A book came out decades ago. I read it when I was 11 many times over. I think by then it was old (given that most books in that school library were). Since then I've only seen it once--in a public library in Chico, about 2001--and never anywhere else (as I was passing through, I didn't do more than flip through it, and just figured I'd find it in another library). And now, having used library options, I wasn't able to find that they still had it. I'd like to see this book again.

I forget the name, but I have a vague impression that "time and space" or "journeys" or even "tales" may have featured in it. It was a tall book full of colored illustrations.

Stories that I recall include one where a human gets involved with a feline humanoid that turns out to be dangerous or a criminal. Another one has stranded Earthlings being used by aliens that look like giant protozoa (and took away one guy that was starving himself, presumably to eat him). One was about a guy with white hair that couldn't fit in that went out into space and became a star (as in astronomical body). I believe one story involved time travel where a boy woke up like a century back in time (same place) and just barely made it back (or maybe he'd gone forward, I forget).

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Would someone please look the next time you're at your library for this book? It should be in Juvenile (science fiction, if they have such a section). If you find it, can you write down the title & author for me, please? I'd really like to see this book again, out of curiosity.

Ty.

Hi, Dervish. I actually don't know the book to which you are referring but I can share with you a website that my husband has used to before. He wanted to find a book he'd read as a child and had only a vague description. But Loganberry Books was able to help him. I think the charge to post your "stumper" is $2. Either way, they also have a couple of sections where you can look up books that have stumped others, namely Solved Mysteries and Most Requested Books.

Hope this is helpful.

Ty. If all else fails, I'll try that.
