Hi Mirandee: Your extensive list [thank you!] brought my eyebrow up. D.C. is represented as a Zero in defective/neglected design/maintenance. No representation of similar design....but. Knowing D.C. well, and it's many bridges [relative to size] I thought for sure even given the fact that one would think the nations capitol would take care of their own with regards to where the money goes I am finding that agenda driven reporting presents conflicting information. And isn't that the case with most reporting. Thought you might be interested in this article. I found it very amusing that they compare numbers of bridges in a state without including the relative size of a state. For instance comparing R. Island to Texas. And they say that NV & AZ are the safest but, in such arid states the number of bridges is much lower. RI is also 'reported' to be in the unsafe state category. If your interested............................................................ http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3440879&page=1 ..................... ......P.S. It will be interesting to see the DOT report IP: Logged |

Thank you for that article, Node. It was very interesting. I am not sure how many bridges we have in Michigan but since we have a coastline here that equals the coastline running from Maine to end of Florida and a lot of inland lakes and rivers we have a lot of bridges. In certain states such as Arizona which are arid as you say, they could still have a lot of bridges when you consider that bridges do not always span water but also span canyons and mountains. Which can be even scarier to cross than waterways. Some of those bridges are very high up. I think in the mountains all the roads are one big long bridge. Seems that way in certain places at least. Michigan has what seems to be the worst roads in the country so that does not give me much confidence in the soundness of our bridges. Still waiting for the list naming the bridges that have same structure as the one in Minnesota. Must be a long list. Especially in Ohio. I am sure I have been across a few of those bridges in Ohio. And yes, will be very interesting to see that DOT report if in fact they are honest about it which is slim to nill. Love that prayer chain picture, Sattvic. I saved it. IP: Logged |

Mirandee: Good point about the mountain bridges. My family tree includes a relative that worked on the Truckee Railroad bridge. H- Sierras......if you want a look at a seemingly impossible bridge Google that one! And yes, this is the Truckee [hope I'm spelling it right] that the Donner party used to get to CA...and subsequently cannibalized each other....but that's another story.IP: Logged |
