We may not have as much knowledge as the veterans, but we are still interested in astrology, too!!!

It is ok that is why you are new! Not everybody is born with all the answers, there are things that you have to learn in time.

If you are referring to Alanabelle's post, I think she was mainly talking about how people can't be asked to try and find information by themselves, but come here and expect to be given answers even to the most basic questions. And I agree with her. Go search the net, borrow some books. Don't be lazy and expect all the information you want to hear to be fed to you.

And I think the other constant irritation that came up in that thread were people who send here synastry charts and only accept sugar-coated/positive replies, or the whole tone of their posts and threads is very high school, as someone said. Usually these people aren't serious about astrology/synastry, they are just looking for confirmation to their infatuations, and only concentrate on some positive things they manage to find from the charts.

No one's killing the newbies, but would it hurt to look up an aspect for yourselves first?

tmiller,

I saw your soulmates thread. Someone gave you sound advice about how you listed no degrees and/or orbs, there for couldn't completely rely on the data you'd posted...and told you to look back into it. Yet, instead of doing the individual work (I assume) you just responded asking someone ELSE to take a look for you...

quote:

Those are not soulmate synastry aspects? I've read clearly in books that they are. I gave birthdates if anyone wants to look up the aspects

We only learn when we open our own minds and start leading ourselves to the answers. If you keep asking people to tell you what they know, you're never going to fully grasp the concepts of what astrology is all about!

In defense of some newbies(some ), I think what they may be looking for is an explanation in "layman's" terms.

I know when I've looked up certain aspects in my chart or a synastry chart, I don't always "get" what's being said. It might talk about a certain aspect being good, or a strong influence but I won't be sure how that would translate into the real world.

I have a couple of Linda's books around here(somewhere), but for some reason when I read them it's like reading Greek. I'll get through one paragraph, but how it's supposed to link with the paragraph and chapter before it is lost on me.

So while you might be impatient with people asking seemingly "simple" questions, it might not seem so simple to that person.

Hey tmiller,

Forgive me if I'm telling you anything you already know...

Some astrologers (and astrology books) mislead beginners with very superficial information. For instance, the aspects you mentioned (in the other thread) may very well be "soulmate aspects", but, the closer the aspect is to exact, the more REAL it is. Some astrology books just tell you the aspects by sign (i.e. Leo is square Scorpio, so all planets in Leo are square planets in Scorpio), but this isnt really how it works. The signs are 30 degrees wide, and the widest aspect that can be considered relevant is no more than 10 degrees wide, and important aspects are rarely more than 5 or 6 degrees from exact.

You can get a free natal chart (also synastry and composite charts) on astro.com by entering your birth info... or maybe you will find someone here generous enough to look it up for you. But remember that astro.com highlights some aspects that really are not very close at all. For instance, a "square" is a 90' aspect, and can be considered significant if it is anywhere from 85-95 degrees. This is a 5 degree orb. The closer it is, the more important. But astro.com lists squares that are anywhere from 80-100 degrees, and that is just too wide.

So, while two people may have Sun conjunct Moon in their synastry... if the Sun and Moon are 9 degrees apart, it is not nearly as likely to indicate a soulmate connection as if they were, say, 1 or 2 degrees apart. Other aspects, considered less important, may actually be more significant and indicative of true love, if they are closer to exact. For instance, I'd rather have an exact Mars-Venus trine than a wide Sun/Moon conjunction any day of the week.

Hope that helps,

HSC

In my view, there are no specific aspects for soul mates in synastry, since "soul mates" are those whome we meet life after life, and always in different roles; so that a boyfriend of this life could have been a parent, child, brother etc in a previous life, and the synastry is "shows" in a way the past of the relationship also.
Every relationship has their own past, present and future so has their own aspects in synastry.

Be sure, you will know when you're with a close soul mate of you... its a feeling which cant be compared to anything else, in my view.

Advice you this thread http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/002345.html

A close soul mate is cant be defined by aspects, its someone who makes us feel like being "over the rainbow".

The key is to realize the purpose of the relationship, to be able to accept its destiny, to learn and develop, to help each other....

Astrology can help, but its only a "guideline" like others also said it before. Do not want to get straight answers, its all about free will.

Just my opinion

So while you might be impatient with people asking seemingly "simple" questions, it might not seem so simple to that person.

Don't mistake me for being impatient with people asking "simple questions". I only grow impatient when the SAME people keep asking the SAME questions (or those very similar to what they've already asked), expecting a different answer.

Like if a person asks one time about a conjunction aspect...then turns around a day later and asks the same exact question about another conjunction aspect but with different planets. and then the next day does it again...and again. I mean...come on.

I'm no expert or veteran. I came to LL 2 years ago with a large astrology gap leaking out of my brain that it took a lot of hours, questioning, research, and individual study to finally fill. And there are still a lot of open-ends hanging around! Sometimes, simple isn't always so simple. It can be quite difficult...I KNOW that. But also know that the information you get on here, like said before, isn't always going to be 100% accurate. Chances are- it'll be far from..since it'll be experience based and that's a whole different realm than dealing with purely astrological interpretations.

Like I said before, I love to help. I jump at the opportunity. It gives me a chance to test myself with what I've learned from LL. But I can't ignore the fact that seeing 5 different threads reflecting the same dictionary request getting bumped multiple times a day doesn't ruffle my feathers.

Maybe it's just my Mercury in Scorpio wanting to dig deeper- past the textbook definitions and into REAL experiences and REAL life. I'd like to see more of those...instead of "will we be soulmates" or "is he the one"..

Most of the time, these people aren't even dating these so called "soulmates"

This isn’t really about the noobs, but rather noobs to astrology. We need a sticky to outline certain things, and make it clear for those new to astrology. Give them links and advice - hopefully the string will be started by Randall and mods…and then locked.

If the sticky is there and they still post asking for something trivial, then we crucify them.

Until then, we welcome newbies with open arms, guiding them gently…or ignoring them if not in the mood.
