A fascinating bit I read from Mind Hunter, a book by a FBI profiler, about how a mother was found to have been the killer of a child that she claimed was abducted. What got the investigation focused on the mother was that the child was buried in her coat and wrapped in a bag, as if trying to keep the child warm. It's claimed that many mothers who kill their kids do things like this, whereas the males that kill children (even the fathers) are very different about disposing of bodies. That paradox of concern over well being (even after death!) mixed with homicidal inclination plays with my head. IP: Logged |

Creepy. It's just like those aspects of motherhood having a couple of sides in archetypes, one aspect being the nurturer, to the other extreme of the 'terrible mother' who is completely out of control. IP: Logged |

What the author says about psychology is questionable though, because he is bio-chemist whose specialty is forensic science, not a psychologist. So, he's an expert on forensic evidence, not necessarily on the conclusions he made about what the girl would be thinking when she was facing death row. Just some information for anyone who might use the source. But the article was of interest. I saw a video for forensic science class where the forensic scientists had to take the psychology of mothers wrapping their children into account when solving a murder. So, they are trained in the basics, but I thought the last thing he said was incorrect and he isn't qualified to make that statement with authority. Just making some conversation though. I am grateful the article was shared! IP: Logged |

I'll put Mindhunter at the top of my reading list, Dervish. Thanks.I agree with you, MM on the doc's credibility. I was reluctant to post the article just on the fact that he doesn't seem to be a fan of proofreading. Yet, it is interesting how "me, me, me" the sociopathic mind is. Did any of you listen to some of the calls between Casey and her friends/family? There quite revealing. I'll try to find it later when I get home. IP: Logged |
