Good point, LTT the intention for posting the picture was good.

I can only speak for myself but I was not implying that you were not a happy person because you perceived the picture differently, Fayte and I only responded because it was brought up twice on the thread. I did take time to look over the picture and I acknowledged what you saw.

Whatever an artist has in mind when he paints a picture is not necessarily the way those viewing his painting is going to perceive it or interpret what they are looking at. Perception comes from within the minds of all of us and we are all different in how we perceive things. For that reason there is no wrong and right in how each of us interpreted and perceived the painting.

When I first looked at the painting I did not even see the electric chair and I did not perceive resignation in her face, but instead contentment. I gave my interpretation as I saw the painting. As did Sattvic. Both of us mentally eliminated the negative things in the picture and noticed only the positives. There are both negative and positives in that painting. Our eyes and focus on certain objects in paintings are a reflection of our state of mind at this time.

Right now I'm thinking positively about life so that is naturally what my eyes focused on in the painting. If next week I should have negative feelings or thoughts and see this picture for the first times my eyes and focus might be on the negatives in the painting. Our state of mind, how we are feeling and what we are thinking does affect our view of life and our perception. But that does not denote that am an overall happy person anymore than it does that you are an unhappy person overall. It just denotes the way we may be feeling on a particular day or week. That's what I think anyway. So no, I do not think that you are an overall unhappy person. Just that you might be having negative thoughts and feelings at this time that are directing your focus.

I do see what you are saying and when you mentioned the electric chair and the word happy being in blood I noticed them. Because life has it's negatives and positives and I do acknowledge the negatives in life along with the positives. So I see your point. But then by choice I choose to not dwell on the negative, accept it for what it is and still keep my focus on the positive because mentally that is where I am at this time in my life.

I did not notice the flaming "I" over the woman's heart until Sattvic pointed it out and gave his perceptions about that. So we all saw different things in that painting. And we are all right because our interpretation of the painting is how we saw it at this time. I definitely see the things in the painting that you saw and agree that they are negative. But whether we judge the whole painting as negative is our choice. Same as if we do that with life based on how we are feeling at any given time. When we are having negative feelings we tend to see life in a negative way. But when we are having positive feelings we have a positive feeling about life in general. Does not mean that life in general is all negative because we feel as we do on any given day. Doesn't mean that life is all positive either when we are feeling positive. Life is both. Just as this painting is both. But where are focus is directed in life does have a lot to do with our emotions and feelings on any given day.

I guess that is why it is good when we are feeling negative to try to think of something positive that lifts our spirits because our spirits are lifted when we are thinking positively and our spirits are down when we are thinking negatively. Since we are in control of our feelings we can redirect our focus because we can redirect our feelings.

Don't know if that made any sense. It's late and I'm tired. But I wanted to respond and let you know I do not feel that you are an overall unhappy person because you saw things in the painting differently than we did. I am sorry if anything I said seemed to imply that. We just perceived it differently and that's okay.

I didn't notice those things either. I think that's because I noticed the picture as a whole rather than the details. I think some people have more of an eye for detail

"Go look folks.
The artist who did that painting was not thinking anything of that kind.
The artist is very into anti-Christian imagery, and very deranged and psychotic imagery.

disturbing.
Look here before you imply I am not happy because I saw no happiness in that picture....
and rethink why anyone would find it a positive image.

Yeah, those pictures are CRAZY! I like this picture, Aqua:

Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year....
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep. ~Robert Frost

Thank you. However I now respectfully point out, you did imply that in these following 2 statements
quote:
Our eyes and focus on certain objects in paintings are a reflection of our state of mind at this time.
quote:
Just that you might be having negative thoughts and feelings at this time that are directing your focus.
Please do not assume you know my state of mind is the reason I saw the picture as unhappy. Being previously familiar with that artist's work...I knew his images were of a psychotic and unhappy nature. See his other art work at the links I posted. It had nothing to do with my state of mind.
quote:
Our state of mind, how we are feeling and what we are thinking does affect our view of life and our perception. But that does not denote that am an overall happy person anymore than it does that you are an unhappy person overall. It just denotes the way we may be feeling on a particular day or week. That's what I think anyway. So no, I do not think that you are an overall unhappy person. Just that you might be having negative thoughts and feelings at this time that are directing your focus.
Again please do not assume you know my state of mind. My offline ordeal has not left me in a negative state of mind.
Neither was being attacked here at LL affecting the way I viewed the picture. I have seen that artist's other work and judged it on that premise of what he had intended.
I have been able to stay upbeat and optimistic despite unwanted changes. I see no reason to be unhappy. And certainly nothing that would influence my analysis of a painting. Again, thank you for replying <3, but I respectfully ask you not to assume you know whether I am happy or not. And a suggestion...please do take it as combative....look at it again please, and ask why you would ignore the ugliness in the picture. Seeing good is noble but wearing rose colored glasses to shield or filter out the bad is not seeing the whole picture as it really is. Sometimes reality is not pretty. But seeing reality as it is does not have anything to do with one's state of mind.

I think it was very perceptive of you, fayte that you noticed.

I didn't see those things either at first, until you pointed them out. I just saw the picture as a whole. I think other people didn't notice them either because they were not at all familiar with the artist.

I think that this is a good reminder for us all that it is best not to make assumptions about what other people are thinking. I know it's only human to make judgments, but with time and practice these things can eventually be overcome

Thank you! And to add a point to the quote below........stop making assumptions about what folks are feeling too.

I suppose, as I have Saturn, Jupiter and Mars in my 8th house I can also relate to this very well:

quote:
Seeing good is noble but wearing rose colored glasses to sheild out the bad is not seeing the whole picture as it really is. Sometimes reality is not pretty. But seeing reality as it is does not have anything to do with state of mind.

I think something similar was said on the happy people thread in Universal Codes, which we all seemed to agree!

They are this now.

You're my Best Friend
by Queen

Oooh, you make me live
Whatever this world can give to me
It's you, you're all that I see
Oooh, you make me live now honey
Oooh, you make me live

Oooh, you're the best friend that I ever had
I've been with you such a long time
You're my sunshine
And I want you to know
That my feelings are true
I really love you (oooh)
Oh, you're my best friend

Oooh, you make me live
Oh, I've been wondering round
Still come back to you (still come back to you)
In rain or shine
You've stood by me girl
I'm happy at home (happy at home)
You're my best friend

Oooh, you make me live
Whenever this world is cruel to me
I got you to help me forgive (ooh, ooh, ooh)
Oooh, you make me live now honey
Oooh, you make me live

Oh, you're the first one
When things turn out bad
You know I'll never be lonely
You're my only one
And I love the things
I really love the things that you do
Oh, you're my best friend

Oooh, you make me live, live, live, live

I'm happy, happy at home
You're my best friend, oh
Oh, you're my best friend

Ooh, you make me live (ooh, ooh, ooh)
Ooh, you're my best friend
