Is anyone here from the Oregon area? Or have any suggestions on what to do there?
I'll be in Bend.

I'll be vacationing there in a couple of weeks. Me and my sister are tagging along with my father and step mom who will be there for a church conference. So I have ten days, their rental car during the days and nothing planned. I know I'll be a couple hours away from the Redwood forest which is the place I've always wanted to see the most.

Other than that, I've do idea what I'll do.
I love anything to do with nature, but my optiona are sort of limited as far as anything physical. And pretty much anything there is to do in Bend involves some very physical activites!

But Im not stuck to just that town.

Oh, and Im not a big of bars, or clubs. I do however love anything to do with Art, and history, museums. Anything unusual or out of the ordinary. Even if its something silly like the Worlds largest ball of twine( been there. done that)Any sort of beautiful scenary I can take in from my car. One of my favorite things to do is just drive and enjoy whats around me.

Anyways, long story short, I thought I'd ask someone who has experience there. I've looked online, but dont really even know where to start!

Are those Redwood those trees that are massive and have been around 1000s of years? And with reddish bark? If so, I would so want to see them

Why not try and google: Things to do in Oregon State and see what comes up? I am sure you can narrow it down to Bend?

Let us know what you have decided on

oregon is gorgeous. there is desert in the east, gorgeous beaches on the west coast, rainforest, mountains, rivers; but if you are physically very limited most of that is off limits, isn't it? the scenery is spectacular, which you can enjoy from a car. ashland has shakespeare. portland is a great little city.

a largely rural state making sure it stays that way! take your camera, you could come home with an album BUT in October the rains have started. take some good books too!

It depends on how far you want to drive. I went to the redwoods, did some camping, etc. Then we drove to San Fran and hung for a few days.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

I think we would like to stay within a couple hours of Bend.

Noreen, I was watching the travel channel and lo and behold, they talked about the columbia river gorge.

It ranked #9 on the list of top ten wonders of the west. It was described as having "breath-taking views and numerous waterfalls - Multnomah Falls is the second-highest year-round flowing waterfall in the United States"

Its only about 2 and a half hours away. So theres something.

Eighthmoon,
I would kill to hang out in San Fransisco! But, alas, it can not be.

Blue moon,
It all looks dandy to me. I hope that lady is still there! hahaha.

fieryscales,
Yep, those are the ones. Im most excited about seeing them.

I love Portland.
The Gorge is fantastic, but people drive like idiots on the highway sometimes.

I have spent about 6 months in PDX over the past 3 years, and I am always finding something cool to do, and Oregon is so pretty in general.

The Falls are cool, but I was rather blase about them 'cause I live within an hour to the Falls at Canyon in YNP.

There's a really nice park about an hour south of PDX- therefore closer to Bend- with tons of waterfalls and easy trails. I forget the name- Silver something...?

I am thinking of moving to PDX in a few weeks.

Enjoy yourself!!

Silver Falls State Park...about 3 hours from Bend...Google the park, there's a website.

Portland is worth the time if you have an extra day or two. The view of Mt. Hood and Portland from the Rose Garden, the serene Japanese Gardens are beautiful too. Walk along the Willamette in Waterfront Park, or bring a bike. Have a micro brew at one of the several pubs...McMenamins, Bridgeport, Lucky Lab to name a few. It's a city that's meant to be strolled around: NW 23rd has great shops, as well as the Hawthorne (a funky 60's-70's vibe), great shops too...Ikea showed up last year, as well as Sephora and a few others scattered aeound. The Pearl District has a good assortment of restaurants and shopping.

Don't miss Powell's City of Books on W Burnside.

Bring a jacket warm scarf, gloves and socks, it's been getting chillier so you might need at least one of them. When the wind blows off the Gorge, the air is cold(er).
