It's the Healthiest Redwood on the place.

Keep in mind it does generate heat, and monitor it.

You know, normally I hate grapefruit.

The only time I ever liked it was fresh, from my Uncle's Citrus Grove.

They sent us a Crate of Oranges, Lemons and Grapefruit.

Man, they were good.

Sweet.

Do you mean it could start a fire, E?

Compost generates heat.

Yup, you have to watch it. Turn it and aerate it.

Depending on what is in it. Some things get warmer than others.

This is a Metamorphic Process.

The way I liked to do it was in rows.

I would do it in the fallow garden space and it was a progressive thing.

I would dig a trench, then fill it with the organics, as I said before, the crucial mix should be maintained.

I would then cover it with soil.

I just kept doing this, starting a new row when needed, and turning it on occasion, and it really cut down on the work of moving it.

Lazy Libras don't like to add extra work.

I thank you, E, every time I put things in the compost heap. Under a tree is so much better than those ugly and expensive bins!

It feels Wonderful to do your part for Mother Nature.

Composting as a Ritual.

I was kind of thinking the same way this morning, when I rinsed out the yogurt container, and put it on the stack.

Recycling as a Religion...

plastic compost bin generates a lot of heat
you need moisture inside so there must be slits for water to get in

our compost bin is plastic and looks like a like a dog house. there is no bottom and there are removable slats at the bottom to open and rake out soil. there are two lids on top that pull off very easily for loading. i'm constantly lifting the entire thing up and moving it so i can refill it with the new stuff on bottom, old stuff on top. it's good for the city because it is contained for critters to stay out and neighbors not to complain. i wish it was bigger. the bigger the better

the secret to composting is to make sure what you add is chopped very fine. it's good to keep an old food processor on hand and shred your garbage into little bits before dumping. that way it decomposes a lot quicker. also, a leaf shredder works great.

pH is important as mentioned above, so you can sprinkle on powdered lime to help keep it balanced

if you are in the country you don't even need a bin. just an area with two or three mounds. it must get sun for it to bake.
