Question...........Would any of you ladies be jealous if you boyfreind was out of town and went to a restaurant to see a belly dancer? A freind of mine asked me that question this morning and I am not sure how to answer it. I have never seen a belly dancer in person. she claims is like going to see a stripper, its this true? Not a lady Lol! But I'll give this one a go: quote: she claims is like going to see a stripper, its this true?
Not... even... close (unless the belly dancer decides to do the "dance of the seven veils." LOL!) Sure there is the erotic factor to the dance but one can say the same thing about the tango . Now obviously it depends upon where he went and what the group he was with requested from the dancer but overall, don't feat about it. IP: Logged |

NO!!!Bellydancers are awesome!!! Aspire to study someday myself and have seen these beautiful ladies in action!!! They are not the often drugged-out skinny, skanky "dancer" types....these ladies actually are often full figured, they are afterall "belly" dancers and have to have something to shake!!! They are common at Greek restaurants. The last one I saw was in a Greek restaurant and she was quite curvy, not slutty or skanky at all! Dressed beautiful and exotic she danced around the tables enticing women and men of all ages into her magical realm... I LOVE belly dancers!!! IP: Logged |

Belly Dancing is an art. Stripping is not. Doesn't take much talent to take your clothes off and hang on a pole. Takes talent to belly dance. I agree that it is not even close to stripping. Even in the dance of the seven veils it is only the veils that are removed. Not the clothes. I would not be jealous for that reason. But then again I would not be jealous should my husband watch a stripper. I would just think he went weird on me all of a sudden. LOL IP: Logged |

No, I wouldn't be jealous. I'm kind of a jealous person, as much as I hate it, but I wouldn't mind at all. I'm not like, insane with jealousy, but when I think I have a right to be, it festers inside me. lol I even told my boyfriend it was ok to go see strippers for his birthday. He didn't go, but I wouldn't have cared if he had. The only thing I really get jealous of is when I think he's scoping out other women for something a bit more serious than paying them to see them strip. IP: Logged |

As a professional belly-dancer, I can say that I find your comparison of our ancient and noble calling to "stripping" rather offensive!IP: Logged |

Ok so we have everyone who doesn't think the belly dancer thing is a problem and one who does. I told my freind Kelly I am doing this survey on line so anymore comments on this would be great!ps-Johnny..I didn't compare belly dancing with stripping. I personally have never gone to see either so I couldn't even address that! IP: Logged |

I don't think it would bother me that much either, though I'd rather he watch me bellydance (I've learned! A couple years ago, my guy did accompany some of his friends to a place where some women were practising, but we weren't together at the time, and I found that I was only mildly jealous; he only got into it later on because of me though. It's just another form of dance, a far cry from stripping or exotic dancing, and several Middle-eastern restaurants offer this now as a form of entertainment.. nothing to worry about. *shimmying out* Sunshine IP: Logged |

And I do gotta add, if the bf were to be so very keen about going to watch bellydancing, it might make me jealous too. I'm with dt-gemini on that one. If he's showing undue interest in someone in particular, that's definitely a red flag.I guess it didn't bother me when my guy went, because he was just mildly curious about it at the time, and didn't seem so taken with it until I started shimmying. What's wrong w/ a man appreciating the aesthetic beauty of a woman belly dancing? Would people get jealous if their bf/hubs loved to look at renaissance nudes, Rubens, Boticcellis, etc? To me, it's pretty much the same thing. The bellydancer doesn't take off her clothes...and like Mirandee pointed out, it takes training and dedication, unlike hanging on a pole in only a thong. I find it to be actually normal and healthy for a man to enjoy watching something like that. I mean really, a guy who says, "oh yeah I never look at other women, now that I've met you, any desire and appreciation I had for the female form (other than yours dear) is gone." Yeah right. As far as men going to see strippers...that just makes me laugh. If men want to torture themselves by watching naked women who wouldn't touch them w/ a ten foot pole dance..on a pole...lol...well, it seems to me to be an extremely expensive replacement for porn. They get ..um.. surprisingly good ..um.. yeah, that's it!! Just watch... Sunshine IP: Logged |

It isn't really like seeing a stripper. Like said before the difference between that and stripping is that bellydancing is actually a real art.But just like the strip club situation, if he goes WAY too often solely for the erotic aspect and it bothers your friend that much then there's definitely a problem. I know I'd have a problem if my bf went to see bellydancers every weekend. That's when I would get jealous like that.

I agree with Dulce Luna... going to see belly dancing (even stripping for that matter) is ok by me as long as it is not a regular thing. Once in a blue moon affair, sure. I'd love to see a male stripper too.

I spoke to my freind about this and got more details........She said that he went to see a belly dancer once before and asked her to take classes in belly dancing which she did for 6 weeks. He even bought her belly dancing music. She is upset because she doesn't understand why he had to go see belly dancers when he has his own little belly dancer at home IP: Logged |
