What is that one thing (or two, or three) you would never do, or never do again; and why wouldn't you do it?

*Let's say "something you will try to avoid as much as possible"...*

This could be something you would never/never again do to yourself, or something you would never/never again do to someone else.

Maybe you have imagined doing it, but something told you not to go ahead with it.

What stopped you from doing it?

I will begin to get the ball rolling.

1. I will never believe something that is too good to be true with regards to money related things mostly.

The reason is: I have been snookered before for trying to take the easy road and cutting corners, and I have learned that quality comes with some form of work, dedication, patience, focus, a little sweat and some nurturing, like a healthy garden.

2. I will never give up and be the victim of my environment.

The reason is: I have learned that where I am today does not determine who I will be tomorrow. To fall does not mean that I am fallen, it means that I am testing myself to see how badly I desire to get up. If I fall a million times, I will get up a million times.

3. I will never have "relations" with a superior. LOL...

The reason is: It is darn uncomfortable, embarrassing, and makes me paranoid. The secrecy of it all just feels slimy and devious, and after a while it just becomes unclear whether the joke's on me or what. Then you have to update your resume and get another job, especially when you realize that the superior does that to all new girls.

These have been my lessons, amongst many.

Tell us what you would never do or never again do, and why? Stories are most welcomed.

OOPS! But unlike Britney, I ain't never doing it again.

For example:

A nightmare holiday like this one: http://andfaraway.net/blog/2005/05/27/i-will-never-do-this-again/

quote:

Having promised ourselves to do everything there is to do in Amman, the Sarahs and I decided to celebrate our day off by spending the evening “relaxing” at Al-Pasha Turkish Bath in Jabal Amman.

Well, at least, I thought it’ll be “relaxing”, because it was the farthest thing from relaxing I’ve ever experienced in my life. Its just that, as far as I’m concerned, burning steam, a boiling jacuzzi and being massaged to death are no where near my idea of “relaxing”. Actually, this package works as well as the best sedatives around- it completely knocked me out. For someone like me, being knocked out is the ultimate hell, I love being awake, thank you very much. I honestly have no idea how I drove back home, and I have no idea what I did for the next several hours. The only thing I know is I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN.

Seriously, I don’t see the point. The whole idea of laying off drinking and drugs is to stay alert, and a Turkish bath strips you off everything including your alertness. At least with the other two there’s a buzz involved, with a Turkish bath it’s as if you’re in a vegetal state. Alright, I guess some people consider that relaxing, but next time I feel like relaxing, I’m hitting a nice chilled pool.

I must give the place some credit though… It is, afterall, gorgeously designed. I absolutely love the arches, the stained glass, and the authentic Arabic feel to everything.

Or... this about waxing from : http://hesaidshesaid.ivillage.com/love/2007/09/the_things_women_will_do.html

quote:

My husband’s been hinting that he’d find it really sexy if I got totally waxed (down there) before our big 10th anniversary trip to Hawaii. I have mixed feelings, especially since I’m really afraid of the pain. I’ve heard it’s worse than childbirth. What do you think?

One person said to respond:

quote:

PAIN! Been there done that will never i repeat never do it again but if ya decide to do it let him be in there with you after he sees he will never ever want you to go through that horrific pain again my husband wouldnt dare let me again even if i wanted to lol But trust me i wouldnt want to !!

There must be some interesting stories on LL.

1. I will never give anyone personal info on me over the net.

Couple years ago I posted on this student forum, after about a year if you clicked on my profile you'd get my picture and where I went to school. I would also mention where my dorm was, where my home-home was - road and everything - and what train I'd catch every Friday to go home. Needless to say I had a "fan". Long story short, the police were involved and we had to move - my mother never let me hear the end of it but I refused to change dorms that year. Luckily I was alright but going out for a night on the town was never the same.

I ONCE mentioned what part of London I lived here, but quickly edited *sigh*

edit***

OH!

2. and I'd never wear cheap ass heels

you don't want to know why

Now, now... don't be shy... Dish the dirt about the heels... LOL... I can just imagine

haha I think it's ok so long as you don't give your street name and number!!

The heels? omg omg omg I fell and landed on a guy.....lol I laugh now but ugh...and he was like WTF?? but this old european guy was so nice and helped me up - british guys suck btw - I was so red and you can't hide that you know. I had to walk home barefoot.

Actually I think that was the time I just fell! but I remember taking off my shoes cause they broke walking down the street. I fall a lot, even in flats. Like the time a scrapped the tip of my big toe off cause I fell on the road.

I am laughing with you, not at you. I have tripped and landed on my knees. I was deputy head prefect at school, and it was assembly, and I had just been reprimanding a Jnr for not paying attention, and while I was doing that, while walking, there was a back-pack on the floor. My foot got hooked on it and I fell right in front of the person I was telling to be quiet.

Everyone saw it, the entire Snr class, but because I was cool and somewhat laid back, I laughed along.

The irony of instant karma. Hee.

Fortunately, I was a nice prefect that didn't go about punishing people, so it was just easily forgotten, so I know how you feel.

Unfortunately, I can't say that I will never trip again, but I hope I never.

The entire thing was humbling though. I became less aloof that day.

lol bless!! You sound like me as a kid, telling everyone what to do

I fell plenty in school, which is ok if you're small. Falling in highschool

It's cool tho cause no matter how bad our experience is, someone has it worse. I believe in uni some guy fell down the lecture theater bowling ball style taking down a couple of students no one was hurt!

I've been thinking about this for awhile, and it's tough coming up with an answer.

One thing I could say that I don't want to do again is give myself a haircut. Yes, in my younger days I managed to give myself a haircut without wrecking it (Virgo Moon ), but it's such a pain in the @ss. It's really not worth it.

Another thing I came up with is: Join the Navy. For me, that's a one time deal. I'm done.

Oh...now they're just pouring out. This is a good one!

    SELL KIRBY VACUUM CLEANERS!!!

Oh hell no! I lasted through the training, and that was about it. I can handle people saying, "No," to thousand dollar vaccum cleaners. Doesn't bother me a bit. Not exactly the kind of sales position I'd excel at.

Here's another: cook steak on an insufficiently hot pan. I think I only made that mistake once growing up.

Another cooking blunder from when I was a school boy: mistaking corn syrup for cooking oil in the popcorn popper. That doesn't work too well... though I must admit I wonder if kettle corn may have been born of such an accident.

SS... falling is so embarrassing. I think it is how you handle yourself after. If you get up and not laugh at yourself, then you look like an idiot. LOL

Do you remember how gracefully Naomi Campbell recovered from her runway blunder? It is because she laughed along, even though she was/is a "diva".

AG... Okay, you and the kitchen are a no-no, or have you improved?

Speaking of the Navy, I wanted to be in the air-force at one point, but when I found out about the boot-camp, that was enough for me to forget about the entire idea. I had a thing for F14s. I blame it on Tom Cruise and Top Gun.

And Sales!

Yes, can I add that to my never again list too? I started at little bank products until I was a broker, and the more I went "up the ladder" the more evil and devious I became. I hated making people afraid of the future, or telling them that they needed something they didn't.

Me: Good Day Ma'am. I would like to convey my condolences for the passing away of your husband. My prayers are with you?

Client: Thank you, but who are you?

Me: I am __________ and was your husband's financial advisor. Don't worry about the logistics and financial details, I will take care of everything. You just take care of yourself and let me know if you need some advice... " etc.

*what I meant was: Now, ma'am, I am kinda grateful that your husband had died because my boss is breathing down my neck about my numbers, so, I need to process your insurance policies so that I can re-invest the funds into a Annuity, so that I, and the firm, can make more commission out of you and your family.*

Sales! Never again.

Oh, the kitchen and I generally get along. My mom started teaching me how to cook early, and I always took to it more than my older sister did.

Serious?

I will never enter into a relationship so bat-out-of-hell fast because it 'feels right'. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!! I mean it folks, get to know people for at least 3 months before moving in with them!!

Funny?

Wear shoes that are too small just because they look really good. Falling on your booty in the middle of a packed club dancing to 'Billie Jean' cuz your shoes are too tight is not okay!! Talk about embarassing!!

ghanima81- yeah, 3 months before moving in is reasonable. Actually, that's is still too little for me.

And, another shoe victim! I am starting to think of heels(shoes) as hazards. Were you trying to do the moon-walk, by any chance?

hmmmm, things i wouldn't do again ... for some reason i find it rather hard to come up with these "things" that i wish to not do over ... I live by the rule have no regrets. Everything i did at one time or another is exactly what i wanted then. So with that said, i dont regret anything i've done, but there are a couple that i wish to never repeat.

Some that came to mind is :

Get involved with "hard" drugs.
Light that first Cigarette
Bully the kids who were diffrent from myself
drink and drive
follow someone around in my truck "just for the fun of it"
Cheat on my partner
Stay with an abusive partner in hopes they will change
Go to a bar alone

Hang my head over a lit candle to smell the scents - Whooosh! I went from LONG hair at 4yrs old to a short boy hair cut within seconds.
Lite a candle in a plastic cande holder - burned the top of my brand new dresser doing that one.

Not hear the seriousness in someones voice, not hang up that phone, not trust my gut to do something about it. - a friend of mine was robbed in mid day. Three guys broke into the house and he was the only one home at the time and still a child. I called as it was happening cause i could see people home and wanted to go outside and play with them. I called three times, on the third call the youngest boy answered the phone, with a scared but serious voice saying he was the only one home and no one else was there. (when in fact i saw more than one person thru the window) ... after i hung up the phone. The stole many items from the house. Never harmed him. Thank god. BUT - if i woulda trusted my gut to call someone, they coulda been caught. atleast 15 years later, they still havent been caught.

Give up my virginity to someone who just wanted me for my virginity. (ok so that ones really a regret more than anything - guess i do have a couple then dont I)

angel_of_hope.

Yeah, it's not about what we regret really, and more about what we have learned to avoid for ourselves.

quote:

follow someone around in my truck "just for the fun of it"

That is fuuuuny! Thing is, I am a little twisted, so I understand this one, even though I have never stalked anyone before. But, LOL, I have thought about it.

quote:

Hang my head over a lit candle to smell the scents - Whooosh! I went from LONG hair at 4yrs old to a short boy hair cut within seconds.

Hahaha! *Laughing with you, not at you* LOL

My sister had that experience. But, she was not smelling a candle. We had a power failure, and she took a candle to find something under her bed, and next, I just heard a scream and saw flames! i was around 9 years old when that happened.

I still remind her of that day, even though it has been years... She didn't have that much hair to lose, and she didn't burn her skin, thank God. But it was funny, because my sister thinks she's a diva, so I really enjoy seeing her squirm.

Unmoved!!

Re: the truck incident. A friend and I were bored, and after having a few beers and some doobies we decided to take a drive. We randomly picked some younger looking person to "play" with. Needless to say, it ended when i was surrounded at a stop light by 6, count em, 6 squad cars. The people we picked was a pizza delivery driver (not working) and had a cell phone. About 2 weeks prior to that a pizza delivery driver had been robbed and shot .... we scared em enough that they called the police. Earlier that day i had put my work tools, which consisted of a HUGE 16" or so knife (I was an insulator at the time) in the bed of my truck. I had weed in the truck, as well as smoking utensils, alcohol in my system (more than the limit), stolen street signs ... and nothing but lies lies lies coming outta my mouth .... and i managed fool the officers and get away with all of it. I told myself, NEVER AGAIN! was fun while it lasted though. lol.

That's exactly how I imagined the motive for following someone... just for the fun of it, just because you can. I do arbitrary things like that too just because I can, that why I identify.

Man! You actually reminded me of something. About "road signs"...

Ok, I hang out with all sorts of people. Some are "bad", criminals or former criminals, and a lot are delinquents, (but I also hand out with an equal number of "good" people).

Anyway... One evening, actually late at night, my friend came over and asked if we may take a walk because he had something to show me.

I followed him out. It was late at night. I was a little concerned, but I didn't want to seem to apprehensive and push him about the reasons for a walk in the middle of the night. So, I just went with the flow.

He had a funny look on his face.

So, when we were outside, we walked quite a bit, to the part of the neighborhood we never go, and then he stopped, and with pride revealed to me a 9mm gun, which he had bought that day.

So... that night, we used up all his bullets (4 magazines). We shot at the air for a while while, until that got boring and begun to shoot at "street signs".

*Also, there was a friend of a friend who had a thing about street signs. I just didn't understand the motivation behind that. Like, after you take it, what do you do with it?*

Anyway... Back to the story...

In the hood, when you hear gunshot, it's not a big deal so no one called the cops on us or anything. This was when I was 16.

So, this story reminds me of a few things I will try to avoid.

1) Vandalism, and
2) Owning a fire-arm

We did that for more months thereafter, learning tricks like cocking the gun with our Converse sneakers... and such. It was fun but no thanks. I just don't see the point now.

I never again want to hurt the people I love and I don't want to end up in jail, so I will never drink alcohol again.

On a funnier note, I will never wear a long, flowy skirt on a windy day!! I let my bf at the time talk me into not wearing panties or hosiery, so when the wind blew that skirt over my head it gave quite the view.

NEVER AGAIN

OMG!!! aquaspryt69, sort of like M. Monroe XXX. Oh, dear! I cringe at the thought of that happening to me (skirt).

On the alcohol (and other drugs) bit... I assume you were part of a drunk-driving thing, right? I am sorry about that.

I am reflecting these days on such things, hence I posted this topic; and I am asking myself whether I am the type of person who needs something bad to happen before I learn to avoid it.

Do I need to be in a traumatic experience (to experience pain) first before I learn to love myself enough to stop doing potentially hurtful things?

Also, through this introspection, I realized that I am selfish because there are people who love me, who care about me, and it is my duty to look after myself for their sake, if i won't do it for myself...

Thank you for sharing.

TheEvolution.

Bravo, and I mean it. I have a lot of respect for people who can quit destructive addictions, especially when these things are a source of pleasure.

I say this because quitting smoking is hard.

I can add that to my list too. I have relapsed, but... I just get up and try again. I can't afford not to, and the more I quit, the further apart the relapses.

Smoking... I have no kind words for it, for how it has treated me. And I pray that I never smoke again. Actually, I am going to do my best not too.

I have an addictive personality. Fortunately, I have never tried hard drugs because I just knew how nice it would be, so I just decided not to open that can of worms...

Anyway

TheEvolution... BIG UP TO YOU!!!

And Bluemoon... Bravo to you too!!! And to all who have quit for good, or for even a shorter time.
