T O P I C R E V I E WRunAroundScreamingThis is my opinion....I feel that chinese astrology can be divided into modes just like western astrology can. Realized this todayThe ox opposite rabbit (fixed)The snake opposite the pig (cardinal)The rooster opposite the goat (mutable)The dragon opposite dog (fixed)The monkey opposite tiger (cardinal)The rat opposite horse (mutable)Mutable personalities are eclectic and eccentric, all over the place, and sometimes they are nervously frantic and go too fast or try to do too much at the same time. They tend towards lack of self-confidence but are magically other-worldly on the inside. They tend to like nebulous and magical things.Rooster, Goat, Rat, HorseFixed personalities are stubborn, can be cold, dogmatic, and sometimes tyrannical, but they reach their goals. They are hardworking but for whatever reason they can be rather flashy and they love drawing attention to themselves. They are quite charming and have less trouble than other signs in showing their personality. They may have a problem with being too competitive and wanting too much.Ox, Rabbit, Dragon, DogCardinal personalities are curious, inventive, resourceful, have big dreams, very independent and know they have to rely on themselves, are not all that stubborn or dogmatic but rather willing to listen instead, are visionary and inspirational, have strong opinions that they stand for. They are known as "the leaders." They are less competitive and more about accomplishing higher goals that benefit everyone. Their appearance and personality makes them rarely disregarded as they are quick to earn respect from others due to their calm, self-assured ways. Unlike what other signs may attempt in order to try to be "leaders," they are not showoffy, flashy, or rude and/or unkind. This makes them earn *lasting* respect from others. However, since they dream of such high goals, they also tend towards procrastination and living in their heads and in their great dreams. They tend towards being more private and quiet, but carry themselves with dignity. For example: Whereas the dragon and tiger may both be trendsetters who command attention, the dragon may eventually be resented by the public for being too stubborn, flashy, and proud. Though the dragon is much more magnetic and is sure to be the bigger heartbreaker, the tiger will, however, carry himself with poise and tact. Snake, Pig, Monkey, TigerThe definitions of the modes may not apply to modes in western astrology. I only thought about them the way they apply to those chinese astrology signs that would have to fall under that category.EDIT: Thinking about it now, I'm not too sure about the last group (the supposed "cardinals") I am not totally sure how these signs are connected. Anyone have any ideas/input as to how they may be connected? If you read chinese astro compatibility between dragon and tiger for example, tiger is supposed to want intellectual companionship and freedom, whereas the dragon wants passion and total involvement. I wanted to say that the tiger at the end of the day would act with more intellectual detachment and intellectual "poise" than the dragon, who might act haughty and emotional. That is not to say that the tiger isn't fiery and fierce a lot of the time as well...I've definitely met at least two fiery tiger people. But even where theyre concerned, I do sense their intellectual detachment. Once you get to know those two fiery tiger people I know, you realize they are very "cool" and detached on the inside. Also, they don't seem to me as arrogant and prideful as the dragon can be---that must be because at the end of the day they are more intellectual and their focus is not as much as them, unlike the dragon who wants to be "the best."------------------Cancer: eternally the mother of the zodiac... ebay compatibility readings | testimonials | Past readings | Ideal compatibility (3rd post) | Q&A | What's a Love stellium? | Most important aspects descriptions | Aspects to avoid | Guide to Chinese Zodiac Appearance | The Order in AstrologyGeminiyoungsterOff topic, but I've heard that Chinese astrlogy has a rising sign like western astrology, but I can't find it? Yes I think snakes are VERY scorpio-like, even in appearance. They often have darker undertones in their hair, sometimes hairy bodies (associated with pluto), shocking eyes, reserved and cautious demeanors, often some hint of darkness in their appearance....example joe jonas. Very scorpionic. And the women as well, with their warily reserved yet feminine demeanors (jackie kennedy, grace kelly, audrey hepburn). However I would never describe a snake as fixed in any way. We are ever-changing, go with the flow and with our whims (and sentiments/sensitive moods), seek to inspire..not necessarily to achieve, and yes we are very much like libra. Love and being liked by others, as well as being seen as fair, affable, and kind are of utmost importance to us. Being lonely or feeling unloved could literally make us physically sick. It is why we spend our whole lives seeking to charm and investing so much in our physical beauty...rejection and lack of love from others is a big blow to our soft hearts. I just realized the ox is opposite the goat, not the rabbit. That makes sense, not only because of year order but because the goat is unrealistic and very "slippery" and impractical as well as wasteful, while the ox the total opposite...rigid, practical, concrete opinions and goals.Yet I couldnt really place the ox and the goat under the same mode. Yet I wouldnt be able to call a rabbit mutable. Id rather assign that to the goat. Rabbits have veeeery strong opinions, and will battle you tooth and nail against them. They also seem to be much less retiring than the chameleon goat. As a triple Rabbit (year, day, hour ; month being Dog), I'll have to disagree. Rabbits are very Pisces-like, or Libran with a huge touch of diplomacy, tact and empathy. Rabbits (well, strongly Rabbit-influenced people ; the year sign isn't the only one that matters) won't talk on and on, and they'll certainly never create a conflict or engage in one just to defend their opinions, however strongly they might believe in them. That's when the Libran side comes in -- they absolutely abhor conflicts. Those cats are much too refined to stoop so low as to engage in such a thing. But, we're still stubborn, and we can definitely get irritated, like anyone else. We're just much too particular about our appearance to allow ourselves to blare it out. We're aloof, passive, and keep a poker face in every situation due to our extreme introversion. (Which, by the way, doesn't necessarily mean we're weak. We just tend to interiorise our emotions.)However, I believe all bunnies still have a secret personality they keep tucked inside, reserved only for their loved ones. If they are ever able to get rid of their apparent rigidity, emotional distance and passiveness, they'd be incredibly gentle, awfully sensitive, unusually caring, and so deeply loving towards their precious beloveds.RunAroundScreaming quote:Originally posted by Belage: Not so much a rising sign, but they have a sign for the year, the month, the week, the day, and the hour. Part of the reason the goat and snake don't do so well together is because they are both too romantic, and impractical, too "yin." The rabbit gets along better with the snake since they can provide a spark that makes things slightly less boring. Don't believe me, read the chinese astro compatibility descriptions online.

Sorry. Didn't mean to derail your thread.
