I've been around on the net, and I've seen mindless flaming like I guess many of you wouldn't believe. Because Linda Land is VERY calm in comparison. A veritable oasis in the land of negativity where people can shoot off their mouths without fear of lawsuit or an old fashion punch in the mouth, and take full advantage of it.

For those of you who haven't heard of them, there are also the "trolls" that haunt most other boards. While variations exist, most trolls are just attention seekers that will do or say anything to get attention. One easy way to get attention is to make blatant sexist and racist comments, or to degrade other members and/or their interests. If such a troll came here, for example, it would be to talk about how stupid Linda Goodman was. NOT because they believe it--they don't care, and it's not the point--but because it would upset as many of us as possible, and thus flame the person and so rewarding the troll with the attention it desires. Be glad that most of them haven't heard of LG.

And out of those places that AREN'T so afflicted, the censorship is usually so intense that it's nothing more than kissing the butts of the mods that don't dare disagree with each other for fear of a "banning war" against each other. It's almost like most of the net is either a "drunken wild west free for all" or a dicatorship/police state. Linda Land is one of the few places that I don't mind coming to time and time again.

Anyway, just saying. Seeing the "negativity" threads up, I thought I'd point it out that Linda Land is actually pretty nice, certainly compared to many other places on the net. Even Global Union is decent, well above average IMO.

And on the side, I'd also like to point out that I haven't had that much time here lately. I'm slowly getting "caught up" and will soon be getting caught up here, too. For the past couple of weeks or so I've just been dropping in briefly, but I haven't been keeping up with any threads in any detail, just reading and/or posting randomly. (So maybe I've missed something...)

No, I can't help myself.

For real viscious venting can I suggest talent show sites?

There are bars in most towns you can go and it won't take much for it to all kick off. Just sit in the wrong chair, or look at someone. Hey, why waste energy being clever about poetry, politics or growing parsnips? A real life fight is SO much more satsifying.

Its good to know that things are a lot worse elsewhere.

It took me a little while to figure out where I saw this picture before, it's from "The Gnome Book" published in the late 1970's. Check out the Gnome hiding behind the green cup on the table. Poor little dude.

Dervish-
I agree! I am an Admin at a major Yahoo affiliated site & the trolls show their ugly heads now & again. And yes I've even been witness to the banning wars of which you speak. I also agree that this forum is very calm & everyone I have come into contact with is very nice & respectful. Case in point, I had to delete posts & ban 2 members which have been slandering our competitor in our wastelands thread. Huge debate over this & 2 admins threatened to leave because even tho in the wastelands you can say what you want (this thread states the whole freedom of speech thing and what-not) the dev team & I came to the agreement that it makes our program look very unprofessional for our forum users to be bashing our competitors. It was only a small handful, but now it's been handled. Back on topic, this forum is wonderful!!!
