BERLIN (Reuters) - A Berlin burglar's break-in took an unexpected turn when he stumbled upon a corpse and felt compelled to call the police.
"He called to say he'd just broken into a flat and found a dead body," said a spokeswoman for Berlin police Thursday. "He gave the address of the place and then hung up."
Officers discovered the 64-year-old resident of the flat dead in his bedroom. The man had passed away about two weeks ago, and authorities are not treating the death as suspicious.
The burglar has not been heard of since. Local media said he fled the apartment empty-handed, but police could not confirm this.

I don't think it's sick. Even if the guy was a burgler, he had enough respect for the flat-owner to call the authorities so the man could have a decent burial.....

I agree Zala that is was considerate for him to call in the death.

What I do wonder is what would have happened if the man was alive and the burgler broke in and surprised him? Hmmm.....

Stranger things have happened. Like one burglar that turned in a maker of child porn that he stumbled onto:
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/story/2006/12/01/porn-arrest.html

quote:
Mitchell was charged in October 2005 after someone broke into his house and stole a video camera.

According to an agreed-upon statement of facts, after the break-in, police were tipped off about a tape with child porn images on it that had been left on the steps of a church.

Police found a note with the address of the home and viewed the tape, discovering the burglar had filmed a computer monitor with images of child porn

A step-cousin of my ex-h (God, I know this is complicated) lives in an urban area and was woken up one night by a burglar climbing in through the bedroom window. "What are YOU doing here?" he exclaimed. "Oh, sorry, mate," said the burglar, beating a hasty retreat out of the window. "I thought you were on holiday."

Yeah, the "sorry, mate" bit is very English LOL...Although, I'm not sure it's so much politeness as in-your-face cheek!!

it shows the humane side of those we loosely label as evil. i wish we were more compassionate to them in court then to just punish them for the sake of it.

recently policemen in north india, tired of daily thefts, took off their anger on a poor juvenile caugh stealing. he was beaten badly and blinded by the police and when he passed away in the prison cell was thrown away to avoid getting into legal trouble.

a short time back in the state of bihar in india, which has the most criminal cases regostered every year had a similar case come up. a thief caught by policemen was stripped and beaten as if he wore a rabid dog! he was then rallyed accross the village with his feet tied to the policeman's motor cycle and all this was happening in front of the camera.
