This topic has more than likely already been covered somewhere, but since I am new here, I need some filling in...

what exactly is the significance of the Midheaven?

mine is Taurus.

Cancer Sun/Leo Moon/Leo Rising/Sun and Moon in 12th House.

Hi Luna*tic,

Welcome!

The Midheaven, and the 10th house cusp, signifying Saturnian matters (Saturn rules Capricorn, Capricorn rules the 10th), is associated with maturity and the integrated personality. On a superficial level, it is related to one's career and position in the outer world. On a deeper level, it is the culmination and focal point of all one's energies as depicted in the entire chart. Typically, the qualities of the Midheaven are not nearly as strongly expressed as, say, the Ascendant, until the latter part of one's life.

A Taurus Midheaven suggests that, in the latter part of life, you will be far more methodical and patient than you are now, and particularly in your approach to the outer world. You may make a lot of money, but your home life may leave something to be desired; Scorpio, opposite Taurus, sign of intensity and extremes, rules your IC, and the home environment. It might be that you feel uneasy, or even guilty, with your free time, but relaxed when engaged in a state of usefulness.

This quote might apply:

"Peace is the fruit of activity, not rest."
- Egyptian proverb

Ofcourse, I could be way off the mark.

I know the midheaven rules Capricorn and the 10th house. My midheaven is in Capricorn so what does it mean when the midheaven is in the sign it actually rules? Just curious
Thanks

Ok, I'm impatient and searching on my own (not that you were taking a long time or anything; you can see how closely I posted these posts).

Does this sound about right??? :

Those with Aquarius ruling the tenth house are apt to attract public attention. Noteworthy activities that bring you attention are likely to be connected with some impact you make on society, which could include anything from criminal acts to outstanding humanitarian projects you have sponsored. Another implication of Aquarius is that at some point, usually after you have already embarked on certain careers or lifestyles, you are apt to take an unexpected and completely different turn. It may not necessarily be your choice to switch gears in mid-stream but even if you do not initiate such radical changes, circumstances may occur that will force a change in your directions and destinies. The influence of Aquarius is also an implication that your career choices or long range goals are related to some unusual or unorthodox area. Other, more traditional areas that are possible include medicine, research, social organizations, fund raising, international finance, communication or computers. One of the parents, probably the father may be unorthodox in some way, or they may experience a sudden or unexpected separation from this parent.

hey acoustic, that interpretation makes sense to me. I think HSC did a fabulous job of describing the MC. Another great interpretation I read was in this article that I can't find now. What I do remember was that it was an unconventional understanding of it, the whole idea being that the MC is the "consciously" projected persona, while the ascendant is more unconscious. It described it as being the face we wish to project to the world, and in a way work on this our whole lives. I guess HSC touched on this, that we often suceed in projecting this face later in life. You may say we are building up to our MC. I have Cancer on the MC and I think I've always been battling against the whole Aquarian detachment, masculinity, no mothering instinct thing. It's me throwing my hands in the air and screaming "I CAN be nurturing and feminine and intimate and emotional!".. but then that may be the Cancer MC making me a crabby emotional basket-case (which I definitely can be sometimes).. Anyways, nice to meditate on one's MC.
Here's a good bit from http://astrology.about.com/od/basicsofastrology/l/blcastle.htm

The Standard
The "standard" of this castle is similar to a point in a birth chart called the Midheaven. If you're unfamiliar with astrology - then you've probably never even heard of the Midheaven. Generally, the Midheaven is a point on your birth chart that reflects your public "reputation" and/or how you'd like to be known or seen by others.

The Midheaven is the flag you proudly wave from the highest tower of your castle that tells other folks something about who you are while they're still approaching from a great distance. Very often it reflects your chosen career or perhaps, some other avocation or interest to which you ascribe import.

The Midheaven closely resembles the Jungian term, "the persona." The persona is the outer, external mask that we each construct to protect the true "inner core" of our psyche from the everyday, bumps and bruises of the external world. The "danger" (in Jungian thought) of the persona is when we sometimes end up "identifying" with the mask that we've constructed for society's sake. We start believing the protective mask we've constructed is the "real us." We, then, ignore/repress many of our true needs, desires and wants. This refusal to give "life" (or expression) to our basic needs and desires - then results in a whole host of problems.

Lei_Kuei, I have a Virgo midheaven too. It's not too bad, it's the outer persona remember.

The IC is Pisces which reflects our desires and needs, do you know any Pisces or Cancer sun signs? They may be able to lead you better when it comes to your emotions.

Its just when I read about the Virgo MC, its so not me...

Although I have some nice Virgo friends but there is alot about them that just annoys the hell out of me also. I reckon its only natural I feel this way about my MC issues since Its my opposing sign lol

It changes if you believe in and do progressions throughout life as well. So the first description about later in life, not sure I agree or put much stock in that.

In my opinion, a Taurus or Capricorn MC is pretty good. Solid. But it will move throughout life. I started life with mine in Pisces. As it moved to Aries, when it was within 2 degrees of being in Aries finally, I suddenly got very focused on career and ambitious, driven, little patience for anyone else being slow at work too. Now it's about to move into Taurus within 1 year or so. I'm very zen and it's getting more zen. lol It's fantastic because i'm tired. Aries Midheaven is tiring.

So keep progressions in mind. That's all I'm saying because i've lived it and tested this on family members and close friends. The shift at times of progression is life changing for some.
