You must be a midwest girl at heart Nephthys.

We`ve been a scorching 95 degrees and extremely dry which brings on the hungry grasshoppers...the chickens and turkeys love them

A dream is to see the S.F. and Toledo (OH) zoo!

The SF Zoo is not that great. They have an Africa Safari part which is good; and a new Grizzy Gulch for the 2 sisters from Montana who's Mom had to be euthanized. The children's zoo is also good, because they have birds of prey, an insect zoo, nature trails, and a family farm. I also enjoyed the old fashioned/restored carousel.

But most of the animals have terribly small, unnatural habitats, such as the polar bears whose size are 1/3 of what they should be; with small pools, small concrete land area, and concrete caves.........polar bears are highly pelagic which means they love ice and cannot live without it........they should at least give them some ice..........also they look just miserable, lying there, with no where to go, nothing to do, no stimulation. Same with the lions, and the hippo. Just too small, unnatural settings.

They also have people working everywhere to take your picture on this and that - then it's pretty expensive to buy the pictures. I am sure the $$ they make for taking the pictures have to go to paying the employees who are taking them. The $$ should go to improving the animals habitats instead.

The Zoo was fun, for the most part. I really hate seeing the poor animals locked up. There was a very sad orangatang there.

Oh, forgot to mention, the penguins had a large pool that surrounded their "island"......but the pool was so green with algae, it had very poor visibility even though it was only about 3 ft. deep!

I had to complete a defensive driving course on line---

They provided a video which was made by AAA and it was obvioulsy filmed in Ohio, which I miss so much....

The small town atmosphere, the rolling green hills, the green grass (ours is brown and hard most of the summers )the tall, tall trees and dense forests. The small family farms and curvy rolling roads to get to them,,,,O and the best, the school busses picking up kids in the fall, with leaves starting to turn...

O, so reminiscent!!!
