Are my other nieces and nephews being 1/2 white and 1/2 Hindi, or Hispanic or Chinese, and Korean too..... Well just what are they?------------------ Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain. IP: Logged |

I guess you could call him not-all-white. Would that suffice? The first not-all-white President.IP: Logged |

LEXXThat just happens to anyone who is seen as having any type of "ethnicity" - no matter what degree - it becomes prevalent. I'm mediterranean and I look English (very very pale white). I usually have to prove my background. IP: Logged |

i'm sorry but you cannot ignore the fact that a large segment of the population who normally would not bother to vote were given hope and motivation BECAUSE HE IS NOT MR LILYWHITE. and they made a big difference in the result. a lot of minority citizens have always felt there was no candidate who could understand the hopelessness they live with. not only does his colour matter in terms of the election results, but it matters because colour is no longer AN EXCUSE for feeling victimized and overlooked, the very same people who voted for him and will benefit from a role model they can identify with will have to give up blaming the white establishment. 'sall good... IP: Logged |

I second you, Katatonic AG put it aptly- the first non-white president of the United States. It's a pity that we often label our fellow human beings based on their skin colors, race, ethnicity etc. But it's also monumental that Obama has won the US presidential election- the first non-Caucasian American president. That gives a huge amount of hope to those who are non-Caucasians. Congratulations! D IP: Logged |

Obama may be the closest thing to a LITERAL "African-American". His father was directly from Kenya. None of Obama's ancestors were ever the subject of America's black oppression. If I went by the same social standard as the term "African-American", then I would call myself a "European-American". But I don't. The bottom line is that we're all just Americans, and that is how I refer to my American friends, regardless of ethnic lineage. IP: Logged |

Barack O'Bama is Irish ~ that's what he is ~ as Irish as bacon, cabbage and stew. It says so on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xkw8ip43Vk
And the man himself: quote: I've always maintained that O'Bama is an Irish name

I was watching CNN, and they were discussing some of the exit poll statistics. They said that 80% of Americans did not take race into account while voting. The remaining 20% were almost split down the middle. 10% voting because he was. 10% not voting because he was. IP: Logged |

good one BlueMoon, i have that one on my myspace site!! and the point about his father is a good one. my mom's last doctor was from nigeria and a less downtrodden man you never met. in nigeria, said he, his predecessors were kings. and he carried himself with that certain something. there was not one whiff of victim about him and he hung with people of all colour as long as they were smart, caring, and shared a sense of humour...but i would say part of the HUGE turnout was obviously people voting for the other side. i was flabbergasted to find out some of my good friends bought the "socialist" crap and LIKED sarah palin (although they had to admit on the issues she was dreadful!!). i guess that's why who you vote for is confidential and politics is not considered a topic for company!! i think it depends on what race the father belongs to. like if the mother is white and father black, the child would be called black.IP: Logged |

maybe in india but here if you are not white you are black, although the black community makes distinctions between lightskinned, dark, etc, etc. in fact some of the worst racists i have met are people of colour....SOME, not all.actually, you could also be "hispanic, asian, or indian (as in native american)" so the above statement is not ENTIRELY accurate...! I Barack. For the simple reason that so many were given hope. I don't care if he's the crappiest president ever. (I could totally be more eloquent, but it's almost 1:30 and I'm in my jammies and stuff.) I'm just moved to see so many people finally get involved. I'm a sucker for inspiration! IP: Logged |
