Happy New Year! Your Result: The Inland NorthYou may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop." I'M guilty! I was born in Missouri, 60 miles southwest of St. Louis. I've lived all over though. PA Ca Ga TN MD Fl AZ
I guess I'm still a mid-western girl though. IP: Logged |

I love the midwest. We talk fast here. We even drop off the ending of a lot of words and blend them in with others. We don't have time for word endings. In Michigan we pronounce Wisconsin, Wesconsin. A friend told me it is not Wesconsin, it's Wisconsin and I told him it's West of us so we call it Wesconsin. Or maybe that is just me and my southern accent. hee hee I also pronounce pink as "peenk." That cracks my hubby up. He always asks me to say pink. He was born in Detroit so what does he know? IP: Logged |

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The West Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta. Well, I have lived 37 out of 38 years in Arizona so I guess it makes sense. IP: Logged |

What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. ******
I'm from FL so that's actually right. I've always been told that I don't really have an accent, at least from Americans. But I do prefer English accents. And I can't make up my mind if I like Northern or Southern English accents better. But I do believe that they're the ones who don't have accents. It's like spanish spoken in Spain. All the rest of us have accented their language. IP: Logged |

My old drama teacher said that people from New England, New York, and Jersey have the accents that are most closest to the common English accent and therefore we are the Americans who's accents are most phonetically correct. That's probably why people from England who took the quiz kept getting the Northeast. And he also said Southern Accents come from the High Class English accent (like how the Royalty speaks) , of course with other factors that include the hot weather and I think he mentioned the Spanish (?) have influence on their accent. To be completely honest, I prefer the English accent over the American one too. English accents are wayyyyy sexier to listen to than American ones.
But out of all the American accents I can actually stand listening to, I actually prefer my own accent. Listening to a guy with a Rhode Island/New York/Jersey accent is kind of more attractive to me than listening to a guy from anywhere else who over-pronouciates their "R's". Sorry, just a pet-peeve of mine. *shrugs* IP: Logged |

NE (Philadelphia scores highest)Which is probably pretty accurate, as I'm a native Brit with a nice middle-class accent, that's lived in Southern England all my life (SW, then SE) IP: Logged |

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard. The Inland North The Midland The Northeast The South North Central Boston The West

First Canadian to have a Midland Accent." is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent...." Its most likely because I grew up in Toronto. Toronto is more conected to the rest of North American then Ottawa is. So I guess I've heard a lot of diffrent accents from all over North America. As for english accents I like people with British accents that sound like Pierce Bronson. But not so much like Keira Knightley accent. IP: Logged |

Philadelphia. How the - ? I never lived in Philly. Growing up, I moved around a lot, but lived mostly in or around NYC. Hmph. Guess I need to spend more time "practicing my non-regional diction." "The human torch was denied a bank loan." IP: Logged |

What American accent do you have? Your Result: North Central "North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.The Funny thing is, I was born in Seattle, then moved to Minnesota and lived there for 10 years. The city i live in was right next to Fargo. I thought it was hilarious and scarily accurate. I think i have mostly shed the Midwest accent that i have. it pops out everyone in a while. The city was Moorhead. lol here is a pic. They are right across the river from each other. ------------------ Scio me nihil scire tanslation- I know that I know Nothing IP: Logged |

Hmm. Almost tied between 'The West' and 'Midland', although West came out on top. I scored high on 'Boston' oddly enough since I've always lived in Missouri close to Kansas City.IP: Logged |
