Well, I didn't watch the TV series at first until a friend of mine highly recommended them. Them it took me a while to get into it but now I am hooked so I had to go and see the movie. I would say the series are better. This material doesn't translate very well in a movie. Most women that I saw at the movie theatre wore slacks and really didn't look that girly or glamorous... I also don't think that the very well made up women/ socialites who live similar lives in New York City would have any interest in this movie.IP: Logged |

Mama Mia!!! Sex And The City if one of the most fabulous TV series we have on the box ever. It is basically an ode to all things feminine. And I will go as far as to say that it truly changed the way women related to themselves, to men, and to the world at large! It became OK fun, fabulous and sucessful and still be a decent human being, with feelings and morals and compassion. I love love love the show and could watch it a million times over. and the funny thing is the only people I know who dont like the show, are the ones who never watched it!

But I hear you about women going gaga for the movie! I work in a cinema, and on the day the tickets went on sale we had women queing up at 8am waiting for the doors to open an hour later! We almost had a fight in the queue as well!! We sold out of a 2 week run in 4 hours.IP: Logged |

You're not a fan.I don't have enough info to venture a guess about whether you're "girly" or not. IP: Logged |

A neighbor friend of mine wanted to take me to see Sex in The City and I turned her down. I'm not a huge fan of chick flicks and my sympathy go out to the men who get dragged to the movie by the woman in their life.My boyfriend works in a theater - he's the door bouncer. he told me that the women (200 strong) showed up in droves wearing their fancy clothes and high heels etc. There was alot of emotional responses happening during the movie and at the end they all clapped. Only 2 or 3 men came to watch the movie. My boyfriend told me that the movie was just about a pair of shoes and it had no story line - though he like to watch violent movies so maybe his judgment is off. I think I would rather go out and watch Ironman or the new Indiana Jones movie than to watch Sex. I figure to each their own......hey if the other women are loving it and are happy then nothing else matters..... ID IP: Logged |

I can see how someone who hasnt watched the series wouldnt want to see the movie. It does seem like its just about sex and fashion, or shoes. Superficial things. Thats why I didnt watch the series for years, but Im hooked now. Because its about so much more! But Im still going to wait until it comes out on video. IP: Logged |

Sex and the City, in my opinion, had the best writers in television; and now they are all working on Ugly Betty. IP: Logged |

oh i agree totally with unmoved - such clever writing - it was kind of the first one to come along that was just so so smart. i love the show - love the characters - laugh out loud when i watch this show. can't say that about many other programs.i lmao when carrie and her comic book boyfriend were caught smoking pot in his parent's house and then he blamed her and said it was hers so she said it was and took it with her when she left. omg - priceless. and was so devastated when carrie cheated on aiden with big that i stopped watching it for a while. and i don't watch much tv - maybe an hour or two in a week - maybe. ah - savvy and smart. and really - there is some part of us that wants to be some part of each of them. carrie's wit - samantha's abandon - miranda's indpendence and charlotte's apartment. one of the cleverest shows ever. when i hired the dvds recently - my husband sat there and watched them - without me. lol. isn't it ironic that a show about a group of independent smart sassy wowen was created and written by a man.therefore, all the girls stood for - the virtually unconditional sex, the way they dressed, etc - isn't that really the ultimate male fantasy. ah, the irony - or the tragedy! IP: Logged |

I found the show a bit on the preachy side when it came to sex actually. It titillated (at least I assume it did) but there were definite boundaries that kept their sex lives pretty vanilla (with that one character excepted), and sometimes I thought it was a bit annoying on how "liberated" and "open minded" they claimed to be, yet they were actually for the most part pretty conservative in their sexuality (again, save that one), save only in that they tended to be too casual about their vanilla sex. At least in what few eps I saw. As for chick flicks, I always thought that men who complain about "how men are portrayed in movies" should see more chick flicks. I'm not sure about SatC specifically, but a great many of them display men in a very positive light while the villains are primarily female. (OTOH, guns, explosions, and other "guy flick" material is in short supply, if not entirely absent.)
