The greens go in salad.

I used to make a breast cream with Dandelion, Red Clover, Violets and something else. It was an odd one, you made the herbally-infused oil with the fresh flowers. Normally you use dried herbs. This was an exception, like St. John's Wort.

When you dig up the roots, scrub them up really well, chop them up and then toast them in the oven. It will keep that way.

Great for the liver.

Just picked a bunch of them. What a find. There are some weeds that seem like they mimic them. the leaves are rounder. Do you know what these are? Are they poisonous

YES, their leaves are rounded but they grow right next to the others and in the same way. I have to look it up, Ellyn.

Here is the most common type. It says it IS edible, if that's the one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypochaeris_radicata

Wiki has a list of all of them under false dandelion.

This one is not bitter, it is bland.

Oh, yes.

If you toast the roots, they get a bit nutty flavoured, though.

No, you use the whole plant. Leaves in the oven might not be a good idea...

A lot of people take it for their liver; so you find it in Herb Shops or Nutrition Centers, in dry form- most often. In the Supplement section as well; in capsule form.

A lot of time people will take detoxifiers like Burdock Root and Golden Seal without a liver assistant like this one or Milk Thistle; and will be disgruntled by the resultant skin blemishes. The body has to filter the poisons somehow, and dandelions work well.

Dandelions can be a real bear to dig up, they have deep roots. If you are a gardener and it is dandelion day...

Here is where I find my bulk herbs:
