I dont get women sometimes..why on earth do some women come to the gym and wear makeup? Its disgusting, and makes you look insecure. I cant understand why anyone would want to wear makeup at the gym, its beyond me that anyone would be that concerned about appearance enough to sweat thru lipstick, and powder...

A combination of makeup and sweat could lead to a breakout.

I have an aunt worth pitying. She puts on makeup before doing any yard work in the Texas heat, combined with enough clothes to keep the sun off her (because she's conflicted between "people who don't work are lazy, no-good do-nothings" and "people who work get dark and are low class and are forced to work out in the sun"), and after sweating enough off in a few minutes, goes in to reapply it before going back out to do it again...and again...and again...

My cousin said he and his friends held a lotto once on how many times she'd do it before quitting for the day.

The really sad part is that the "better off" rednecks in town (that she tries to mix with) won't ever accept her because of the family she comes from. I haven't figured out if she's just forever optimistic (yet needing their approval) or just enjoys rejection.

My pet peeve at the fitness center are those that blast their choice of propaganda at the rest of us by abusing the TVs set by what I call the "calorie burners" (treadmills, stairmasters, etc). For years it was ok, and then during the Olympics the staff thought it was ok for people to turn it up really loud.

Ok, it was temporary, so I just steeled myself for that and got through it. But then it KEPT on going, this time dealing with the election, and it was like a war between CNN and FOX, with people turning up the volumes to be heard over the other. Finally, management stepped in and threatened to keep the TVs off if they didn't stop that nonsense. But hey, presidential elections cause temporary insanity, so I just had to steel myself longer, right?

Wrong. While not as bad, the habit started then is still going on. I do NOT go there to hear trash (and I consider the vast majority of CNN and FOX both to be trash). I know I'm not the only one because A LOT more have taken to wearing headphones while there now. As for me, I've decreased my time in that room and started using other rooms more.

One thing similar to wearing makeup there but just baffles me are those that use the sauna in gym clothes!

Swimsuits I understand, because that's what many wear in communal saunas. In the case of those who are overweight, I can see it being used to cover up certain parts, too (not that I care personally, especially as I don't use the sauna to people watch, but can understand being self-conscious about it).

The first sauna I used was a private one owned by a hippie family and people used it naked (better to get out and splash about in the cold water nearby--just as I like getting out of the sauna, taking a cold shower, and going back in, as nothing like it to let you know you're alive!). So that's how I learned to do it. And to the best of my knowledge, it wasn't an orgy waiting to break out, and I certainly didn't fantasize about jumping the bones of/having my bones jumped by everyone around me (as I told someone a little snarkily who wondered why it didn't work out that way, "something about sweating buckets tends to kill the mood"--I didn't bother asking him what he thinks goes on at nudist camps and beaches).

Anyway, I'm one of the very few that use the sauna in the nude. (I DO sit on a towel, of course--and as hot as it gets, I can't imagine anyone putting their bare butt on the benches anyway!) As far as I know this doesn't bother anyone, and it's also traditional anyway (even in some communal saunas outside the USA--that is, men and women together--are like that). And I just figured those who wore swimsuits were also doing it the way they got into the habit of doing it, too. But gym clothes confuses me.

The added part is one guy there said he'd be too scared of being molested by gays if he went into the sauna naked. I overheard 2 women talking saying they didn't use the sauna at all for fear of being molested by lesbians. I'm just baffled by this assuming nudity = sex attitude people have, and the belief that people have such poor impulse control. I don't know about the guys (the gay and bi, that is), but even many lesbians would take offense at some stranger coming onto them in a sauna, out of fear of losing membership if nothing else. Sexual harassment of any kind is taken very seriously there, not to mention insurance concerns, and I'm sure getting caught making out in the sauna would be a one-way ticket out of there with other fitness centers hearing of it. Not to mention the very real risk of serious burn injuries.

IDK, maybe it's another "see it on TV too much, so it must be that way in real life." People get naked on TV and then have sex, therefore it must be that way in real life, too, no exceptions (ie, if people get naked to have sex, then everyone who EVER gets naked is intent on having sex). And having sex in the sauna does sound like one of those unrealistic scenerios (well, outside of Russia anyway) that probably shows up in those outlandish programs like CSI that so many weirdly think are "so realistic."

It doesn't annoy me so much as just baffle me.

They're probably trying to pick up a guy.

Also, some people are too afraid to show their real selves to the world, for whatever reasons, so they put on their face (figuratively and literally) every day. Funny thing is that most women look better with very little or no make-up (well, I think). I'm not a fan of it. Then again, I'm not a fan of the gym either.

I am with you.
Nude on a towel is the way. If shy, then wrap in a bath sheet or big towel.
I like using a simple gauze toga.
I feel sitting on a towel is a hygiene issue. I personally do not want to sit on the bodily secretions and sweat of women.
I prefer the dry sauna.
Also showering before is a good idea.

Makeup and perfume, even deodorant in a gym and sauna is gross and smelly.

Hmmm . . .

I used to hurry to the gym *after work*, change into work out clothes and dash off to the cardio machines . . . taking off my make up at the time seemed like a *tedious waste of time* . . .

I did and still do wash make up off for sure if I'm swimming laps.

Earlier this year I found a *very convenient* product from Almay, disposable towelettes with make up remover. It cleans the make up off so fast and I can simply toss out the towelette. I now use this product before starting my work out.

Unashamedly guilty as charged!
Dervish I love the sound of your relative and I think I would get on with her like a house on fire....an eternal optomist.
Tell her I said "Yay sister"!

But no I do not put on make up to atract a man, I just love doing it and always will.
Is it a mask against the world? Most probably....so what?
Everybody puts on a mask against the world. EVERYBODY. Just different types. That happens to be mine.
I think people should be allowed to express themselves anyway they choose.
I do not judge people who go to the gym looking like a good wash wouldn't go amiss.

Live and let live. Express yourself heh heh heh heh....

Waterproof makeup I can understand.
Also depends on what machines one is using.
Or if swimming.
As to not judging anyone who

With MSRA and other nasty infections out there...I would not want to use a machine after a person who appeared filthy or

A bit of basic hygiene is considerate in most situations, in the gym I can see a little bit of mopping up sweat with a towel could be a good thing. But you can do that with full slap on. So I think we can all find common ground on this burning social issue.

There's limited situations in which I want to roll around in someone else's sweat and germs. There is one unfortunate individual charged with this task, and he has Virgo Rising, so, I'm sure you're relieved to learn, the hygiene standards are quite reasonable.

I have been a fitness instuctor for over 20 yrs.
Words cannot begin to describe some of the sights and odours I have been privy to!
Men who put the same t shirt back in the bag slightly damp to be brought out at the next work out.
Lycra shorts that have changed colour with sweat.
Vest wearing men with hairy bodies, each follicle with a dainty little bead of sweat glistening on the end.
Chewing gum stuck to the machines or free weights.
Somebody once peed in the waste bin in the sun shower (you couldn't hold it in for 6 minutes??)
Hidden amongst the tissues in the sun bed room (yes you've guessed it...a numero deux!)
Used tampons left on benches.
The remains of a Big Mac thrown behind the sauna bench.
People going to use toning tables and putting their feet up in your face with the socks they have had on all day and then worked out in.
I have to say I prefer a woman caked in make up and perfumed to the eyeballs any day!

Now you've reminded me, bunnies.

A good friend of mine plays for the local cricket squad. He told me that at the start of one season a team member opened up his kit bag, shook the mud off last year's trousers and put them on.

Once I worked as a hotel chambermaid. There were 3 bridal suites with four-poster beds. The full-time girls told me that in the last year three grooms had wet the bed because they were so drunk. I was a teenager at the time, and was so disgusted, I thought to myself I would divorce the b@stard right away.

After years of serving the general public I am less shocked. Last week I found a used condom wrapper on a bookshelf in the library. I had no idea the business section was so exciting.

bunnies & blue moon Having done cleaning for various places from homes, offices, and schools....yeah I know what you mean!

I used sani-wipes before and after using each machne at gyms, and always used a towel in the sauna. After awhile they had an attendant go about with Lysol and paper towels doing the same.

Oh about makeup....
A little mascara and liner I can understand.
Its the full face spackle and gloppy hand lotions/creams that I dislike as it gets on the vinyl. I am talking of the chicks who came in looking like Elvira, or bad drag queens, and smelling like a brothel, not regular hygiene conscious ladies. Most of them used the bikes or did aerobics, not machines much anyhow.
Yeah the beaded sweaty guys(hairy or not, the hairless "roid" guys having body acne..ewww)) are gross too. Dripping all over the equipment. The "drippers" were mostly the "roid" guys who had heat flushes.
Fortunately there was a box to submit complaints anonymously on stinkers (both dirty clothes wearers and over perfumed)and slimers and they would get a warning....

I find libraries really erotic. There is something about the silence. But it wasn't me BM.

Libraries....
Love them! Especially the ones still in old gothic like stone buildings! And the smell of really old books in the archival room!
{btw..the alien icon for this post concerns the following)
However yeah...some people are just nasty who go to them. Our local one has had the bathroom literally finger painted in feces and menstrual blood several times.
And the fiction stacks p!ssed on....must have been a guy because there was urine at eye level!
Books with boogers inserted.
Gum and boogers under tables.
Toilets run over by flushed pads and diapers or such left in sinks.

Libraries erotic?

You might like this vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK0GmiSMNGI

Not only did I appreciate this being done in a library, but that this time it was a GUY who got his glasses taken off and his hair mussed up who then becomes super attractive. I just thought it was a nice gender reversal for a change (not to say that he's effeminate or she's masculine).

Oh wheels! Libraries erotic?

I don't know if it's my Pluto in Virgo in 6th but I think germs in libraries. All those books and not knowing who has touched them and where their hands have been.

But book shops - with brand new books - those crisp, clean pages, the book, the smell, the look, the feel.

Oh yes!

Some women are terrified of people seeing them without makeup. I'v heard stories of women who don't leave the building when the fire alarm goes off because they have no makeup on. Some don't even let their boyfriends see them bare-faced.

Who cares.

Maybe they went to the gym after a long day at work and didn't have time to take off their make up?

It's like if you happen to have make up on at the gym you're viewed as pitiful and desperate. Why do we judge others this way?
