Hi Ash,

Just stumbled on a site and page (thanks to Cat) that discusses how to scientifically and astrologically build a control group for studies based on finding trends in astrological charts. In this particular case, the study they're doing -- and using to teach others designing studies how to not fall into design traps -- is on alcoholism in a natal chart. Check it out at: http://www.astrodatabank.com/AS/ASAlcoholism1.htm

For the full introduction to astrological studies and some of the "signatures" they've come up with (meaning, patterns in charts indicating trends) go here: http://www.astrodatabank.com/indexAS.htm I bet if you wrote to this guy (who's in the UK) you might discover some UK meetings where you might debate things in person.

cheers,
Lunargirl

Okay, just putting my two cents in here and trying to control the urge to really knock off a few blocks.

First of all, Science is NOT the be all end all. As scientists we are always trying to prove our theories wrong, to test and restest and relearn new concepts, drugs and devices. Any Scientist that states that something is an absolute is completely wrong as entropy works to undo all that is done.

Second of all, IF YOU HAVE NO SCIENTIFIC DATA to prove your point (e.g. NutraSweet is poison killing all our young children...or Chemotherapy must stop because it is bad), then please stop quoting your opinions as facts. Aspartame has gone through most tests than any other sweeteners on the market and has proven NOT to be a killer...sorry to pop your paranoid balloon. Chemotherapy is a necessary evil. It gave my aunt 3 more years of life that I am sure she appreciated as much as we did.

Let's keep the emotional dissertations to a minimum regarding pharmaceuticals if you have no idea how to back up your statements.

Now, SOME scientists believe that they are God. Those scientists would be that way even if they were CPA's. It's an ego thing and it is a sign of insecurity.

Astromers of yesterday looked to astrology for answers and both used complicated theorums / formulas to calculate the position of the planets. By using those calculations and the planetary positions you can also extrapolate the aspects, in degrees that one planet makes to another. It's all geometry Baby!!!!

And by the way, I do have to question Stephen Hawkings scientific capabilties since he is prone to massive errors and sloppy science and for all intense and purposes no one understands a damn thing he says. I don't believe the rubbish that his handlers know what he is saying either.

pidaua, as you did not direct your ranting at anyone in particular i can only assume they are directed at me.

all i can say is: please get off your high horse and try to make sense.

have i stated my opinions as facts?
NO!

did i say that science has all the answers?
NO!

am i a member of the Stephen Hawkings fan club?
NO!

you state that i(who ever you post was directed at) am "paranoid" and "have no idea how to back up statements"... just give me a statement i have made and i'll back it up until im blue in the face! go on.

most people contribute to this thread in an educated and lovely way. if you're in a bad mood feel free to direct it at this thread- i'd love to hear you rant some more

Ash, you are only partly right. I read over statements and made my opinions to those statements as this is a board where we are free to express those opinions.

Why don't you take some time to look over the other posts on this thread and you'll see why I question posed the statements about NutraSweet, Stephen Hawking and how people put down ALL scientists.

You are being awfully defensive for someone that opened this with the intention of having an open mind. I was not attacking you. So once again, reread what I wrote and look at the various posts by other people. You will see that there are points I have made to at least 4 others.

Thank you
