I am a software programmer. I had my own small time animation studio as well. Right now doing freelance programming works. So I guess this is self-explanatory!IP: Logged |

Well, I have been a programmer since 1994, and since 1996 when internet boom came in (to India), I am involved online too in communities and chat. Made friends, and some of them have grown beyond the realm of internet to real life as well. Can't complian.IP: Logged |

Interesting question (and history lesson), HD I finally got my very own first computer in 2001 (had computers at work in 1980 or so – the ones where the keyboard was part of the monitor – all-in-one – a Dinosaur!! ) I acquired one because I was the Project Manager for the implementation of our new accounting software at work, and I would have to spend quite a bit of time (OT) with the initial setup, working from home – on a dialup modem (**gasp**). Nowadays when I need to sign into the server from home I use the VPN over broadband or sign into the terminal server – almost as fast as the T1 line at work. It’s probably the same ratio of time spent, then as now….. 20% Work 20% Email 60% Surfing – which includes foruming, but mainly research and reading – and tootling around places like www.howstuffworks.com or viewing the latest Bionicle movie trailer 800 times with my 11yo son, until we get his computer fixed. I can’t let him touch my computer, everytime he does something goes haywire!!! (which is why his own computer is sitting dormant….. :-\ ) That 60% has to come down a bit nowadays tho – since I figured out how to record cd’s to send to friends or make samplers for the car, and a generous and warmhearted friend sent me the Photoshop program; so the Venusian angle takes up more time now quote: as for internet social networking and general entertainment that is the lowest priority in my list for computer usage ..
But HD, whatever would you use that multitude of spiffy icons for if there were no forums?? IP: Logged |

I got my first computer ages ago because my ex would want to always have the new toys out there. But I bought several others because of my job.The last one I bought , my lap top I use to read at night, after sitting in here all day long on front of a desktop my back would get tired and I was a bit in pain as well, so I decided to invest in this lap top and thank God I did, I didn't know there was soooooo much out there, I mean I knew, but once you really start searching for other things besides talking to your friends, pictures, jokes etc you can really find an amazing world and amazing people... Just like the people here My lap top is my number one companion IP: Logged |

Mainly to keep in touch with friends & family. We constantly have the 2 way web cam going with my family chatting with my sister and her family in VA or my 2 sons in Oklahoma. Kind of cool.. almost seems like we're in the same room sometimes.IP: Logged |

I use it a lot for school. In fact, it is a necessity for school; as I have to download class lecture notes, print my labs, take online quizzes, sign up for classes, look up info. for school and do the majority of school communication via their website. IP: Logged |

I use mine for just about all of the above. I don't mind that much of it is internet related in some regard.Let's see: - Banking - Paying bills - Shopping - Calculating - Word Processing - Making or improving images - Storing images - Watching videos - Reading the news - Chatting - Conversing on Forum - Occasionally gaming - Listening to music - Recording/Storing music - Creating music - Running astrology programs - Researching - Saving important info - Email - Accounting, though I need to learn my software better I think that about covers it for me. I could certainly live without one, but it wouldn't be my preference. My history on the computer goes way back. My dad has always been into computers (it's his livelihood), so even at an old [near] 35, I've always been around computers. IP: Logged |

I got online in about 1998. Windows 98 and dial up. UGH!! My son built me a computer and got me online. I had a computer before that but only used it for homework for classes I was taking at that time and for writing letters for mailings to obtain donations for the literacy program I was sponsored by as an Americorps VISTA volunteer. I also played games on it for entertainment. We use it now for paying bills, banking, shopping online, looking up specific information, making reservations for trips etc. I belong to a game site but no longer chat there. Just play the games. I come here to LL and occasionally go to CE. Most of the socializing I do is here at LL and with people from CE. I have made some very good online friends through the years and some I have met in person. So I can't complain either. If I wasn't online I would probably read more. That's the only downside of it for me. IP: Logged |
