The sex chromosomes are one of the 23 homologous pairs of human chromosomes. The X chromosome spans more than 153 million base pairs (the building material of DNA) and represents about 5% of the total DNA in women's cells, 2.5% in men's.Each person normally has one pair of sex chromosomes in each cell. Females have two X chromosomes, while males have one X and one Y chromosome. Just to clarify. But like I said, I am no expert and was just giving a thought on it from something I read. If the Y chromosomes are vanishing wouldn't that mean that we are all evolving into women? Horrible thought for us women who like men. We do what comes natural for us from birth. That was also my answer to the question of why I am not gay, which I feel is a dumb question for straight people to ask gay people to begin with. Why are any of us the way we are in any respect? We are born that way. It's a fair question for BR to ask straight people because it is often asked to gays. Were I gay I would probably answer sarcastically "because I deliberately wanted to choose a lifestyle which I knew I would be persecuted all my life for and be asked stupid questions like the one you just asked." Why are some people of different races? It amounts to the same type of questioning about our sexual preferences and attractions. Even with both gays and straight people we are not attracted to the same physical qualities in our mates. We have preferences as to what appeals to us and what doesn't. Homosexuality has been around since the beginning of creation. So it can't be abnormal except according to what society itself deems normal and abnormal. And when you look around and see in our society today what IS considered normal who wants that anyway? Would prefer to be considered abnormal. IP: Logged |

Male babies of mothers who have previously given birth to boys are more likely to be gay, so says a study I saw on tv a while back.IP: Logged |

LOL AG I probably would make a better girlfriend, me and my two spirit self. Mirandee that is a great sarchastic reponse, I will have to use that one later. Something happens with testosterone or another hormone..there are elevated levels of testosterone during a male pregnancy, I believe the theory is that something happens with the mothers immune system, that it might possibly attack the 2nd male child in utero. This is a phenomenon seen across most mammals and as well all know, penguins. IP: Logged |

Nope! The Y chromosome in humans lost genes as it evolved, but some scientists have recently calculated that it has not lost any genes for 6 million years. During evolution, though, it was pared down to only 27-100 active genes. The X chromosome has over 1,000 active genes. Even if the Y chromosome were to disappear - it has happened in several species, so it wouldn't be too unusual for it to happen in humans, btw - sex determination would be absorbed by the X chromosome. A few years ago, there were some discoveries about the X chromosome. The X chromosome in women has a unique pattern not present in men, and vice versa. Women only have one X chromosome activated, but it's random so about half the cells have one X chromosome active and the rest have the other X chromosome active. In a study last year, mothers of at least two gay sons were found to have the exact same lineup of genes and active/inactive X chromosomes. LOL HSC We have free will. We are not free to choose our genetic make-up. It's sort of pot luck in the gene pool. Soul wise we are all the same. IP: Logged |

And, no, its not another topic. Its the very thing we are discussing. Gay people are abused because people believe there is a free choice involved, when, in actuality, there is no such thing. The more honest we are with ourselves, and the closer we look at it, the more we come to see that it is a natural occurence. This process is not unique to sexual orientation. It has been, and will continue to be, repeated in many areas of life, as more and more people are liberated from unreasoning judgments. Everyone we persecute is in the same boat. Everyone we judge or punish. No judgement, no condemnation, is any more defensible than the condemnation of gay people. I've expressed my view.

I am just trying to be sensitive to BR's wishes that we don't get off onto the topic of Free Will here on his thread. Even if it is spiraling in thought and I both understand and like that, HSC. Your point about it tying into the topic I feel is a very valid one. You have point, HSC and I have an opinion on that point but BR said "abort, abort" and in saying that he expressed a wish that his thread here not turn into a debate about Free Will and I think we should respect his wishes on his thread. If you want to start a thread with your thoughts regarding gays and free will I would be happy to share my opinion on that thread with you, HSC. As I'm sure others would too. But here I am going to respect BR's wishes. IP: Logged |

Bright Star, in answer to your question, no I don't think that makes her either crazy or bi-sexual. I am a girl, never been an overly feminine type girl, I look like a girl but it wouldn't have bothered me at all to be a guy. Mostly because I think men and women are the same in the soul and we have the same hopes, dreams and aspirations. I take it on a human level. Not a gender level. I was always a bit of a tomboy as a child and teen. That was due to my older brother. I loved to play baseball with the guys and was one of the few they allowed to play the game with them because I played the game like a guy, not like girl. I could hit homeruns and field as good as any of the guys. I had a lot of male friends who were just friends as a teen. It was nothing to see me walking down the street with a group of guys. Unusual for my time but I am happy to see it is not unusual at all for girls to do that these days. I also dated guys and kissed them and have never been bi-sexual in nature. I like guys in all respect. I am happy that I am a woman but would have been just as happy being a man. Long as I am human. I have known many girls who did look more masculine in their build and features than feminine but they were not either bi-sexual or gay. I had one friend in high school named, Peaches, who was very pretty, looked very feminine and I later discovered that she was gay. So looks mean nothing. Not caring if you are female or male means nothing either. We are attracted to others sexually based on our nature from birth and nothing else. Men, as Xena said, just do it for me sexually.
