First of all: Happy New Year to you all!

Secondly, I peeped Fayte's Quiz site and found this one...and it was so freaking accurate!! Anyways, I thought it would be interesting to see how we all talk (Em Inglés of course ) Here's mine.....

quote:
Your result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from North Jersey, New York City, Connecticut, or Rhode Island. Chances are if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

Yeah, I have an annoying accent.

But enjoy!

Hi Dulce and Happy New Year to you!

I couldn't get it to copy and paste w/o it highlighting the entire page.

I got: The West

I think it's only because I've lived in so many places with different dialects.

Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

Weird. I've been here in the "Inland North" for 10 years but didn't think the lingo had rubbed off on me to that degree
Yeah, I've never called pop "soda", even when I lived in Washington State.....

Still grates on my ears when the locals say "about" (a-boat) and "aunt" (awnt) and talk about bringing a "hot dish" over.....

Weird I got Inland North too...born in CA, live in Mid-Atlantic region for years.
When I did a mid-point composite for the two locations the log-lat came up with Stillwater, OK.
Wonder what a OK accent sounds like!?

I call "pop" soda.

And Its funny, coz I was reading the comments there and the majority of the British people who took the quiz ended up getting Northeast. That leads me to this: my cousins from Georgia think that me and my sister sound like were from England.

And also, alot of Canadians who took it got Inland North. And the quiz even said that people from there often get mistaken for Canadian.

Glad you guys enjoyed though!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Boston

You definitely have a Boston accent, even if you think you don't. Of course, that doesn't mean you are from the Boston area, you may also be from New Hampshire or Maine.

The Midland
The West
Philadelphia
The Northeast
North Central
The Inland North
The South

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

or Nevada

I got Northeast, which is strange because I've always lived in the West.

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

(I'm from SoCal. I'm now in NorCal.)

My result was the south. LOL

Not even close to where I was raised in still live in the midwest.

However, I was born in Arkansas and was raised by southern parents with southern relatives. Everyone tells me, including my husband, that I have a bit of southern accent.

So I guess it is accurate.

My second highest scores were Philadelphia and inland north so that would be real accurate.

Guess you never quite lose that southern accent.

Midland and then South... which is about right, because I don't have a heavy accent, but I live in the South.

How odd this is mine after taking that quiz...I am a California native (SF Bay Area) and have lived on the West Coast all my life:

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

The West
The Midland
Boston
The Inland North
Philadelphia
The South
The Northeast

People I know from the Boston area say that out West we don't have an accent. I think that other natives from my area have a distinctive way of speaking even if it's not like our Southern, Midwest or various Northeast accents. I can always tell someone from is from the Bay Area. Just a certain way of pronouncing or saying certain things.

That's a southern accent you've got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don't have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it.

I'm in KY

LOL... Okay.. Bear and I both got Inland North

"You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop.""

We do not call carbonated drinks "pop" (it's either a soda or a coke). We have never been asked if we are from Wisconsin. For me, Bear and I are always asked if we are from the SW but never the Northeast or Upper lakes. I was born and raised on the west coast and Bear was as well.

Hmmm.. .weird.. LOL..

Then again, we have both lived all over the US and Bear can add, Italy, Korea and we both have Germany.

I now find myself saying "ya-ya" which is very European LOL.. Bear has been saying that for awhile LOL...

I love an Indian accent, cancerrg.

Most British people say we Americans have an accent, not them. LOL

I think that many people from England feel that Americans butcher the English language.
