For example, I wish we had Fireflies here (aka Lightening bugs!)!!! How FUN!! I also wish we had lightening here! Well, we have it only once or twice a year..... What do you have that are common that you could do without? Earthquakes.

I miss the sounds of the waves crashing into the shore. The tricking of a stream of water through a mountain ravine.IP: Logged |

Living in South Texas I so, so, so much miss the snow at Christmas, the turn of the color of the fall leaves...Juni---I LOVE Mockingbirds!!! Darn smart birds and awesome parents! Neph---one evening, many years ago I went outside to witness a huge cloud of fireflies beneath an ancient oak...they were like tiny lanterns suspended in the heavy air of the humid evening...I will NEVER forget that image--ever!!! Snow! Never been in snow, and where I live a temperature of 25C (77F) is considered winter! The summer high can be 33C (91F), so we don't have much a variation in temperatures which is actually healthy. Living on a ocean side city, I do miss mountains which I dearly love, but for us, mountains are only a 1.5 hour drive away......------------------ Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves --> Carl Gustav Jung IP: Logged |

Thanks everyone, wonderful replies!! Great visuals too! Mockingbirds ~ we have a lot here. They chase the cats. They tease the cats. Does anyone know why they do this? They also chase the crows. IP: Logged |

It has long been said in my neck of the woods that the Mockingbirds chase cats, dogs, humans etc. to protect their young. And I have noticed this myself, when they are nesting they become particularly agressive, that is why I say they are awesome parents!!!IP: Logged |

Hmmm......well all the mockingbirds here chase cats, in the middle of the street, to the backyard, etc. I don't think they are all mothers. I really think that they are intentionally teasing the cats. It's pretty funny to watch. Our poor little Antoine was on top of the apple tree as a mockingbird lured him and tricked him into jumping over the fence from the top of the apple tree! He was practically walking on a tightrope!!! IP: Logged |

Nephthys http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002667.html I miss cedars and smells and breezes in fir/spruce/pine forests, mountains and caves and the ocean. I loved the desert at nite, the moon was so huge and the stars so unbelievably bright all the way to the horizon! So quiet! I miss that too. I love Spanish moss but it is too hot where it grows. I used to love snow but in the winter it can cost a 1/4 of one's income or more each month. And I fall too easily.

The mysterious spanish moss swaying in the humid nights, brilliant Azalea`s lining the streets and the historical antebellum homes.

I did think of something else. Hot summer nights. This used to be common, when I was a youngster. We just don't have hot summer nights anymore. Now it cools off as soon as the sun sets. It's pretty cool during the night. I mention it because it used to be fun to play outside at night when it was hot, and when I was a teenager, go out with friends, driving at night when it was really warm. Come to mention it, we haven't had 1 heatwave this year yet! IP: Logged |

Bluemoon,We took my nephews to the SF Zoo last week. It was *exhausting*. Due to my sciatica, my legs and feet get sore from walking and standing so much ~ we must've walked for about 4 1/2 hours - I was exhausted for about 4 days after - not exagerating!!! Another thing I miss ~ grasshoppers. When I was growing up, we had grasshoppers everywhere you looked - left and right. Now I can say that I pretty much never see any! IP: Logged |
