Though I like an argument as much (probably more) than the next person, the kind of childish bickering on here at the moment makes me feel depressed.

Can we all, and that's everyone involved, please remind ourselves we are not at school any more?

There are plenty of places where fights can be picked with willing participants where everyone feels good after:- your local bar, a political group, or in a large bed with fluffy sheets.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with better things to do, and sadly with far bigger problems than most of the drivel I flick through on here. So can we just cool it down, please.

I will see everyone in a few days (as I know this message will prove to be a waste of finger muscles).

Much love to all.

You can do anything you want to do, blue moon.

This thread is just fuel for the fire, though.

You are in the fight, too, now. lol

Why not just ignore it and do your own thing?

Otherwise, you are adding your voice to the fray.

Which is fine. Its a nice voice.

Meet me in a bar sometime, we can argue about whatever you like. Then we can end the evening bouncing around in a hotel somewhere, my shout.

Right now ~ school run, then other stuff calls.

Have fun!

Bluemoon, if they don't want to comply with us nicely, there are alternative methods . Like I said in cheshirekat's little thread, this given forum is now under observation. If things start to slip up again, necessary steps will be taken to correct the problem.

An argument usually starts when someone says something thoughtless, ie, they have made a flippant remark that carries a consequence.

People will respond to a thoughtless statement as an act of:

**defensiveness
**correction
**education
**venting the emotion that has been created
**fairness
**balancing the viewpoint
**adding reason

Usually most people respond to the initial statement with goodwill in mind. But have you ever noticed that people who move to communicate with the above reasons in mind, are the ones that are accused of starting an argument?

Which of the following is true?

***Thoughtless statements create no response.

***Challenging thoughtless statements can be called arguing?

See if the intent of the given argumentation was something that leads to a constructive discussion of sorts, there wouldn't be a big probelm with the given topic. However, devolution of discussions into shouting matches seem to happen quite often around here and usually for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Ergo if people can't keep themselves in check, someone will have to do it for them.

An argument can also start when someone takes something way too personally, effectively taking it out of context!

This seems to be happening a lot

Lots of adding fuel to the fire!

Last March there was a huge brouhaha too. Closed threads, some so bad they were deleted. I left for 8 months. Interesting that this March tastes so similar.. I've tried other forums...we are just one dysfunctional internet family, most are.

Just try not to play into or respond to the threads and they will die. It's bound to happen, we are human.

I'm with you, Blue Moon. The back and forth is getting tiring, and I do have a lot of work to do too, so I should really get to it.
I've been distracting myself for too long.

Zipping it now

And things got settled in one of the given threads.

Topic has now been closed. Now given the past history of the forum, yes there have been arguments and the like that have been resolved overtime and things simmered down but only through huge intervention by the administrative staff.

I personally hope we can avoid that this time around.

LEXX - if you read this l wanted to say that it is nothing to do with me liking you or not so stop taking my comments so personally. If you have an identity issue it's your problem and i'm not trying to add to it. I am simply stating that yes, you did goad HSC in the meat thread. Go back and read it please. If he choses to not respond that is his prerogative!

So you can call me snotty if you wish but make sure you are right before you do, ok?

XODIAN - I don't care what you say because l am not taking any sh1t from a Uni guy when i'm double his age, i'm sorry. If people taunt and goad the accused is allowed to defend themselves so l think by you siding with the goaders, you are not exhibiting a neutral "moderator's" attitude.
I apologize for thinking you were a female

i too enjoy a good argument. "good" is a subjective term, but it implies LIMITS TO WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE.

some people are best ignored. i am sorry for anyone who has confided in HSC. but even with the most horrendous provocation it takes two to keep an argument going.

LEXX - just Obama is ordering the General Motors chairman to stand down, which is something a President has never done before and is worrying because it is implying he can run GM better than the Chairman
