learned!

WOOO CALL THE DOGS OFF!!!!!!It's only one sentence phase, quoted by A Course of miracles, it's not their whole freaking believe system that their referring to here. LORD KNOWS where they got that one from????? I happen to like that one quote my s-ELF!!! It's not like I've signed up or anything!!! It's one quote!!! These quotes are just posted to give the reader some positive words & thoughts, to help encourage some ways of " BALANCE " in ones life!!! Fayte I'm here to contribute & share only some of the things that life has taught me. That have either worked already for me or that are still being worked on in PRESENT!!! I think it is already well known that you don't agree with my ways of thinking or thoughts on such topics of inner believes that I share here. QUITE APPARENT!!!! This is what I feel and it works for me, I don't always need you reminding me how this doesn't work for you and others!!! I would APPERICATE it, if you would just back off. Stop pooing on alot of my posts & trying to bring me down!!! Now there's a POSITIVE THOUGHT!!! Idea!!! No need to defend your thoughts & feelings on this matter, there already QUITE CLEAR!!! Thanks for the message, Solane. I think the Course holds a powerful message, though it's definitely not for the layman. Most people are not ready to swallow this message and still think "things" just happen to them and "others" and dont fully understand the nature of their ego/mind and why things APPEAR to happen. They get caught up in their stubborn beliefs about "reality" and "karma" etc. and this then cannot fit or sit well with them (their egos). What's interesting is that it falls right in line with the teachings of Yoga (God union) and many other religions teachings. It's a ...somewhat of a different approach to the same Truth.
It's really beautiful when you see this. It's interesting too, to hear people's views who detest the book and it's teachings. And who actually Hears it and why? Alot of people are misguided by stories theyve heard from others or by how they have percieved these others and their actions, lives, who were students of the Course. Thinking they know better about how someone's experience is supposed to be or go. Or have just plain misread it's message. Most have not even bothered to read it or started to and their ego's got in the way and said 'absolutely not!'. No judgement there. Everyone is right where they need to be. No one is ahead of or behind in this game....and if you were open to this material you would know why. lol
Maybe you already do. It is not a book for people who dont want to take a really hard look at themselves, their lives, belief systems and the world they see - their so called reality and circumstances in a radically different way. Not a quick or easy read either. After finishing the book, most people choose to do the year-long workbook exercises. Sorry, not trying to convert or insult anyone !! Really. I just see the Course in a very good light, think it could help ALOT of people, and wanted to speak up. Dont want to argue or debate with anyone. I see no reason why it is wrong to tell another side of things if
I have experienced or seen it. What I wrote is true and it deeply saddened me. I saw two of several folks I know ruin their lives because of such teachings. I am sorry that upsets you but it happened. It is reality even if you detest it.
I did not say it was not for you. Do your own thing by all means. If you look at your Joy thread you will see I can and do agree with you from time to time. Are you banning me and commanding me to not reply on your threads just because I have a different outlook?
Why are you so afraid of another point of view? You do not have to do things my way.
I would not tell you to stay out of my threads.

I take harder looks at myself and life than most folks I know. Zala and Mirandee both know me well and know I can and do look at other ways and take hard looks at myself and they are such wonderful friends that they love me enough to be radically and brutally honest with me.
I did read it. Yes there was some good in it but alot is there to cause the kind of behaviour of the folks I mentioned.
It does sound like you believe anyone who does not fully embrace the teachings of the course is of a lower spiritual caliber and as you said, "not ready".
That is simply untrue. The course is not the end all to be all no more than any other religion, cult or trendy belief system. Yes, just like any belief system, it has good things but also many things that can cause folks to go astray.
One form does not fit all but that does not mean they are not spiritually evolved or unready.

Mirandee and I get into some heavy talks about her views on Christianity and my views of non Christian. We continue to be very good friends! We still believe differently but have learned alot from each other and will continue to do so! ------------------

GOOD, because I don't throw my OPINION down on you or differ with your thoughts or threads, DO I????????????????? I don't have the time to go around just throwing my opinions off!!! Starts to look alot like Judgement calls again to me!!! I told you it hurts my feelings, so why even bother, is it that important to you that you can't just jump around my posts & threads, without always having something to say about it!!! There's lots of other people here you can go and bug!!! I don't care for your way of thinking and dealing with life And others and I don't have too, so WHY BOTHER FAYTE!!! I only told of my experience and views on the issue of the course.
I did not direct anything at you personally.
It was directed at the course and its effects I have observed in some.
Your digs are directed at me personally, and you have yelled and made demands and become rather angry. I was not angry at you at all. I was simply stating "my" opinion of "the course", not you or your success you feel you have had with it.
If you feel I am specifically following you around, you are being paranoid.
