Oh, this is fun question. Beauty products! Hello, my name is tink and I am a product junkie. The more expensive and difficult to procur the better. Drugstore stuff stopped giving me a thrill at 16. Creme de la Mer? $100 an ounce? The Queen of Jordan uses it? I'll take three! I will never forget the first time I walked into a Sephora. Tears in the eyes, trembling hands, crazed look on my face - my husband thought I was having an anxiety attack. I would gladly trade food for a facial. It's really quite sad, isn't it? I know, I know, major insecuriy issues.
Books too. I've got to do something while I wait for the Astara mask to dry. Esoteric, historical, self-help (of the diet type), poetry. Anything really. I'm a "reader" and as the rest of you "readers" know, I'll read the back of a shampoo bottle if that's all that's available. Mostly non-fiction but I'll take a good old-fashioned story now and again. Mr Jefferson - "I can not live without books". I hear ya Tom. I am a Scorpio and I MUST KNOW!

Tons of money spent on the garden. But that's not a yearlong expense. Unless you count gardening books?

I do not have a thrifty, bargain-hunting gene in my entire body. I'm torn between being embarrassed and proud of that.

Venus in Scorpio.

Tink, I'm not too far off from you. I LOVE Sephora (in fact, I have a Sephora gift certificate burning a hole in my wallet). I love beauty products, good food, good times with friends. Things that make me feel comfortable. I have Venus in Capricorn.

Lioneye, I know a Venus in Cancer who is rather frugal (and he's a Leo). His taste in food is VERY limited, and he likes to spend his money on entertainment (movies, music).

TINK -

I've been dying to try Creme de Mer, and finally get to ask someone, do you really see a big difference? Tell me about it.

I read all about the product too, designed by a man who had severe burn scars, wasn't it? And he wanted something to speed up the healing process.

Yeah, I've thought of going to a hypnotherapist before. It's sort of tough for me because I went through crap to such an extent that people don't tend to fully realize the impact it'ss had on my life. My high priest is helping me move on and I've made a great transformation these past few months. It's been scary and frustrating for me because I'm starting my life over again from scratch, but I finally have a grasp on how to do it.

And I got that job! I start Monday. I fee so great. I finally have tools for my future. I want to get back into college but I need that money, and I need structure, routine and experience to fill my life out.

oxychick, you have a Sephora gift certificate and you're not using it? I don't understand. Am I correct in thinking that you are from NY? I will be at the 5th ave location across from St Patrick's next Monday afternoon. Meet me there and we will find you something lovely.

Astro ~ Yes! It is wonderful. And it is actually worth the price. It was a NASA scientist and the formula...sh!..is a secret. What could be more enticing? It's a tad -just a tad- bit heavy. Use at night - not under make-up. Unless your skin is very dry. It is so healing after a chemical peel or retin-a or something harsh like that. In the summer, when my combo skin tends to be on the oily side, I use it less. Unless I have a sunburn because it is naturally quite good for that. The smallest jar goes a looong way. You take out the tiniest little bit, rub it in your palm for minute, then tap it onto your skin. Yes, you must tap. No rubbing or you're thrown out of the club. Bonus points because it doubles as an excellent eye cream. Will not give you millia.(sp?) Those nasty little bumps under the eyes.

I'm so glad you asked. Please join our semi-secret society. It makes me so happy just to talk about it. I am beyond pathetic now.

TINK, the Sephora there closed. But I am happy to meet you and go to any of the other Sephoras.

I also get discounts on La Mer. I used to use it and love it.

Closed?! When?! Why?! That was my favorite one. Well, I'm glad you told me before I went. Taken by surprise, I would have been huddled in the fetal position on the sidewalk. Is the one in Times Square still open? I find that one a bit crowded. There is one in SOHO too, right? I use to take the train to Manhatten once a month or so but I haven't been since last summer. *sigh* I miss it terribly.

Discounts on La Mer? How? Why did you stop using it?

Yeah, it closed sometime last year I think. The one in SOHO is open, as well as th one in Times Sq. There is also another, slightly smaller one on the upper east side (much quieter than the times sq. one) SoHo is probably the largest of the three. I was very disappointed when it closed too!

I got lazy after my last jar ran out. I actually thought this week about buying another. My problem is I want a moisturizer with SPF.

I think we've hijacked this thread.

I tend to buy alot of what I think are 'little things' and then wonder where all my money has gone!!

Music and books are a high priority for me. My music tastes are so diverse but tends to be quite up to date. Books, nutrition, spiritual, travel, light, biographies. Occassional trip to see a film.

As a treat, I go to the ground floor of the department store and blow out on perfume and cosmetics (the more expensive the better).

Never massively enjoyed buying clothes but I try to get a new outfit each season.

Oh, and health food and supplements plus FOOD...no I know we all do but I like to experiment and get more exotic foods.

Yeah, I guess I did. I think we should have a new beauty product forum. Linda was into looking good, too. Pixel could moderate.

My Venus is in Libra. Hmm, what do I blow my money on? Everything it seems; it disappears faster than I seem to accumulate it Mostly I buy music stuff (like guitars and what not), and take my mum out to dinner sometimes hehe.

What's cool is the hypnotherapist does not have to know anything about any extent of what you've been through. It bypasses all that. He does not need to know ANYTHING. He just does what he does with the state of your unconscious mind AS IS. The mind then begins to heal itself immediately.

Tink, you're just a Scorpio bombshell and you should feel good about that! (BTW, have you read "The Bombshell Manual of Style" by Laren Stover ... I think you'd like it ... it's my unrepenting "guilty" pleasure.)

Oh yes, I am also a Venus in Scorpio. I can relate to the desire for beauty products and pamper items (not to mention pretty things and clothes), but I pull the reigns in on those all the time (Mars in Capricorn). My one great expense is books, followed by music. Good healthy food I think would be third on my list ... and I include chocolate in that. I also donate money whenever I can so that sometimes counts as a spending habit ... at least, it does in my hubby's eyes sometimes. (He's Venus in Capricorn ... tends to collectibles and antiques, old vintage books and comic books, and the Aquarian Sun leans to video/computer games and gadgets ... but only if they're practical in some way.)

I'm so unlike my sun sign, or my Venus sign when it comes to clothes. I rarely spend money on clothes for myself. I like my wardrobe that I have. I've got enough clothes and I don't feel the need for new outfits for special occasions or just for the joy of shopping. I'm weird that way, for a girl. I make good friends with my clothes, and find it hard to part with them. Heck, I still wear a pair of jeans that I've had since high-school! They're sooo comfy! I go shopping as a tag along with other people, though. But if I spend money, it's usually in the book store, or on health and beauty products.

Venus in Gemini in 1st house, Sun in Leo in 3rd house.

I seem to spend most of my money on books and expensive Italian leather stationery items.

Shopping is a nightmare - I hate it! If I need to go shopping, it will be with a list, and the list will correlate with the layout of the mall or supermarket, so I can plan the quickest entry & exit strategy.

When I hang out with my girlfriends, they will either leave me at the bookstore, or if I have a book with me, I will be at the coffee shop, having double espresso al fresco, reading and watching the world go by until they are done with their shopping bit and we can get on with the "hanging out" bit.

Venus in Scorpio, 2nd house

I like spending money on clothes/accessories, also things I find useful/long lasting, quality over quantity always. New age books are another, music I enjoy. Also when I go shopping and see something I know a loved-one would appreciate, I'd get it for them.
