I don't know where you are, but gang killings over skin color and other such inherited traits and lineages typically don't see it as "playing god." Rather, they're more inclined to see it as "executing justice." Granted, be it some local gang or a nationalistic movement, there will be opportunists, sociopaths, and even sadists who care nothing at all about justice. But I think the majority of them see themselves as somewhat justified, recalling abuse that was done to them and theirs, loved ones brutalized, terrorized, and murdered. It can get especially complicated at times. For example, some of Mongolian descent look with hostility to some of the major Chinese races (they define race a lot differently than many of us in the west do), and it's from the mix of Chinese gangsters and Chinese businesses and buildup of the Chinese military (and repressing Mongolian peoples like the Khalkans in Chinese territory). This has given rise to Mongolian rap bands that preach hatred--and murder--against the Chinese in general, both in Mongolia and in China itself. And some aren't into killing and may even have ethical standards that prevent violence save in self-defense or at least extreme circumstances that many of us could at least sympathize with a little. But even so, due to issues of survival, tribalism, and loyalty, they will look the other way or support the violence on the side. Cops and soldiers also do this, turning a blind eye to what some of their more vicious members do, though they are otherwise decent people. I've also met Russian Orthodox that hate Catholics because of injustices done against them centuries ago. And even many white supremacist sects fight against each other, seeing themselves as the "real white power." Just out of curiosity, what country are you in? Two things to think about...
